karen i have quite a few that haven't answered, i always answer my e mail contacts out of courtesy, and allow access to my tree, but i find it frustrating when they don't give me access to theirs. when someone doesn't reply that i know is a definate link, i think your loss i have gone over the 1000 mark. so continue happy hunting lol sandra |

I know what you all mean about not always getting a response - even if only to say "sorry no connection", but don't give up hope. I contacted someone months ago that I was certain was connected with my tree (a VERY unusual christian name in both our trees) and after 2 attempts gave up. Last week however he suddenly contacted me and had been updating his computer. I am now waiting for his reaction to viewing my tree. So you never know!! Chris |

I've also found the same. I've e-mailed ten people who hav'nt bothered to reply. I don't understand why these people join GC if they are not prepared to participate. Jo. |

I'm still learning the ropes on this one, being a relatively new boy on the block. I uploaded my family tree recently, and hadn't realised I also had a mailbox. It was very exciting to go into it, and find that people had contacted ME! I make sure I reply to everyone, and with some of them I then "allow" access to my data. However, I'm not sure what "delete connection" means, if it's just a one-off enquiry from someone? (Don't want to be discourteous by cutting them off, if that's not what you're supposed to do.) Advice, please. Philip |

Hi Philip. I am not terribly experienced and like you I didn't like to delete a connection, but, if you don't, you end up with a list a mile long (most of which you can't remember what they were about)!!. When it has been a casual one off query I don't think anyone would feel slighted by being deleted when it is over. Chris |

Morning Philip It's a good idea to delete your contacts every now and again otherwise you will end up with loads of contacts in there! If the contact has got in touch with you or replied to your email you will have their direct addy in your outlook express anyway. Like you say, it may come accross as being rude, but if your worried about it just send the contact a note to say you're doing it. I think most members realise it's just about good 'housekeeping' though. As for people not replying to emails. When GC first started it was possible to come on here free of charge and enter your tree. You could use the boards free of charge too. If I remember right the only thing you had to pay a subscription for was to contact people through the site. Obviously this has changed over time with silly people coming on here and posting stupid messages. Perhaps some of the people you are trying to contact joined as freebies or are no longer members. Not sure if GC will pass on your email to them in this case. Jeanette |

Hi Jeanette & Chrissie, Thanks for the help. A tad complicated, as I access the website from two different computers, usually this PC for normal daily contact, my laptop if it involves date transfer. My address is my laptop one, so that's where I also pick up any Outlook Express e-mails. Anyway, understand what you mean, so thanks again. Philip |

Hi Thelma If you send her a mail does it go to her contacts or to her outlook express? Jeanette |

It is not generally realised that many e-mails never reach their destinations but are lost somewhere in the ether. It is also touch and go as to whether messages sent via the GR system ever get through. If it is important, send again. Len |
