American square dancing if I remember correctly was a completely different sort of dancing. The Russian dance I thought of was called "Hoppak". This spelling could be wrong. Was so many years ago. Sylvia |

My 2 daughters had country dancing lessons at the local school, where they still hold a Maytime ceremony with maypole dancing and other country dances. I'll ask them the names of the dances.......... Update, - They can remember 'The Flying Scotsman' but not the name of others, so far. They tell me it was a long time ago! |

Sylvia I belonged to a country dance club at primary school. I mainly remember my partners - Christopher who always put his blazer on the grass for me to sit on and was very well co-ordinated (he went off with my supposed friend Susan), or on a bad day, John who had a permanently runny nose and two huge left feet! I remember dosey-doh and an American Square Dance vaguely. |

Did (do) any of you do folk dancing? My friend and I used to give demonstrations at the YMCA in London. I've forgotten a lot of names but "Stripping the Willow" was one. Can anybody add to this? I remember a Russian dance too. Sylvia |
