when i was about ten years old around about 1937 when i could not afford a penny to go swimming at the local baths in Battersea London SW11 i used to swim in the very filthy Thames & one day a Daily Mirror reporter asked me to dive off the Bttersea Bridge for a shilling which was a fortune to me in those days , but the sod was not there after i done it & the next day i was on the front page & the caption said this young lad dives in for a cooler & one of my friends who were with me at this time showed it to my dad & got me a beating for swimming in the thames i once wrote to the Daily Mirror to get my long standing reward plus interest but to no avail & not many years ago i went to the news paper archives to search for this addition but i never had enough time that day & it is a long way to go back to Collingdale but i would love to trace i |

I've not been in a national daily, just the local paper. They were asking for stories from people who had Leap Year weddings and I sent mine in as we married on 29 February 1992. They put a photo of us on the front page and the full story inside! That's my only claim to fame but both my children have been on TV! Lynne |

I made it into the local paper on Easter Monday 1966. That was the day I was born, on my mother's own birthday (she a twin), and it was also a day on which there were snow showers - unheard of then but more common at Easter now. Have tried to keep out of the papers since though I have been quoted as a Government "spokesman" a couple of times. Angela |

I was in the News Chronicle in 1950! See my famous face on the GC photos page! I was also on the front page of our local paper when our milkman had his takings snatched and we organised a collection for him to replace the stolen money. Sue |

Back in about 1968ish, my brother and I were in the local rag at Wpping, we'd gone to some sort of toy fair there. And in 1973, I was in the local rag at Harwich, I'd been a hanky girl, at the local hospital fete. And although I've not seen it, a friend of mine insists that my picture was on the front of the 2002/2003 train timetable!!! Liz |
