I have a copy of what looks like a confirming certificate of birth with the above heading. Was this a copy of the birth registration to excuse the mother from work? I feel sure no maternity benefit of any kind was available at the time.But did they also have to prove why they could not attend work? Mike

Mike I typed "Factory and workshop Act 1901" into Google and the first website I saw seemed to be about surgeons being paid to inspect people at work. Could your person have given birth in the workplace?
