My gran used to say, "standing there like cheese at fourpence!" and I definitely remember the one "Yer shap like one o' Lewis's" although I don't know why they meant useless. Does anyone know the origins? Abigail |

I had a friend from the north who was always saying "you're as useful as one of Lewis's" (not just to me, you understand). When I stayed in Manchester on business I saw Lewis's shop and understood. My Norfolk grandfather used to say "you need that about as much as a frog needs a back pocket". |
