To obtain Legal proof of a divorce in a court from 1858 to present day, write to: The Principal Registry of the family Division Decree Absolute division First Avenue House 42 - 49 High Holborn London WC1V 6NP Older case files can be found in TNA in classJ77 and are indexed in J78; this index can also be seen at the Family Records Centre. The TNA website www(.)pro(.)gov(.)uk/leaflets/rindex(.)asp has 2 useful leaflets on divorce ( Nos 2288 and 2289) and provides you with all you'll need to know.
