Why do so many subscribers not respond when you contact them if they feel there is nothing directly relevant to their own searches in your contact subject? Surely it is only common courtesy to say " that's very interesting by don't think we have any relatives in common" The e-mail system is by no means perfect and it really would help if people acknowledge receipt of contact whether it is of interest to them or not. Otherwise we do not know if contact has been made. Rant over! Andy Day |

Marion, I know that some contacts get through but I suppose my success rate is about one in 10! The rest just ignore anything I say to them. Of course it could be this web site which actually fails to send a contact e-mail but how would you know? Having said that I do usually get confirmation in my own mailbox that an e-mail has been sent. I always thought family research via the Internet was of dubious provenance anyway, there is information on the IGI regarding my family that is miles wide of the mark and they won't correct it! |

I had a look at that Daniel, it does look useful but I wouldn't pay for it, as you say it wouldn't work here! |

Unfortunately a lot of people seem to be wasting £7-50. I have checked with the site owners whether certain people are subscribed etc and have been told yes ... but they didn't reply!!! a waste of their money and my hoping and time! Joy |

Maybe your messages are not getting thru because the senders (you/GC) email address is not recognised as a legitimate contact of the recipient - I use a hotmail address and generally they go direct into my 'junk mail' inbox as they are not in my 'contacts' list - but that said, it clearly states it is a contact from here so I go ahead and read them, no probs! |

Over the last few months I have had one email from this site get through, one invalid address from a contact, and two people who when i reply, it comes back saying it couldnt be delivered in time or there was a delay, so how can you reply when you cant get through, I always reply, they just dont get there!! |

I contacted somebody about a possible connection. They did reply 11 days later saying they had given me access to their tree to have a look. I don't always have time to do everything immediately so as I wasn't feeling too chipper today I thought I'd catch up with these sort of things. When I went to have a look she's removed the access to her tree. It's only 10 days since she gave me the b****y access. I'm a day faster than her for goodness sake. I do realise that some poeple will never reply but we must take into account that others may be on holiday at this time of year. Let's hope that's the case with the 2 poeple I have recently done lookups at the records office for! lol Jeanette |

I've got one at the moment - have e.mailed her twice so far - she gets one more go - it's her loss if she does not answer me cos I can put her in touch with someone who has been researching her family and has loads of info !! Sue. |

Not nice either when you contact someone because he has your great-grandad, and find that he has no connection whatsoever, and then he refuses to delete said great-grandad and other non-connected relatives from his tree. Joy |

Hey, I came on the boards today for the 1st time, just to say what you have said. I hate it when people don't reply.. You would think as we are all doing the same thing, it would be only good manners but sadly it seems a lot of people don't have any. I feel better for that! Val from Sussex |

I have tried to make excuses for those who do not reply, but every time it happens, it is a bit disheartening, you feel excited if you see a name you think may be connected, and send off a message in high hopes. But alas, no reply comes!! Why do people bother to put their details in if they are not interested in making contact?? |

Hi Andrew, I know what you mean I have emailed some whoes relations seem to fit in with mine, but no answer, but me I like to converse with others, so I always answer, at the moment I am in touch with a woman in New Zealand, we are still trying to see if there is a link, but in the mean time we have a good chat. |

For those who wish to remain on the "good list" but think some e-mails may go astray, regulary check Your Contacts. A couple of times I have spotted that someone has contacted me but I never got the e-mail. I also totally agree with the moans about sending information to other people and never a word of thanks let alone any information in return. Janet |

Hi Folks, Well I have just spent the day at the Bucks record office in Aylesbury, I collected probably another hundred names who are indirect relatives, but more importantly traced my own great-grandmother's great-grandfather back to his roots around Monks Risborough I think about 1740. I can't find his sons marriage however as he was a journeyman blacksmith and travelled all round the area south of Aylesbury. All this information I shall share with half a dozen people who are interested in the Gilbert name. Let's see if I get a response! |
