I might be having a wee divvy moment here but......... Why do we pay home insurance so that if something happens to our belongings we can claim and then get new for old??? My washing machine decided to join the scottish weather by flooding yesterday and is now completely knackered!!! I phoned the insurance company, but they will only pay out if the problem is NOT electrical or mechanical! Emmm...hellooo?? is a washing machine not both!!?? I'm kinda wondering what exactly I'm paying the premiums for now! Just thought I'd say.....lol Jill x |

apparently I have to get an engineers report!! That alone will cost me for a call out, then the actual report......then they will tell me they still wont replace it!! seems a whole lot of nonsense to me!! lol |

my thoughts exactly .they don't mind taking money out of our pockets but when it comes to paying back their on your back.also excess charges when you make a claim are very high.my cat is insured with petplan and the excess is £70.00 so if your cat needs vetinary treatment if it's under £70.00 you have got to pay out of your own pocket! |

Hi Jill, So let get this right, they wont pay if its electrical or mechanical and they wont pay if its an act of God, what is its as act of vandelism, maybe you could hit it with a sledge hammer :O)) Think its like the other say keep on at them, and ask them will they cover the cost of this call out charge, in the amount they will re-imeburse you. Good Luck Sheila |

Hi Jill No i dont think you are having a divvy moment myself i think it is a case of the way they want to get out of not paying something on the same lines happened to me. Part of our ceiling fell down in the lounge there it was on the floor when i came home from work so i phoned the insurence company for the house insurence after a lot of have you done this to it and that to it and i said no we have done nothing, it has fallen down. four or five telephone calls later i was told sorry we will not pay out for you to have it done as it was old when you bought the house Mmmm yes well what do we pay house and contents insurence for i wonder we ended up paying for it Margaret |

Our dishwasher was insured with D & G and when it packed up they replaced it with no argument. So don't knock all insurance companies, please. |

brilliant hearing all your comments!! I phoned the main claims line....but I have also left a message on the answer machine of the actual Rep that I usually deal with......waiting oh her getting back to me as she is usually very helpful! Hopefully she will be able to help me out this time (with 3 young kids I cant bear to be without a washng machine!!) Not knocking all insurance companies tho...I'm sure there are some that will pay out - no quibbles....just not mine today!! OR....maybe I just dont know how to deal with them!! lol Jill x |

I'm assuming that the company means that they do not cover "breakdown"; ie a mechanical or elecrical failure. Flood damage, even if it's to the machines electrical system (for example) should be covered. |

Paul, they probably would cover on any flood damage....but as I heard the thing clank and crash I managed to mop it all up as it was happening so I cant claim on that as there really is no water damage.....its irrepairable so I still would have thought new for old. If it was just for a repair I'd just pay to repair it! Guess I'll have to try handwashing!!! lol Jill x |

thats like when i tried to claim for damage to carpet and wiring from hamster escaping, the insurance said we only pay out if its wild, they were not impressed when i said 'the state of my carpet he was pretty wild to me'. they have every excuse under the sun, we had storm damage to a roof once, it was all over the news about gales and rain lashed homes, they said it was wear and tear. |
