Hubby switched the pc on last night, smelt burning plastic, and it went "bang" before he could reach the off switch. The power supply had died spectacularly. Took it in for repair today to be told he was the 7th person this week with the same thing. The engineer said that these things can be random but also that the damage could be caused by the pc being in direct hot sunlight over long periods, or by it being in a badly ventilated area for long periods. Due to lack of space, our pc resides in an understair cupboard that I have fitted out as a mini office so that is probably the cause. We are moving to somewhere bigger soon so the problem will be resolved, but anyone else out there who keeps their pc in a hot place may want to be aware of the possible consequences!!! Fred, What a good idea! I've just added "desk fan" and "small fridge to cool white wine" to the list of items on my wish list for the study in our new house!!!! Angela |
