and re E. mailed another member that I first made contact with asking for information on a person in their tree. They did answer and then I mailed back trying to be as tactful as pos to say that this person may have been my husbands father (now deceased) and that any info would be most welcome as his father split from his mother shortly after hubbys birth and therefore knows nothing af his ancestors. The person I mailed may have been hubbys half sister. It has been very hard to bring myself to re mail but even if they just answer and say "p off" its better than being left in limbo. Please wish me luck Lynn |

Hi Lynn, I wish you luck,I plucked up the courage to actually telephone someone who might have been my half brother, turns out we are second cousins, also telephoned another possibility, and spoke to a lovely lady, who turned out to be my half brothers wife,he had died 15 years ago.You have nothing to lose, but always be prepared for a rebuff, you have to think about the other person,it could come as a shock to them,I was sooo lucky, and I am still in touch with them, and we are arranging a meet in the new year. I do wish you luck, best wishes trish |

Well after all the mixed feelings of if to mail them again my mail was returned so they in the last 4 weeks have maybe changed their mail address. Why do people join this site if not to further family /history. Now I am feeling rather flat and so sorry for hubby as all he wanted was information...nothing else.... Lynn |

Lynn That is so discouraging. The downside of genealogy. I do sympathise. My mother has some cousins who have a lot of info and knowledge about a branch of the family but are extremely unforthcoming and totally uninterested in genealogy. I expect when they die someone will throw all the family papers away, if they haven't done so already. Ggrrr! Still, every setback is countered by a move forwards. That's what you have to tell yourself, anyway. I have not had a lot of luck with contacts on this site, although I have found two people who are connected very distantly - about 5 generations back. BUT the help and encouragement and support I get from the members on the message boards is brilliant and has helped me on numerous occasions. Chin up! Nell |

Thankyou Helen and everyone for your comments and yes will keep my chin up. I must say I have had a great amount of help from members and do my best to answer any mail and try to help along the way where ever I can, as we all have the same goal in mind. After all thats why we joined and to also make friends along the path of genealogy Regards to all Lynn |

It is a shame how some people view this site, we are all trying to do the same thing, and haveing a bit of fun on the way, good or bad we just would like to know, dark family secrets should be a thing of the past, who cares what they have been up to?, I have found a couple of dark secrets and have to go in a different direction, yes it is frustrateing but hey if it was easy we would not have this web page. Good luck.Debbie. |
