See it? What did you think of the way it was produced? Thought it was very odd at the start but it seems to settle further on.

No I didn't see it. I did see the Zeffirelli version with Leonard Whiting & Olivia Hussey many years ago. We did Romeo & Juliet at school and had a trip to see it at the Open Air Theatre in Regents' Park. I thought it was magical! "Juliet" was overacted, but we schoolgirls all had a crush on Mercutio, played by Gary Bond as I recall. nell

Daniel, it's one of my favourite films. I watched it last night despite having seen it at least 6 times. I first saw it when I was studying Romeo and Juliet for my English Higher a few years back. I think Baz Luhrmann was very clever to set it in modern times with the original script, and lot's of clever little touches. I suspect a lot of people went to see this in the cinema that perhaps would never have gone to a theatre to see the play, so that can only be good. Okay, the depth of some of the characters was perhaps a bit lost and I'm not a great fan of Claire Danes but I still wept my eyes out at the end. Christine ps Miriam Margolis was excellent as the nurse.
