Hi everybody, Well went round to Linda's new house yesterday armed with a huge bag of freshly baked filled rolls, cakes and lots of little Easter eggs. Yes, they are working but must know that it is Easter too. It was lovely to see the girls all working. Not a man in sight, until Johan came. The girls with all this up to date machinery, sandpapering the stairs to get off all the old paint etc. Another girl painting the wall in the sitting room a vivid green (??), another wall turquoise and the last wall a sort of cream colour. Linda's boy friend had a cycle race to do in the south of the Netherlands and Janet's partner also had something on. He did, however, come up and hang electric light bulbs for the girls. On Monday Linda's father is helping in the house. It all looks good to me. Today is my day of rest. It is now 12.54 and I am not dressed yet. I have been busy in the kitchen so hope nobody will come unexpected. When I have finished this I will have a shower and get dressed. What will I do then - we'll see, but not housework. Sylvia xxx

Hi everyone ,wow ,easter seems to be bringing everyone out,i feel a bit guilty being one of the last to appear ,but Fred has been very busy. Yesterday went well, and today it's the son and chris coming for the day,but tomorrow i will be across the sons for the day ,hoping for a day off ,and a few more recipies with any luck We actually got to sit in the garden yesterday afternoon in the sun yet,and was joined by our first butterfly of the season, even managed to get a shot before it flew away ,so i must check and see if it came out or wether i was too slow,as it took off as i pressed the button. How often have i heard those words Brenda,it seeems as though ,unless you go to one of the smaller branches to get a car, they are very keen to sell a car ,and there it ends ,this network q is much vaunted on the teli but i have been hearing some horrendous tales about them from people who have been let down badly by vauxhall. it seems that the best after sales service comes from japan ,malasiya, and some in france, whereas the ones we class as british are a load of rubbish well I'm off again have loads to do and all that, see you later peeps, take care ,and continue being nice to each other as usual, our friendly thread .Waves to everyone,Brenda,Mavis,Sylvia,Joodles,And all the others who keep appearing making this thread one of the best around Have a lovely weekend all,but watch the waistline, all this choccie and sweeties are not good for the diet lol.Fred.

GOOD FRIDAY Well everybody has it been a 'Good' Friday for you? Today the weather has been lovely and sunny, albeit for a cold bitterly wind, which I discovered when I went out on the scootmobile today. It is when I scoot round the harbour that the wind hits me with a force, but I do love to see the boats etc. I could go via houses, but that is so dull. I went to the market today, but actually bought nothing on the market but went into the supermarket. Johan came in the car and took some shopping home for me. We were going to drink coffee together, but it was so crowded that we decided against that. I had my hairdresser coming round. We bought our granddaughter a list of things for her first aid box which we are giving her for her new house. We bought things like tweezers, scissors, bandages, plasters, plasters for blisters (have been told Linda often has blisters on her feet because of tight-fitting shoes), antisceptic cream etc. I have heard of all the things Linda 'wants' in the house, but no mention of a first aid kit. So a practical grandma is providing it. Yes, Johan and I are going round tomorrow with fresh filled bread rolls, cakes, coffee etc. This is our bit of help. Anyway, they have enough youngsters doing the painting and wallpaper, and then a young lad who is doing the laminating, so don't want to get in their way, do we? Janet is making the curtains and recovering a settee in the same colour. Maybe I'll find another job yet, but we'll take each day as it comes. Now everybody have a lovely Easter. Sylvia xxx

Hi everyone, Well, it is Good Friday morning here inNZ. A beautiful day with sunshine forecast all over Easter. We wish you all a Happy Easter and be safe on the busy roads. June - your home will be worth all the hard work and you will enjoy when finished I am sure. Fred - Could I have the recipes for Tattie Cake Pie and the flans? Would be appreciated. Brenda - enjoy your 'new' car. The small print is always a wretched problem. Sylvia - Your Grandaughter will have fun working on her own home with friends. Good luck to them. Bet you will be asked to make sandwiches and cakes!! Sylvia - what is your scootmobile? Sounds interesting. My daughters birthday this weekend so will be enjoying the families company. Our friend Blair is still very poorly after his op. Did I tell you he has now had a small stroke? Not a happy man - very down in the dumps. Must go to the shops now and buy some Easter Eggs for one or two people. I leave it till the last minute and they are cheaper. Bye for now. Mavis NZ

Hi everybody, Not much news at the moment. The weather is as miserable as it can be, much of the day rain. Glad I didn't have to go out in it. However, tomorrow I do have to go shopping, so hope all the rain has now fallen. I had my granddaughter in for dinner last night. She told me all about her new house. She and her friends will be painting and wallpaper over the Easter. She is thrilled with being able to leave home now. I suppose it is not the same when your father has remarried. I have asked if I can do anything to help, make sandwiches, cakes etc. for the workers, but am still waiting to hear. Well must go and get dinner now. Have a nice evening Sylvia xxx

Hi everyone, I didn't realise that it was so long since I had posted..The bathroom is nearly finished now, although there is a wall to paper. The central Heating will be installed in about 5 weeks time and there are some cupboards etc. to move around before then. Di, When I have written something, I click on Add Message before I go back to read something. then I want to return to the message, I click on update, and carry on with my message. Its better than losing all what I have written. We haven't had time or the weather to get out into the garden. All we have done so far, is put some primulas in to make a bit of colour. My son in law has plans for the garden, the front path needs widening, it is only about 12 inches wide, also we need a load of top soil, so until he has done this we will have to be content with pots and hanging baskets. I am hoping that the weather is going to be kind over the Easter holiday, maybe we can make a start then. Sorry, I'm wanted on the phone, see you soon. June xx

Hi everybody, Well we went to the Garden Centre today but they didn't have any plants I wanted for my balcony - too cold. I did buy another plant for indoors - some narcissus. I then came back home and went out on my scootmobile for a while. A rather bitty day, not doing too much but not idling either. It is now raining. My help comes back tomorrow, so will be nice to see her. Linda is coming for dinner in the evening so will hear all about her house. See you tomorrow. Sylvia xxx

Hiya peeps, time to get on here again methinks ,so i will put in my two pennorth worth whilst the jacket tatties are cooking. The party at the sons went very well and i have a couple of new recipies for anyone who wants them,a lovely tuna spread put onto french stick cut in thin strips,a new style tattie cake done as a pie with a creamy potato ,leek and cheddar cheese filling that is rather special, and one or two very nice pies and flans that he has changed round a little. We got back from the shopping and i had a couple of crumpets with marmite on for my dinner before finishing off the trellis on one side of the garden ,before starting on the last side. I got three parts of the way along the fence when the weather turned wet and nasty ,so i will have to leave the last two pieces till it clears up. Once that is finished the back garden is ready to pinish plantingand i can start on the ffront. The veg patch is ready for the sweetcorn, kale ,beetroot spring onions potatos [charlotte] onions and garlic, which should keep us in veg most of the year. The front is now laid out and just waiting on the two hundred mixed bulbs we have to go in ,and the seedlings that are in the greenhouse ,eeeee ,it's all go isn't it? At last i have my patio back ,the trailer was picked up two weeks ago and teh large urns are back in their usual places ,so all is hunky dory again. We have thje family coming over for dinner and tea Friday ,so it looks like i am on cooking duty again, turkey crown ,slices of ham ,for the kids, beef for the grown ups and roast pork and crackling for the daughter who dosn't like beef.We will have the other side of the family ditto the following day ,but apart from fresh veg ,i won't have any more cooking to do so i will get the day off, wahey. Liz has said she will do tea,so whats left of the pies and flans should do there as well. Well ,time to check the tatties ,so i will see you all later on. Only two days to go now people for those who are still working ,hope everyone is going to have a fantastic holiday.Fred.

Hi everyone. Just received some good news - my brother (80 years of age) living in Reading, UK now has a computer and has an email address!! His son arranged it all for him. I haven't seen him for 11 years and he has had several strokes so the Computer will be wonderful for him. The bowls we play is indoors - quite different really to out door bowls. Pip and his team won yesterday. The team I was in won the booby prize - we didn't play well at all but we still had fund. Went out with my ladies group (6 of us) for a meal tonight. Went to an Italian rest. Boy, were we spoilt. The food was superb. Our friend, Blair who had the heart bypass op today is not too good. He is on a respirator at the moment. The arteries were too calcified and blocked to do a by pass. I don't know what happens now. Will know more tomorrow. He is only 72 years. Tomorrow is my Computer Group meeting. I look forward to this once a month. P:ick up all sorts of tips etc. and can get problems solved. Must go. Goodnight Mavis NZ

Hi everybody, Nice to see you back again Di, and such a long write up. You put me to shame. I've been extra busy in the house today, doing jobs that really needed doing, such as the oven, taking the Dyson vacuum cleaner to pieces and washing and cleaning it thoroughly, dusting my sitting room and watering the plants as well as washing some woollies. It was a lovely day for washing woollies so I thought now or never. Maybe I'm tempting fate by washing these woollies, but winter has to finish some time! I've just heard that my granddaughter gets the key to her first house on Wednesday - she is eating here in the evening so I will hear all the gritty details. She will be able to do something over the Easter holidays now. Tomorrow I'm off to the Garden Centre to buy some plants for the balcony. As my brother would have said 'Watch out, hear comes the big spender'. I still cannot believe that my brother is not with us any more. He was so full of humour. Now have a nice evening all. Hi all, My second attempt today. Had almost finished about 3 hours ago, clicked back to check a message, and it took ages to get back and when I did my message was gone; lost to cyberspace! Do you think lost messages end up somewhere they shouldn't, like for instance a website in Russia or Timbuctoo! I'm feeling loads better: just have to finish my penicillin, (2 days more)), and its adverse side effect, which mean I have to stay within easy reach of the bathroom, and I'll feel human again. John's feeling the same, plus he has arthritis in one knee so bad he can't stand, he's not a happy bunny! Hope your move goes well John and that you settle in quickly. Like you Sylvia, the only way I shall leave this house is in a horizontal position, maybe to return to be placed on the mantleshelf in an urn, and I've got lots to do before that happens. I've lived in 14 different abodes in the past 50 years and considering the fact that we lived in Richmond BC for 22 years and here in Tsawwassen for nearly 8 years, that means less than 2 years per in the remaining 12 houses. Enough is enough! My grandson Clay moved in to Steve's spare room yesterday. With he and Bernie together, there's lots of laughter upstairs which is nice. She's still a part-timer at the minute. With us from Thursday to Sunday, and Monday to Wednesday with her son in her apartment in White Rock. She's really working hard at Steve's renovations, has almost finished the bathroom, and is now working on the sun-room. Yesterday she baked huge cookies and muffins and brought John and I down one of each; I can see the pounds going on around the middle if she does this too often! Clay is going to be living with us full time now, and will be a big asset as he's going to do all the vacuuming upstairs and cut the grass. Plus he's such a clown and so open he's a pleasure to have around. Hope everything is going well with the decorating June. How about the garden; has the weather been good enough to get outside at all yet? And how about your tornado Brenda; did you have any damage in the area from that? What strange weather we're all having. I've notice quite a few tree removals here lately, after all the windstorms we had this season. I guess people took a look at trees and decided to play it safe and remove any suspect ones, before they crash on to the house! We have 2 huge ones, a ponderosa and a cypress on the corner of our property, but they look pretty securely fixed into the ground, although they did shed a record number of branches this year. How are things in your part of the world Mavis? I guess you're looking forward to winter now. Was your summer normal, or did you have global warming effects, or whatever it is that's causing the changes? Well, I have a few more letters to catch up on so had better get to it. I'm just about to cut out my first jacket, and having sewn up my last sweater, I'm now ready to tackle my chunky one; on size 9mm needles, it shouldn't take long to knit up. I can do that and watch TV at the same time, whereas with my sewing I'm at the other end of the suite so try to get that done during the day. Well, take care all. Love, Di.xxx

Hello again . Dull and cloudy and very windy today. Good for the washing though. Off to indoor bowls in a little while. We really enjoy this - we are all a non competitive crowd - just love to have fun and enjoy each others company. Have great afternoon tea too. Have Mahjong at my place tomorrow - decided on the afternoon tea. Hawiian Pizza Muffins, Microwave Choc. Cake and Hot Cross Buns. With Easter nearly here I thought Hot Cross Buns a must. Our friend Blair is having his triple heart bypass tomorrow - has been waiting in hospital for 3 weeks. Pretty stressed out. Must go now and have a bite to eat before bowls. Goodaye Mavis NZ
