Hi everyone, Well Johan and I were up early as I had to go to the florists for a nice bunch of flowers for our friends. We went to them for coffee and cake and then lunch. They, like us, had a motor caravan and later spent their winters in Spain with us, so we have known each other a long time. She has had a stroke and cannot coordinate her hands into doing things so her husband has to do everything. He does the washing, ironing, shopping and cooking. He says that she had to do everything when he was working so now it is his turn. The weather has turned a little cooler thank goodness. The forecast is good for next week. Not so hot as last week - I'm not asking for that - but 25 degrees will be nice, and most important dry. We have the football final on Sunday France versus Italy, and then I can settle back into a normal life. I have watched so many of the football matches these last weeks that nothing else has been done. Now have a nice evening, see you tomorrow. Sylvia xxx

Hi all, Yes Sylvia, I often sing that song, 'I do like to stroll upon the prom-prom-prom, Where the brass bands play tiddley-om-pom-pom.......'! We went for a picnic on the beach a week ago last Monday, and it was lovely, but we don't have a prom to stroll upon, just a gravel dyke, and then, if the tide's out, miles of sand. We took our lunch, and it was so relaxing we plan to do it more often now John is better. His new pacemaker has given him back his get-up-and-go, and we walked about 1 to 2 miles yesterday to pick up the car, which was having the speedo fixed, and this time last week he couldn't even walk to the workshop without getting winded. Hope you have lovely weather and a great time for your vacation. Hi again Kathleen, hope you're well. It's lovely to see you again. Brenda, sounds to me as though you're working too hard. And when you're not working you are a social butterfly... am I right?Keep well, and take time to smell the roses occasionally. Such sad news about June, and so unexpected, although looking back to when she had chest pains, and the doctor gave her antibiotics, and then she had an EKG, maybe not. Such a lovely person, and such a caring contributor she'll be sorely missed on this website. Hi to Mavis and John in NZ, and other lookers-in. Take care all. Love, Di.xxx

Hi all, Well wasn't up so early today thank goodness. I went to the shops and paid in the supermarket with my credit card so didn;t miss my purse until I had to pay cash for something small. Yes, I had forgotten my purse. Anyway Johan went out on my scootmobile and did the last shopping for me. I have my granddaughter Linda coming for dinner tonight, so always like extra in the house. I have made a fresh fruit salad of strawberries, bananas, apples, oranges. This is something which is nice and there is no added sugar. I will grill pieces of chicken on sticks and have made various salads, 3 different cucumber salads, lettuce salad, potatoe salad, Caribbean salad (bought ready made), tomatoes, French bread and various sauces such as whisky sauce, peanut sauce and garlic sauce. These are things which go down ok in this weather. 'Oh I do like to be beside the seaside, Oh I do like to be beside the sea'. Does anybody remember this one? I am thinking of this as we are going to the seaside on Monday until Friday. Have a nice evening. Sylvia xxx

Hi all, Well I was up at 5.00 am this morning and it looked as if it would rain, but its now 19.00 hours and still not a sign of a drop. I discovered this morning why our bedroom was so warm these last few days. We have a mosquito guard fixed which we leave there, but the window cleaner must have been round and slid the window over it therefore blocking out all air to our bedroom. I have now taken out the mosquito net and cleaned it and replaced it. Football again tonight, France v Portugal. I don't think it is on England. I always look to see who is sending it out and prefer to listen to the English commentary. Last night I had to have the Dutch. I had the German commentary for a while.Last night was Germany v Italy. Yes, so sad about June. Very sudden, a massive heart attack. Apparently she had had pains for a few days but nothing serious until now. I went to the doctor today as I have a big red patch on my right ankle which itches like mad. I have had it for a few weeks and have tried treating it myself but had to give up. The doctor said it is ringworm/fungi and has spread to both feet too. With this heat drives me mad in bed. Have been taking it easy here in the house, and keep leaving jobs until the weather cools down. Have a nice evening all. Sylvia xxx

Hi everyone. Could do with some of your heat here in NZ!!!! It is still cold and frosty at night. 4 deg. expected tonight. The days are still sunny and warm though. Have a new hairdresser - comes to the house. Tomorrow will be the first time - hope she is good!! When we lived in the UK my son used to do my hair - he has been in hairdressing since he left school at 15. We miss his good haircuts. Lisa, the new girl, is from the UK so maybe she will be good too! Our neighbours opposite are off to the UK in two weeks for a month - will be staying with their son and his family. They have a new baby - Judy is so excited about seeing the babe. They are having afternoon tea for 'the neighbours' on Sunday before their trip. Another neighbour left this morning for 2 months in the UK. He will be in Lightwater, Surrey and then Bracknell in Berkshire. He too is excited. June was one of the first people to make contact with me through GU - had she been sick? So sad. Must go now - late again! Love Mavis NZ

Have not been around for a few days and was shocked and saddened to hear that June had died. What a dreadful loss for Gaynor, John and family, my heart goes out to them. Four of our members from GC days gone, Jean Mercer (Bonnie Jean), Gwen Pruce, who died on Christmas Day 2004, Gaynor Fear and now June, all lovely caring people. In the early hours this morning we had some thunder & lightening but not too close, then a heavy shower of rain after which it brightened up for a while but is now raining quite steadily. I had one of those nights when I just could not sleep so was up at just after 5 so will probably try to have a couple of hours sleep this afternoon. It is still quite warm, the rain doesn't seem to be cooling it down much. Have a good day everyone, take care and God bless Love Kathleen

Morning all ,from a lovely warm Newcastle . Up since six ,the garden has been fed and watered, followed by a bit of weeding and then a bowl of porridge for brekkie [loveeeeeerly grub] I have to go back to the doc's this morning seeing as the chest infection is proving stubborn to move ,so it looks like another week on antibi's. I was thinking of trying to find three roses with the name June in the name ,or some other lable that would tie in ,such as Preson ,or lancashire, Brenda, i will have to see what i can come up with.Perhaps ,if you come across aptly named variety you could let me know,i would be happy to recieve anyone elses input too, many heads are better than one or two. Have to go now time to have a shave and get ready to go out,and being such a nice morning i think i will walk down to the doc's and leave the car in the drive. See ya later people ,have a good day.Fred.

just aquick reply as even with the window open it has got stiffleing in here. Slyvia have also sent a cheque for June ,can not do much else. I think that s a lovelly idea about the plant Fred so might pinch itfrom you if thats ok.(the idea i mean) I have been sweltering in work and know that tomorrow it will be even worse at the place I am working at they have terrible trouble with the air conditioning or lack of it. The football is about to start and even thougth we are out the lads are still glued to the set. I will have a nice relaxing bath and do my nails!!! See you all soon, take care Brenda

Hi everybody, Well we too are sweltering here Fred and Brenda. I went out on my scootmobile today and did a little shopping. Not that we are eating very much but bought things for the freezer, ices etc. I also bought two pizzas for dinner today. I wish I had made my own as the bought ones aren't nearly as nice as my homemade ones, but this heat - oh!!! My dear granddaughter has just phoned and is coming here to eat on Thursday, so will have to cook then. I still haven't got over the shock of June's death, so quick, so unexpected. Just put a cheque in the post for flowers, as felt this is the least I can do for such a grand lady. I feel that Genes ought to do something too for her contributions for birthdays etc. See you all tomorrow Sylvia xxx

Morning Brenda, and sylvia ,and all others who are thinking of hunting the shade ,me included. Knowing what it was going to be like ,i was up early yesterday, got the borders watered ,had my brekkie ,and did a little weeding, then at nine started with the lawns, and then did the last remaining hedge on this weeks rota.had my cuppa and did some more weeding and landing up with burned knees hee hee, never mind ,i put on some sun cream ,and they are okay this morning. Like most peeps on here i was taken aback with the death of June ,a lady i spoke to a lot and a good pal, thats the second lynch pin this site has lost ,the other of course being Gaynor Fear,so i will now be looking in the garden centres for a rose for June ,to put alongside the ones for Gaynor, that i put in a while ago. .I know i'm rambling a bit this morning ,but i'm not doing so good with a week that's started so badly,so i am going into the garden to sort myself out ,and maybe start looking for that special plant ,or plants, cause i have room fo one in the back ,and two in the front. See ya all later ,take care all Fred.

Morning peeps,Fred did have a great time at the coast ,and even managed a few photos that i will be putting up later. I came home to find an email from Mary in oz saying that she had sold her house and had exchanged contracts ,which made my day, more so seeing as the pest who was making her life a misery did'nt get a look in . Liz and i found a new [to us] cafe in tiddly bay run by an oz lass who is still getting rave reviews in the good food guide,so i will have to take her in there for dinner next time we are across that way. The grandson knackered the power pack on his new puter whilst connecting it all up ,so i have come on here this morning to say hallo knowing that this evening i will be unable to get on my puter again lol. Just seen mousy again so i have had time to set up the camera on tele mode and managed to get a couple of decent shots of him, quite a brave little chap ,coming out in broad daylight now. We are off to the sons tomorow for a you know what ,and i am drooling already wondering what he has come up with lol,and talking of food,my elephant garlic is doing very well.i reckon that will be ready by october, and there will be enough to keep me going all winter.next years crop will be going in at the same time,in between the flowers where they help to keep the bugs away. Have to go now ,and get on with the garden lots of weeding to do ,see ya later all ,have a good weekend.Fred.
