Hi everyone. It's good to hear from you Dorothy. Brenda you ask how I would spend the money if it were for real - a trip back to the UK would be good but Pip is unable to get travel insurance to cover his heart and cancer problems so it would be a little risky. I would be afraid that he could be taken bad in LA or Singapore or whever - would cost a fortune!! Our Dr. has said no long haul flights unfortunately. So I would probably pay for my sons and their wifes and children to come here for a nice long holiday. I can but dream! Yes Fred I did take the strips off the ink cartridge - am waiting for my Computer man to call in. I do have a spare printer so I am OK for now. Fred could you send a sweetcorn down the line with plenty of butter for me? My mouth waters when I read your write ups. Lovely day here today - sunny and warm. Hope it lasts. Just had an email from friends in Devon and they have had thunderstorms and rain today. But what a wonderful warm summer you have had this year. Tidied up my computer room (3rd bedroom!!) today. Amazing what rubbish you find and amazing the things you find that you had forgotten about. Our strawberries are wonderful - we will look like strawberries by the end of the season!! My Begonias in pots are growing well - now that the cold winds have gone I can hang the baskets up outside. Must go again. Love & regards to everyone Mavis NZ |

Hi everybody, Johan and I went out today for coffee to friends and the sun was so hot that it was like a midsummer's day. We parked outside the house in the sun and when we were ready to go home we had to open the windows as it was so hot. We had coffee with them and a bite to eat for lunch. Lots to talk about, especially over Spain. Tomorrow we have to take our videorecorder away for repair and I will do a little shopping. Thursday I have two appointments in the hospital so that will take up most of the day. Weather permitting, my neighbour Annemie and I are going shopping together. We will take the taxi and my scootmobile. Fred, don't forget the Xmas pudding recipe. Sylvia xxx |

Morning peeps cor,it aint 'arf wet 'ere at the minute, but it's better than a boatload of snow,at the rate the rain was coming down earlier ,if it HAD of been snow, the house would have been covered ,brrrrrr.. Mavis ,you did remember to take the plastic strip off the cartridge before putting it in the printer didn't you?,i did that once last year ,and then told the son that the new printer was useless, was my face red when he told me what the trouble was lol. I am getting used to the idea that my temperary job [hee hee],finishes in a little over a week and i'm looking forward to not having to get up at five thirty any more. Glat you are having a great time Mary you dedserve it,but i was hoping you would find a few more nuggets to give you a bit of pocket money towards your new gaff,[ sigh] you will just have to try harder next time lol. It looks as though i have a couple of corn cobs ready so i will have those for tea one night this week with lashings of butter on,no ,the corn ,not Fred,[wat you lot like] . I have to start looking for the wifes new car lext month, cause it has to be ordered no later than April next year so that the adaptions can be done before delivery. Not that it needs any apart from an auto gearbox ,and a higher seat for short arse, lol.[ the misses ] so that the poor old dear can settle her rear end on the seat and swivel round without having to lower herself on the seat. like she does at the moment. She is a good old stick really and has never complained but i have noticed for a year now that she is having trouble lowering herself slowly and i'm worried that she slips and does herself an injury. It will give us something to do in the cold months anyway,we can go and have a look at a few makes and models each month till we find what we are looking for,and it has to be a diesel too,a lot more economical ,and cleaner too, with a lot lower carbon emissions, and one modification that i had forgotten about,a tow bar for the caravan,i tow that while the son tows the boat when we go on holiday. The sun has just come out but i bet that won't last long, the forcast here isn't very hopeful. I found a nice site on the web yesterday that does streaming t/v,and now have a few sport channels from all over the world,so i can now watch cricket and football from Oz and new zealand, along with some news channels and tv shows from Canada India [for the cricket again, lol, who needs sky sports hee hee..I was watching the last weekends Newcastle,Bolton game last weekend on bro in laws tele' in this way,it was a hoot really, the tv channel was from Japan, and the two presenters were dressed in Newcastle gear lol,it didn't even matter that they were talking japanese either because there were sub titles. well .i have to go for the time being to get the corn picked before returning to the fray. See you all later. Fred.[ semi retired and eight working days to go]. |

Hi everyone. So pleased you have Johann home again. The sooner he has his op the better Sylvia. I have had two colonoscopies and didn't mind the examination but hated the awful business of so much liquid the night before. Gave me really bad stomach pains. But did the job needless to say!!! My printer is misbehaving at the moment - tells me the magenta ink cartridge is empty so buy a new one and the same thing happens - a call to my little computer man tomorrow before I get too frustrated. Played Mahjong today and I won! Unfortunately we only play with counters - if it was real money I would have come home with $15,500 dollars. Had a lot of fun. Tomorrow is housework and ironing day. Boring! My daughter still has the little foster boy - he is beginning to say a few words now and is beginning to explore! Must go - regards and love to you all. Mavis NZ |

Hi all, Very quiet here again, where are you all? Johan came home yesterday so the flat is not so quiet and empty. He will have to return to hospital for his operation over a few weeks. We went to a flea market today as our youngest daughter had a stall there selling some odds and ends from her house. The weather here has been dry but during the most of the day it was cloudy and when it cleared up the sun came out. It gets cold now in the evenings and have now got some of my winter woollies out and will have to see what I need to buy this winter. Have a nice evening everybody. Sylvia xxx |

Hi all, Surprise surprise, Johan phoned me this afternoon to say he was coming home. He was hanging around waiting for the doctor to give him the ok to leave, but the doctor never came. Johan told the nurse if she didn't take the bandage from his arm with the tube he would pull it out himself as he was going home. He started on the plaster and the nurse could see he meant what he said so here he is at home. Luckily I had a warm meal for him this evening. He will have to go back to the hospital in 3-4 weeks time for the op but then we know more or less when he will be home. We have the central heating on as it is quite chilly out now. I do hope you can sleep better soon Brenda. I always go to bed as late as possible so that I sleep through the night. I have never taken a sleeping tablet in my life and don't want to begin them. I heard today that my neighbour on the third floor who had the kidney operation had more trouble as they couldn't get the kidney through with keyhole surgery and ended up operating on her. It was a 4-hour operation and she was only in hospital 4 nights. She apparently insisted on coming home too, but has a lot of pain. Now have a nice evening everybody. Sylvia xxx Fred, if you can put that recipe for Xmas pudding on again I would be very pleased as I don't know what I have done with the one I had. |

Hi everyone. Don't we all get fed up with our aches and pains as we mature!! I am the same as you Brenda - the pain killers make me so sleepy and only seem to work for a little while. I turn over in bed and the pain is back. Poor you Sylvia - do hope they fix Johann up soon. It is such a worry and you are not too well yourself. But you have a caring family by the sound of it. I had Fred's recipe for the quick Chrissie Pud and made it last year. Really tasty and equally as good as the traditional recipes. Will make it again this year. Have been to an 80th birthday do today. Bert (a friend from Wolverhampton) is here in NZ for 6 months staying with his sister. Had a great meal and a beautiful cake. All us oldies there today and next week it will be a Barbie for the youngsters (and us!) with another sister of Berts. Bert comes to NZ every other year for 6 months. He is a widower. He loves our sunshine. Have been watching the Netball Test Match on TV tonight. Australia and N.Z. Very fast and exciting match. The N.Z's won - just. One all now and the final match will be on Monday. Go the Silver Ferns!! Still very windy here but lots of sunshine. More gardening to do tomorrow - getting things under control again now. All for tonight. Love Mavis NZ |

Hallo everybody, Well I am still a 'grass widow' as Johan is still in hospital. They want to make sure he has no new blood in his stools, but because he has had a day of not eating he cannot produce anything to look at. Let's hope he can now go to the toilet and we will know what they are going to do. If he still has blood they will do an operation by taking away a piece of his intestine. It will be keyhole surgery so won't involve a lot of cutting. I am not sure if they will do this operation soon or whether he will come home first and then return to hospital. My daughter from Eindhoven is coming tonight and together with her partner we will all go to the hospital. I hope tomorrow night my youngest daughter will be able to come. Today I went to the shops to buy some gift vouchers for the neighbour on the third floor who has just come home from having a kidney taken away. Usually we would give flowers, but I thought she would get so many bunches of flowers and that it would be better to give her something she can choose herself when she is able to get out. Annemie was busy helping our new porter clearing the leaves away and using a high powered water hose to clean away the green, so I offered to do the shopping. The weather is very cold and feels damp although it is not raining. Now Fred, don't work too hard. Sylvia xxx |

Morning all from a nice mild Newcastle on tyne, where Fred is having a cup of tea before going out to do battle with the gardens. I was told last night that i had the day off to day,and made the mistake of telling boss lady,so i now have a day of garden to do ,plus housework [waaah] but it isn't all bad news ,i have been promessed a chinese tonight[ not a young lady ,sigh] but chicken, done cantonese style done in beanshoots with a fried rice base ,yummy. the boss said i could have a portion of chips too ,but i decided to be a good boy and turned those down.hee hee. Has anyone started the christmas cakes yet?[only 10 weeks to go peeps] ,liz is starting ours next weekend but we are having the christmas puds that we had last year, simple to mix the night before use,and cooked in the microwave and only taking a few minutes,as nice as the traditional ones ,really tasty and no hassle, cheaper than the shop bought ones too,so if any one wants the recepie ,sing out .Okay? i think i will kick off this morning with the lawns before starting clearing the flower beds out,and sweeping May's chalet out ready for the seedlings. I have sent a stinking e,mail to the Ayreshire c.council, and their local enviremental agency about the state of their waterways and local harbour, but i won't hold my breath [as i did in the harbour]lol, but i have also sent an e,mail to friends of the earth so i reckon the council will be getting some grief next week[seves 'em right too,it is not acceptable to be pumping raw sewage into the sea in this day and age. Hope everyone is looking forward to the weekend, take care all,'specialy Sylvia,i hope you get some good news over these tests love,i have my fingers crossed for you as ,i'm sure all your friends on here have See you all later when i get the evening off for good behaviour lol.Fred |
