Fred, I think you are right, I cant see Basil being able to put up a shower screen and make DVD covers, he certainly would make a mess of those, then again I cant see Fred Flintstones doing those jobs successfully either. Maybe Alan Titchmarsh? Any other suggestions anyone? June xx

Di ,i see myself more as a Fred Flintstone ,rough as hell ,but having my heart in the right place,but who am i to argue with the general concensus. The bathroom is now finished until the spring ,so the missus and i are now going to start on the garden,there is a lot to do what with the planning ,and starting to sow seeds in the greenhouse.Liz bought 6 roses today ,and if it's as nice as it is now,in the morning we will be planting them.I could do with a few suggestions as to what to buy for the front garden.We have three squares ,[three foot],and need the name of three shrubs that will thrive in a mostly shady area,which is well drained and slightly acid. Sylvias recipe sounds very nice and i may just give it a go ,Sunday tea is normally fresh ,home made bread rolls ,usually wholemeal,a couple of fairy cakes ,and a bit of trifle or fruit and cream. Got to go now ,thw missus wan'ts some more dvd cover's made,while i was finishing off the painting this afternoon she transferred four more tapes to dvd,before throwing the tapes out.see you all later.Fred.Ptfg.&g.

Saturday again, I always look forward to the large newspaper on Saturday, and especially the crossword puzzle. It is a general knowledge crossword, so I have to read the newspaper properly every day! If I manage to finish a puzzle then I send it in. Only won once a few years ago. Anyway, I find it a challenge. Had some bad news in the post today. A friend of mine's husband died in his sleep - only 55! I've just made a card, sobre one, for her and written a few lines. I cannot face going to the funeral. I get terribly emotional at funerals. I never even went to my father's funeral. I did my mothers but was so overcome that really I shouldn't go to funerals at all. I went to a good friend's funeral with my two daughters and couldn't stop crying. Her husband and children weren't crying at all. That's me! I have made a cake today and did some washing and more tidying up of my hobby room. At last, I can see some improvement. We are having easy dinner today - "uitsmijter" (chucker out). This is two slices of bread topped with ham and a fried egg on top, garnish plate with slices of gherkin and lettuce. Easy, but quite substantial and useful for a Saturday. June, you are the one who always writes the most, how on earth do you do it? Di is another one who writes a lot. So Di doesn't look like Hyacinth. Will close for now, have a nice evening. Hi everyone, Today is lovely and sunny, looking outside, you could be mislead into thinking it is summer, but actually it is chilly. My granddaughter remarked to me yesterday that we haven't had any rain for a while. last year I had to water the hanging baskets because they were so dry, I think I had better check them again. I have just been round to give Samantha, her presents and cards.Now she has gone off into town to spend her birthday money. You wouldn't believe that I started to put a message on here just after 9 a.m. but I got kicked off the computer, I was just starting again around 10.30, when Samantha rang to say she was up! Now I am back and hopefully will finish the message this time. Fred, I hope the shower screen is now completed. Mary, I cant get the photos on either, I though it was a senior moment with me but now you have given me hope. George, Lovely to see you again, I'm glad the college course is going well. Enjoy your trip to Ireland, somewhere I have never been but would love to go. Brenda, Why do they always think that will you go faster if they breathe down your neck, lol Enjoy your family do. Sylvia, I sincerely hope you will be a millionairess but you will still talk to us I hope. Do you remember those sweaters that we used to knit with the oily wool, they were like the ones that fishermen wore. Where they called Guernsey sweaters or something like that, I think they were popular in the late 70's or early 80's. Di, No I dont see you as Hyacinth Bucket either, maybe because I have already seen your photo. My S.I.L. is very much like Hyacinth in looks and ways. I hope you had your camera with you when you were out with Rossi, the one were he was rubbing noses with the toddler would make a lovely picture. Talking of cameras, my friend showed me one the other day that is smaller than my palm, ideal for pushing in your pocket when out walking. Has anyone seen Jude or is she still catching up with the washing. Kathleen, I hope Susan is still making good progress and that you are not tiring yourself too much. Hi all, Well the weather looked quite good today so I ventured to the market. I first went into the supermarket as I had a lot of ends and ends I needed. Linda told me to get some nice pink coloured toilet cleaner, but I couldn't find it, so got the cheapest green one. Our craft stall wasn't there today, so I've saved my money. I doubled my money on the lottery last month, so will be buying a new ticket for next month, who knows I may be a millionairess by the end of the year! Annemie and I always contemplate what we're going to do when we win the big prize. Sh sh, our husbands don't know we buy these tickets. We'll tell them if we win a big prize though. Girls must have some secrets! I received some nice cards by post today which I bought on the internet. They are in the shape of a T-shirt and I can decorate them as birthday, etc. cards. I have now made some money over for the sock wool so am trying to finish off other jobs before I receive the wool and start. So Kathleen you used to knit for the sailors too. My mother also knitted with that thick oily wool. I learnt to knit my own socks around 9 years of age - 4 needles - and I've never forgotten. My mother also used to write letters to the sailors and send Xmas parcels. Oh memories! Hope your daughter has no pain anymore Kathleen. I was going to bake a cake this afternoon, but have put it off until tomorrow. Must keep out of my husband's way during the day as he is doing our tax papers. He is always like a bear with a sore head when he has to do this job. Gosh, it's only once a year, but he hates doing it. Hi everyone, We had a little rain during the night but now we have a lovely blue sky. Today I am going to the doctor's for some tests and cant have anything to eat or drink before and silly me accepted the appointment for 11.15. I think by that time I will have passed out without my coffee! I was allowed to sip water with my tablets. Then this afternoon, I am going with my granddaughter to buy her some jeans for her birthday, which is tomorrow. We were going yesterday but ran out of time. Elisabeth, I hope your mum in law is soon better, its very good of you to put the drops in for her, I find that one of the difficult things to do. I hope the Gypsy didn't tell you she had put a curse on you, one did that to me, and I said to her, you are too late, I've already put one on you and she quickly walked away. lol Sylvia, Alright put off the doctor for now but we will keep nagging you until you go. At least you have plenty of hobbies when the snow is there. You have done very well to sell your flat screen so quickly. Brenda, Our Asda used to do an allday breakfast too, they were very good, cant think why they did away with the cafe, though they are supposed to be expanding upwards but that was put on hold because people around complained of the noise the airconditioning would make. Now the houses have all got double glazing out of them, maybe the expanding can go ahead and we may have a cafe again. Enjoy your family get together. Mary, I think that name suits Fred too, (sorry Fred) I hope Liz doesn't mind being Sybil. Kathleen, I'm pleased that Susan is home, I home the pain soon goes but she has done very well to come home. Just another brief message. Susan was allowed home this evening - well late afternoon as she was home by 4.30. At the moment she is in quite a lot of pain but has medication to take. She is finding the drain a bit of a nuisance as she finds it getting hooked up on things as she moves around. Not feeling as bouyant as last time but pleased to be in her own home and is obeying orders to rest. Christopher spent some time with her this evening and I will go round in the morning to make sure she has everything she needs. We've had a lot of sleety, heavy rain and it turned really cold. I went to the hairdresser this afternoon and some very awkward people boxed me in so I had to sit for about 20 minutes until one of them moved and I managed to get out. Not easy as it is a very narrow but very busy road in the village - the speed of some cars is unbelievable in such a restricted space. So many parked cars block the road on one side. Sylvia, you are clever knitting socks without a pattern. Mind you I used to be able to do that but many years ago now. We used to knit seaboot socks for sailors - part of our war effort. Got very sore fingers knitting with thick, oiled wool. I used to knit socks for my husband and two eldest children, only knit baby clothes, jumpers and cardi's nowadays. Used to make all the childrens clothes when they were young. Makes me wonder how I found the time - seems to take me ages to make one garment these days. Brenda, how is your leg now? Hope it is much better. Elisabeth, that gypsy must have been looking through the wrong side of her crystal ball. I do hope that this year is better for you, you could do with having some good luck. Hi Everyone,it was a real treat to come on and find all your lovelly messages waiting ,it;s like having a meeting all to ourselves. June,our Asda hasn't got a coffe shop and the Asda/Walmart near to us has one,but it is not very good.I actually prefer the cafe in the Morrisons supermarket,they do a lovelly all day breakfast. Nice to see our distant friends Mary and Di dropping in,this old world of ours is really getting small. I have often wondered what people look like and have met June and seen pictures of Kathleen,and spoken to her on the phone,really must find thses photo sites to see some others. Must get to bed now on work at 9am till 5pm tomorrow,and again Saturday.We have a family get-together on saturday night which I am looking forward to,take care ,Brenda

Hi everybody, Woke up to a snowy morning, but by the end of the morning the snow had disappeared. I was going out to the shops, but when I saw the snow changed my mind. My neighbour was going so he fetched milk and butter for me. I always have a good stock of food in freezer and cupboard, but not milk. I'm going to buy some long life milk for emergencies tomorrow when I go out. Now, what on earth did I do today. Oh, yes, I made bread and was going to make a cake, but had no butter. My husband decided to clean out the inside of the television set. My sitting room which was all tidy, suddenly changed into a bombed site. He had taken the back off the television and was vacuuming the pieces. I soon disappeared out of the room. I changed the beds and washed the duvet covers etc.etc. I also folded up some white washing which I did yesterday afternoon. I finished off some more cards I was making. Am in the process of buying some sock wool on the internet. I'm buying a 5 kilo bale of sock wool. That will keep me quiet for a while. I can knit socks without a pattern and they go quickly. when I'm doing cross stitch or making cards I cannot watch television, but knitting socks I can. My husband and son both like knitted socks too. Thanks for all your kind words - healthwise - but will put on hold the doctor as I should have had an X-ray in December and I didn't. I'll make an appointment soon, promise! Don't feel too bad today. See, it's all over! A couple of weeks ago we bought a new computer - DELL - and it had a 17" flat screen. Well, we already had a 17" flat screen, so advertised on internet. Well, today we sold the screen. We have been lucky with selling things on internet. It's so nice to see all the messages on this thread and read what you are all up to, it's like sitting chatting to you. I've a vivid imagination of what you all look like. Morning everyone, Just back from town, yet again, so thought I would see what was happening around the world. Kathleen, I am so pleased that Susan is doing well and will soon be home. I do believe people recover better in their own surroundings and with the extra 'tlc' from the family. I was accosted by a gypsy in the market square this morning, who informed me that I was a very lucky person and I should buy one of her charms to increase my luck. I felt like telling her that my luck wasn't too good, so she was talking rubbish. (It is just one year tomorrow since those evil burglars were in my house when I came home and as you know, the year got even worse.) I declined her offer to sell me a charm! It is very gloomy and drizzling this morning - not the best day to forget my umbrella. I watched the programme about the Holocaust last night and found it very moving. We did visit Bergen Belsen some years ago but Auschwitz must make the vision more vivid with the buildings remaining. Ann, enjoy your trip to the Spa. Hope you are feeling better. Sylvia, get yourself to the doctor to be reassured. Everyone else, have a good day. I may be offline for a while as I am moving in with Mum-in-law before and after her cataract op. Good morning everyone. A bit dull and overcast here, wet and windy earlier on but not quite so cold. The good news is that Susan's op went well, her drain is working as it should and she will be home this afternoon. Yesterday afternoon they said she would probably be kept in for a couple of days but they do have a problem with sickness & diarrhoea - it has in fact closed the ward, however I believe that is now under control. She will be pleased to get home and all being well should recover more quickly than in hospital. Sylvia, I do understand your concerns but PLEASE do listen to us and go to the doctor. He can put your mind at rest and hopefully help relieve your pain. Thank you all for your support, it really does help. Apologies for this being a brief visit but so much has been neglected lately that I have a lot of catching up to do. Just opened a letter telling me I have incurred a £10 'late payment' charge for a bill I overlooked. God bless Love Kathleen

It looks as though we will have similar weather to yesterday, sunny and chilly, I'm worried that we may have some bad weather ahead of us, we are getting off too lightly. Has anyone heard from Kathleen, I hope Susan is alright, I keep thinking of them. Sylvia, I hope you have been to the doctor, you must think positive, we could spend all our lives thinking of the big C, now come on get to the docs! I'm glad you had a nice time at the party its nice catching up with old friends. Brenda, Thats the nice thing about Sainsburys, being able to have a drink and a bite to eat, I often wish Asda had kept their coffee shop. Fred and Mary, I'm pleased you too are telling Sylvia too. Di, It sounds as though Rossi had the time of his life, isn't it nice when we meet up with people that lived in or even near where you used to. Mary, Enjoy you trip, it was nice to have you here. What makes you think cancer has come back Sylvia?,it does in only 15% of cases,you more than likely have arthritis or some such.Go see your doc and put your mind at rest,and don't go worrying us like that.You have to be strong for hubby too so no more of this defeatest talk,besides ,who will take me to task when i overstep the line if you don't. Good afternoon everyone,we have another cold miserable day here,Idid my errands and treated me and John to a cream scone from Sainsburys.It was lovelly with a nice cup of tea.I di dnot have time for lunch ,so that certainly made up for it!!. June,Dad is having his second chemo to day and should be on the way home by now.My sister sent me a text to say he was doing ok but was very bored,he did not sleep in the chair today like he did last week.You must have had some benefit from your three hour nap,and needed it by the sound of things. Hope the news is good about Susan ,Kathleen,take care of yourself.. Please look after yourself Sylvia, painkillers can vcause problems as well. Hi all, So everybody is creeping back, tongue between cheeks, thinking they've not been on the thread for a while. Shame on you, we've kept it going! Enough of that nonsense, you know I don't mean it really. Nice to see Brenda, Jude, and Fred back again. I'm still plodding on June, cannot pluck up courage to go to the doctor yet, but living on pain killers. There are a lot worse than me I think and I'm only wasting the doctors time! In the back of my mind, I think is cancer rearing its ugly head again somewhere in my body. Once you've had cancer you are never convinced that it is really cured. I won't tell my husband this, don't want him worried again! Today we went to another birthday and met up with people we've not seen for many years. Had a nice time. Hi everyone, Its still a bit dull here, I dont think the weather has made up its mind yet, I suppose we will just get what is left over from the rest of the country, lol. Shouldn't grumble though, we didn't get any snow yesterday. I didn't do a lot yesterday, I sat down in the afternoon just for 5 minutes and 3 hours later wakened up and it was dark. So that was a wasted day! It is my granddaughter's birthday on Saturday and she wants me take her for some new jeans so I think I will ask her to come with me to get a new hoover, they were due in today. Then I have a friend coming tonight so I will have to find something to paint. Sylvia, I feel quite guilty, you seem to be having much worse weather than we are. It is the time for soups, quite warming, I think I will make some beef stew and dumplings, yesterday I fancied some and hadn't got any in the freezer. Jude you will have been to the airport by now, it was my turn last Friday when we took my grandson. I hate Goodbyes. I have already had the call for English teabags.
