June Report 14 Apr 2005 10:29

Hi everyone, Its a wet miserable morning, yesterday after the wet start, it turned out to be a nice day, so maybe today will be the same. Last night, I couldn't get to sleep, then this morning I didn't wake up till after 8, so I had to rush around because of taking Sam to work. So I am a bit later with everything this morning, not that it matters really. Sylvia, I didn't plan on going to the Spanish lessons, I just went along with Gaynor, I have only been to Spain once, I didn't like it enough to return. Looking back though, the reason I didn't like it was probably that I was so disgusted how some of the English behave on holiday. Anyway I enjoyed the lesson. Brenda, At first, I felt very self conscious in the class when we had to speak to each other in Spanish but we were all in the same boat, none of us having learnt it before. Beckham as started 'playing up' when I am on the computer, He keeps bringing one toy after another for me to throw, I am off to make some breakfast now, so Take care everyone Love June xx

Good afternoon all, June you must be a mind reader I have been thinking of having Spanish lessons for ages. But couldn't find anywhere with a resonable enougth charge, anyway i have just sent for a CD to try and learn myself.I can get tapes from the library ,but we have not got tape machine upstairs it is in the living roo,and the other two will make fun of me. I got four certs that I sent for on the 7th today, but two are definately not the right ones and one I am not sure about, the other is a definate ,so I am happy at the moment. Ireally did check things out on the others so I could kick myself for wasting £15.00. The cat has now joined me here and is insistant on me rubbing his back,so I will go now, speak to you tomorrow. Hi everybody, So June you are going to Spanish lessons. Good for you. I did it for several years when we used to spend our winters in Spain, but I've forgotten such a lot already. I have a subscription on a Spanish magazine which I can read ok though, but it is when I have to say something back. It's a a lovely language though. I have just been cleaning my windows on the balcony now that my neighbour has cleaned the balcony with a high pressure hose. It all looks lovely now. Will have to get the table and chairs onto the balcony and perhaps next week buy some flowers. Apart from running a couple of washing machines, I'm not going to do much else. Tomorrow we are going to Rotterdam and are going there and back by taxi - really luxury. We get a certain amount of money every year to spend on taxiing. It is cheaper than going in our own car. We are going to visit my brother in law who has just had a hip replacement. We didn't visit him in the hospital as it's a long way to go for a short visit to the hospital, so we are going tomorrow. Well, will finish for now. Sylvia xxx

June Report 13 Apr 2005 07:32

Hi everyone, Its raining this morning but looking out now it looks as though its brightening up. We must have had quite a bit of rain because there are puddles on the road. I'm feeling a bit down today, we found out last evening that the house we had set our mind on, has been sold. I keep telling myself that it wasn't to be, but it just seemed ideal. Yesterday I went to a Spanish lesson, I hadn't planned on going, I was taking Gaynor, so I thought I would see what it was all about. its just 2 hours on a Tuesday for 10 weeks, depending on support, it may continue. It was quite good fun, there were about a dozen of us there. Then last night, I was researching and found myself on a 'roll' there was the name and address of the lady that had submitted all the information and the number of a CD, so today I am going to ring the local LDS church to see if the CD is for sale. I have started looking to see who has submitted the information since Gaynor discovered that her father's cousin, in Oz. had submitted a lot of information and she contacted him and made great headway with her tree. Brenda, I must have been gasping for that coffee on Monday, when I took my tablets yesterday, Tuesday, I discovered I hadn't remembered to take my other tablets. I have only done that once before. Anne,Glos. When my alarm goes off, I dont think anyone around here takes notice either, the only one that takes notice is Beckham but then he barks at every alarm that goes off. He runs up and down the garden barking, quite a racket with both him and the alarm going off. Sylvia, You seemed to have had a successful day even though your usual shop is temporarily closing. I hope you enjoyed your salmon. I hope Kathleen, Elisabeth and Jude are all well and keeping busy. Love June xx

Hi all, Just got back from town. We had lovely weather and I managed to get some bargains, although the shop I usually go to is closing down for alterations so there was not a lot left in bargains when I got there. They will take 2 weeks to get it back to form again so will have to go back again. I also bought some white shoes. I have other colours but threw my white ones away last year as they were rather shabby and I don't like beige with white trousers or a white skirt. I also found another shop with odds and ends for making cards. Couldn't resist the fishmongers and bought some pieces of salmon for dinner tonight, so with potatoes, dill sauce and a green salad I'll soon be finished. So girls take it easy, see you tomorrow. Hi all Just done the sainsbury's run. Not my favourite. we had to buy freezer stuff as we had a new freezer deliveder on Sunday and, pending that, had let the old one run down in stock. Luckily we had a £5 voucher from the local newspaper to spend so that helped. Also treated ourselves to beans and egg on toast (we know how to live in style!!) yesterday another exciting event, a trip to the local dump to get rid of all the garden rubbish accumulated over the past week. Tony has spent a few afternoons out there and I spent some time yesterday getting carried away with the secateurs! Not a very nice day today, very dull, although it isn't too cold out. When we got back from Sainsbury's I opened the front door without engaging my brain (or switching off the alarm). Guess what? I set it off. and you will not be at all surprised to hear that, despite the fact I had to return to the car for the alarm remote control, not a soul looked out of their houses to see why the alarm was going off. and it is LOUD. Gives me great confidence to know how much help there woul be in a real emergency!!! Ann (Honey Rum), you are very welcome to join us on here, it is a lovely friendly thread. please return. Ann Glos

Hi everyone, The sun has decided to have a lie in this morning, but at least it isn't raining. I must apologise, I thought I had added a message yesterday but I cant find it. I seem to have got myself in a tizz or something yesterday, I have just discovered I didn't take my pills either. The trouble is, I have to take a pill on a Monday that I only take once a week, and I have to take it 30/40 minutes before any beverages, food or other medication. I have to take it with a lot of water and not lie down, by the time the time is up, I am abxolutely gasping for my coffee, I had also had an email from someone else that is researching the same name as me and I couldn't wait to start looking at it. Jude, Nice to hear from you again, I lost my message because I lost contact with the internet, I must look to see if there is a wire not connected properly. I wonder if Madoc will ever quieten down, some dogs dont, they remain puppies all their lives, which is rather nice. Kathleen, I'm pleased to hear you have got your washing machine and heating working again. We take these things for granted but do miss them when they dont work. Hi Anne ( Honey Rum) Nice to see you on here. You must come back again. Elisabeth, I hope M i L 's appointment went well, and that the nurse was able to advise on her leg. Sylvia, I hope the weather holds out for your trip into town, it sounds delightful where you live. Brenda, I hope you are ok. I must run now, as I have to tidy up, I have someone coming to look around shortly. Take care everyone. June xx

Hi all, Are we welcoming a new member - Honey Rum? - if you are joining it would be nice if you could add a few lines about yourself. We are such an intimate group now that I feel we are like brothers and sisters and it's nice to know who is joining our group. Nice to see Ann again and of course Jude with her tales of Madoc, but where on earth is Fat Cat? No mention of dear pussy cat. It's a lovely day here today, albeit cold. I've cleaned the windows in my bedroom. These are a nightmare to do as they are sliding windows and I never know where I am when I'm sliding them. There is always a bit I cannot do, but hope the window cleaner comes soon and I can ask him if he will do it for me. Johan and I have planned to go into town tomorrow, 'town' is Almere Stad (town), we live Almere Haven (harbour). It's supposed to be nice weather, so here's hoping. My neighbour has promised to do my balcony on Wednesday with a high pressure hose, so there will be some clearing up for me afterwards. I thought I'd pop on here to make myself sit down for a short while, otherwise I just carry on and then I am knackered. What the computer isn't good for! Have a nice day Sylvia xxx

Elisabeth Report 11 Apr 2005 08:21

Morning All. Nice to see you visiting Anne (HR). You will always be welcome on this happy little thread. Jude. Good to see you popping in again. It’s always a pleasure to read about your lovely Madoc. He must be such good company to you and Vic. Kathleen. What a relief to get the plumbing working again. You must be so relieved to be able to get the washing done and dried. It was certainly a good drying day here. (I am reminded about washing machines – we didn’t have one for some time after we got married, and did everything by hand. It was always a problem with us both working full time. I can’t really remember now how we managed to get it dry in the winter, it must have been dripping everywhere! No such problems for our young ones in their new home, they just expected to get an automatic washer and a dryer.) I was also so pleased to see that Susan was feeling a little better. You know that I will be thinking of her as the treatment continues. June, Sylvia, Ann, Fred and everyone else, I have forgotten the news now I have started typing, but hope you have all had a good weekend. Off to start the day now. Mum-i-l has her diabetic clinic appointment this afternoon, so I will discuss the postponed “leg” hospital visit, with the nurse. We are not due to see the doctor, so expect to have to make another appointment to see him to have a grumble. I do hope we can get something sorted out. Elisabeth

Hi everyone, Just a quick one as Michael is waiting to do some work on the computer. Happily the water problem was quickly solved last night, Chris got the extra parts he needed and this time everything went well. So nice to get the heating back, but of course the weather has now warmed up a bit - typical!! The washing machine has been well used today, getting rid of all those wet (and very dirty) towels. Didn't realise the inside of my airing cupboard was so dirty. We do tend to take things for granted when we've had them for a while. I didn't get a washing machine until I had my 5th child - made life so much easier. At least today I was able to hang all the washing out as it has been bright and sunny all day. Well must go now as Michael is waiting and he has to get on with his work. Will be back tomorrow. Sleep well God bless Love Kathleen

Cooooeeee Hi yeh - hope everyone is well. l do look in most days and sometimes put messages on some threads,l was beginning to lose control again - lol,its so easy to sit here for sooooooo long, but l must'nt. Just come in from the garden - even if l say so myself l have been working like a trojan!!!! digging our awful clay soil. We have quite a few posts in now, so l can fill in the gaps and start moving the plants about - the tall ones can now go against the posts etc - its been great being out there EXCEPT FOR ONE THING!!!!!!!! MAD DOG MADOC - everywhere l move to,no matter how far,he's there - ball in mouth and drops it in the hope that l will throw it - well of course l do, then wish l had'nt! lol lol - he's almost sat on me,he stands just staring at me and he lays across the area l want to dig. l keep telling him to go find dad,but no!!! He's due to go out for a walk in a mo so l will then pop out and do some more digging. He's his usual fun self, loves all the other dogs, unfortunately a Doberman did'nt like him the other day and bowled him over onto his back - he was'nt hurt. Our godson has been with us for 10days and loves Madoc,he took the lead when ever we went out,but l 'd always take it back if l saw another dog - just incase!. Vic has stopped taking him to the local shops now - he makes sooooo much noise and jumps up at Vic,the other day he ripped his coat, trousers and undies, then he grabs his wrist and nips it, what a wussy!!! Kathleen - l hope your Susan is ok and the water prob you have is soon sorted. Just re-read some of the thread and it says your Susan is feeling abit better, so pleased:o)) Elizabeth - hope your m.i.l is ok and that her leg is aswell! Sylvia - as usual your busy baking and making. June - what do you do to lose your messages - do you press the wrong key?? Brenda - hope your ok and not working too hard at the library? Ann - hope enjoyed the Bristol meet, l did think about going way back with my sister, but decided Naaaaa. We went to Monmouth Boys School new theatre last night to watch HMS Pinafore, it was really good. Some fantastic voices - the only thing that l found a shame was that some of the actors were too old for their parts eg; the ships captain was younger that his daughter - presumeably the younger members were'nt good enough to play lead parts - really pleased we went though. A friend could'nt go so she said find someone to go instead - my neighbour was rite chuffed with a free ticket!!!!!! Right thats it - back to the garden, well l must put spuds on first - we have roast brisket which is almost cooked. Take care all you peeps:o) jude sarf wales xx

Hi all, So nobody about, you are all having your Sunday day of rest are you? Or is it warmer in bed? Well, silly old me woke up, looked at the clock, and thought it was 8.15, but it was in fact 7.15. So I've done so much now that I'll have plenty of the day over for myself. Looked out of the window and noticed the wind has dropped and it is dry. Lots of puddles on our parking area, so must have had a lot of rain in the night. Johan and I are trying to plan our week, but we cannot because we haven't heard from one or the other. For instance, my neighbour is going to clean my balcony for me with a high pressure hose and I have to be here when he comes. I want to go to Amersfoort for different things, but cannot until I know when my balcony is being cleaned. Johan and I want to look for a new television, maybe not exactly buy one, but ours is getting old and now and again we get a few lines on the screen, so we are prepared! Now everybody, have a nice day, Sylvia xxx

June Report 10 Apr 2005 08:06

Hi everyone. Once again its happened, I have nearly finished my message and lost the lot, Grrrh!! Its lovely and sunny although damp underfoot, we did have rain last night. Kathleen, I do hope you get your water situation sorted soon. It makes you wonder how our rellies coped with large families, no washing machine, central heating etc. I think the big black leaded ranges they had gave off a lot of heat, they were often kept going day and night, heated the water, and heated the oven etc. The heat seemed to penetrate the walls and last longer. I'm pleased that Susan is feeling a bit better now, how many sessions as she still to go? Elisabeth, Does anyone ever attend the hospital on the original appoinment, it must cost hundreds of pounds keep rearranging them. I wouldn't mess around either if Mum in law's leg starts up again. I would be straight off to casualty. I watched the wedding too, I thought Camilla looked lovely, that was the most I have seen of her and I was impressed. I must admit, I was/am an admirer of Diana, and it has taken me sometime to accept Camilla, but as long as they are happy, that is the main thing. Sylvia, I was dissappointed with the Russian singer too, I bet there is great speculation by the media on who William could have been blowing the kiss to. I wouldn't put it past him, to do it just to wind the press up, those two boys are full of fun. I thought Harry had great trouble in keeping still for so long. I am going to get some breakfast now and post this thread before it vanishes again. Love June xx

syljo Report 9 Apr 2005 16:02

Hi everybody, I have just finished watching the royal wedding. I wasn't going to but thought I'd have a peep and got interested in all the pomp and circumstance. I was a bit disappointed in the Russian singer, but maybe I can still hear Kiri te Kanawa at Charles and Diana's wedding! I thought Camilla looked magnificent, very well chosen clothes and colours for her at her age. The only thing I found is that she could have used a new pair of national health dentures! William and Harry seemed to be enjoying themselves. I wonder whether it was William's girl friend he was blowing kisses to in Windsor castle. I don't think he appreciated having to sit next to Fergie's daughters. Poor Kathleen, I do hope you get everything sorted out soon. Fancy having a lot of wet washing and not being able to use the washing machine. Oh, how we rely on our washing machines these days don't we. And........ to think I only had my first washing machine when my third child was born! Glad to hear that Jude hasn't left us. So we'll be hearing stories again of Madoc when she has time. Have a nice day further. Our weather is still extremely windy, wet and freezing cold. Sylvia xxx

Elisabeth Report 9 Apr 2005 11:43

Morning all - I've got my best hat on to watch the wedding in a few minutes. (I am making notes for our wedding of the year in the autumn!!) Kathleen you have my sympathy with the water situation. These small jobs seem to turn into mammoth operations - been there, done that and got the t-shirt. (Remember my saga of the blowing up boiler just before Christmas, with no heating for days. At least we had cold on tap.) A short update on Mum in law and her leg. She phoned a little while ago to let me know she has had two letters from the hospital today. One puts her regular eye appointment with the specialist back a month, the other puts the leg problem back a month too!!!! I think I will be on to the appointments clerk on Monday - unless it all erupts again over the weekend, in which case we are off to casualty. Off to wave my Union Flag - haven't put the bunting out though. (I still have the bunting from his previous wedding, so I don't think it would be appropriate.) Have a happy weekend. Elisabeth

Kathleen Report 9 Apr 2005 10:42

Good morning all, The sun is shining, it is very windy, cold but blue skies and no clouds. What a change from the last couple of days when it has been cold, wet, windy and very dull. My leg is still very sore and doesn't look very pretty but it is healing. Susan is now feeling a bit better and went out to visit with friends yesterday. Indira enjoyed her day out with my sister. They met up with my neice and her partner who has offered Indira a place for her work experience which will be roughly this time next year. He thinks she is great and I think the feeling is mutual. He has told her he will give her a job anytime as she has all the qualities he looks for in an employee. At the moment we have no water in the bathroom, no central heating and only cold water in the kitchen. Chris decided to try to replace two stuck gate valves which turn off the water to the hot tank and the radiators. He managed to free one so that didn't need to be replace but had big problems with the other one. Had to drain the tanks and then ran into more problems with leaks and a compression valve which wouldn't turn. Too complicated for me but I now have a bath full of wet towels (used to soak up the leaking water) not able to use the washing machine and no heating except the gas fire in the living room. Having to keep buckets of water in the bathroom for the toilet, which is a bit inhibiting when you know you can't use the flush!!! I'm pleased, for once, that you are all at a distance because I can't have a shower. Today it has to be a cat's lick and a promise in a freezing cold bathroom - and I don't like the cold!! Elisabeth, I do hope your m-i-l gets her hospital appointment soon. It seems to be a favourite excuse after a long wait that 'we sent you an appointment which you didn't keep'. I don't believe that anymore, I think they use that as an excuse when you have been by-passed for some reason. Usually because they have missed your name on the list. I trust it will all get dealt with soon and all is well. Sylvia, if you got blown across the channel we would all welcome you. In a high wind you could well land near me at Heathrow!!! Seriously scary though and I don't like very windy weather. As usual you seem to be keeping very busy, some of the cards you have described sound really original and I'm sure are well received. Nothing quite like that personal touch. Brenda, I hope your Dad is making progress and doesn't suffer too badly from his treatment. Those clinics are usually such cheery places though, it amazes me how all the patients are so positive and keep a wonderful sense of humour. It is so helpful to the new patients. Ann, hope you enjoy your meeting. I have been to one or two and enjoyed them very much. It is so nice to put faces to names and actually speak with people. Must go now, have some things to do before I take Susan shopping this afternoon. Hope you all have a lovely day, sorry if I have missed anyone. God bless Love Kathleen

Hi everyone, Well we have a damp start but the sun is shining through already, I thought the forecast was for frost, so I put Tortie in her hut in the garage, she will wonder what is going on. Yesterday about lunchtime, we had a snow shower and I rushed out and out her in her hut, by the time I got back inside, the snow had finished, so she came back out again. Elisabeth, what a good idea to scan the names in the Bible, I have an old Bible too but there is only my grandmother's name in it. Still I could scan it, at least I would have her signature then, because I haven't got any photographs of her yet I have of my grandfather. I think I would take M I L along to the doctor to look at her leg, he may drop a line to the plastic surgeon to hurry the appointment along. Ann, Glos, Enjoy the Bristol meet, its nice meeting up with faces you know and also meeting new ones. Thanks for the info that Jude is still with us and looks in sometimes, I look forward to tales of Madoc and Fatcat. Sylvia, I'm tired of the cold weather too, the wind here has been very icy. It would be nice to trip off somwhere warm, the last time I did that, I got such a bad chest when I got back, I have never gone to warm places again during our winter. Brenda, Actually, it was someone that contacted me, and I always reply to everyone, sometimes just to say sorry there isn't a connection, hopefully he will come back to me again with more information. Off to let Tortie out of the garage now. Love June xx
