Elisabeth Report 7 Mar 2005 12:15

Morning all, It is a cool morning with just a hint of drizzle around in the air. I have risked just a pair of jeans on the line, the rest can go in the tumbler – I’m not running in and out. It is wonderful to see a thread from Theresa so say her little one has arrived – it seems an eternity since we were all on the Chat board. Things must have gone well as she was soon back online to give the result of her endeavours. (I also had word this morning that a friend’s daughter gave birth to a little girl just moments into today. What a lovely day for good news.) I am having to wash up by hand today! The dishwasher gave up the ghost yesterday afternoon. I didn’t take much notice after I put it on with the lunch dishes and then realised at teatime it was still rumbling away. Switched it off and then nothing. It was full of dirty soapy water and still dirty pots. Oh well, I have some Fairy!! Husband is trawling the net for a good deal on a new one today. Hope everyone had a happy Mothering Sunday, and that all the coughs and colds are improving. We should all have stowed away in Ann and Brenda’s suitcases. Elisabeth xx

Well,i see you lot have been having a great time whilst i have been out in the cold ,so to speak.Anyway Sean is away back to camp and i have the puter back ,so i can now catch up with the gossip and news..I have just come in from the garden where i have added a bit of exercise to the physio the hospital gives me on Thursday, the gardening is going to help with keeping my joints free [i hope] as the old arthritis is really setting in now ,but there is no sign of angina ,so it,s back to heart disease just ,and i am well happy with that ,and can easily put up with being breathless after a couple of minutes. I have missed Madoc's antics these last couple of weeks and iv'e been having a good chuckle this morning Jude,as someone has already said, keep the stories coming ,it certainly makes my day. It looks like the missus wants her shopping list filled ,so i am away to get the car out,so i will have to wait till later to get back on the boards .Have fun all cyl.Fred.ptfg.&a&g&s.

Hi all, Yes, June I did at last get to the doctors today. I thought having such a cold for 4 weeks was too long and my throat hurts again from coughing and then my ears started I have now an antibiotic cure for a week and some drops for my ears. She said they looked rather red inside - don't I know it! Enough about me, now for something pleasant Johan and I went out today - battery had been on charge all night - and we bought a new printer/scanner/copier. Now have to wait for Johan to install it. He's more technical than me - can't boil an egg, but who cares about that! I cannot wait to take some pictures of my cards and also put some more pictures on my tree and also on website. The snow is thawing fast now and the snow has turned to rain. On Wednesday Johan and I are going to Eindhoven to our daughter Janet until Friday. We were going into Antwerpen on Thursday, but have decided against that now. We will visit Johan's sister who lives down south - she has had 2 strokes and cannot get around much more. Also an old family friend needs a visit as he has lung and bone cancer. It was his family who took in some of Johan's family during the war. Johan lived in Rotterdam - need I say more! Well must get on with some dinner now. Sylvia xxx

Hello everyone:o)))) Licks form Madoc:o)))))) His lord ship has just gone out with Vic. l've just got back from the dentist, having had my third and last filling for 6 months - grrrr - my mouth and tongue are still coming round. Vic picked me up in the car and low and behold who was sitting in the back seat, wagging his tail and not knowing what to do with himself cause he'd just spotted me!!!:o)) lol. As l got in the front he lunged himself onto my lap, l could'nt even get the seat belt done up! If you could have seen his face, it was a picture!!! so cocky to be sitting on my lap in the bloomin front. It took ages to get him in the back, he really did'nt want to go and eventually fell off my lap onto my feet, which gave me the chance to turn him round and demand he got in the back!!!!! oooooo kids!! lol Most meal times we eat in the lounge on a tray and has to sit in his bed, well lately he's been doing a panic thing, like 'oh gawd l don't know what you mean, don't tell me off' - he knows perzackerly what we mean! lol when he finally gets in his bed he takes his frustration out on the blanket - he chews it, digs at it,chews some more, lifts it up, chucks it down - it really is so funny to watch. Then he settles down looking at us with those soulful brown eyes - we carry on eating and when we look up again the little toad has crawled out of the bed, just his back legs still in it until eventually he's right there at our feet!!!! oooooo kids!! lol lol Pretty cold still - no snow,no rain, no gardening. Oh yeh, we had a female chaffinch in the garden Saturday with a damaged foot,it looked all clogged up with seed and mud or something, but fortunately could still fly - although if it had'nt been able to fly l might have been able to catch it:o( but not seen it since:o( June - say hi to Gaynor:o) And 500 photo's from Peter!!!! bless im, he does love his photography. l have got Shutterfly on my puter, another photo site, which is verygood, have that on for awhile, so will send Peter some via them (when l get my act together!). How long has your son been away?? Elizabeth - is'nt that wonderful about Theresa's baby Jamie, bless. Its about time things went right for her. Kathleen - hope all is well. l tried to get on Sylvia's site but could'nt find the photo's! Sylvia - do l have to click on the tree?? Hey yes thats great news you getting a scanner etc. When your all sorted would love to see your cards, they sound so nice. With all the things you do,as June says, you are very talented:o) Ok l'm off now for a cuppa, my mouth is very tingly and l can feel my tongue now:o)) Hope everyone is well. Oh Fred - oh gawd how can l forget you. Keep up your exercises, you'll put me to shame, l do nought except walk the dog lunch time, oh and l walked into town earlier. Good luck with your veggies etc. l am so pleased my doggies stories are enjoyed by you all. l really would'nt know how to go about writing a book, also my pounctuation is very bad. love Jude sarf wales xx

Hi again, Just a few lines to say yes Jude you have to click on the tree to get into my photos etc. Lovely stories about Madoc. When I lived at home we had a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. She was beautiful too. A brindle colour. I've been chatting with my granddaughter tonight. Never thought I'd be into chatting, but it has its uses. Linda was doing her English homework and she would write her sentences in Dutch and I'd translate them for her in English. Is this what we call cheating? What grandmothers are good for! Sylvia xxx

June Report 8 Mar 2005 08:18

Hi everyone, Dare I say it, its a lovely day again here. Yesterday I was going to buy some more primulas but didn't get there so will try again today. At the weekend, my son in law put some new bulbs in the outside lights. The lantern over the back door is light sensitive, so only comes on when it is dark, the light on the garage is a warning light and is movement sensitive. So guess Beckham's new game, when he goes out of the back door, the garage light comes on and the lantern goes off then as he moves away the garage light goes off and the lantern comes on, so back he comes again and sets the lights off again. I wouldn't have thought dogs noticed these things but he certainly does! I'm getting frustrated, I get on Sylia's site but when I click on the tree, I get 'Page cannot be found' I hate that message, GGrrhh. Elisabeth, These modern fangled things are alright while they are working, lol How often did I hear my mother say that. Welcome back Fred, I hope you didn't spend up when you did your shopping. Sylvia, I'm pleased you have now got some antibiotics, you will soon notice the difference. Your scanner/copier etc sounds very posh, I bought mine just before they came out, should have waited. It sounds as though you will be doing a bit of reminiscing this next few days, enjoy yourself. Jude, I too have a fold up table that I sit at while eating my dinner, Beckham tries to get my attention by gently licking my ankles, it doesn't do him any good though he still has to have his own dinner. Bless Madoc for getting so excited, he really loves you. It's my grandson that is away, he went January 21st and is coming back for a couple of days to collect some more things but more to see his mum, he does miss us all so much. I hope those girls are enjoying their holidays and hi to anyone else. Love June xx

Elisabeth Report 8 Mar 2005 16:36

Afternoon all, Quick visit before I start on the evening meal. I have had the silliest of days. I stripped off all the bedding, including the mattress cover as it was a nice windy day and intended to give the bedroom a good clean. I did my usual trip to Mum, and took her to the hairdressers. The trouble was...... I got so engrossed in the bedroom cleaning, sorting out a pile of paperback books for the charity shop which were piled up under the bed and all those silly little jobs. At 12.45 the hairdresser rang to say she had been ready for ages. I should have been back to collect her at 12.15 and completely forgot!!! I am so embarrassed. You hear of people being dumped at A & E, but not often at the hairdressers!! All the bedding is in from the line, folded on the clothes horse ready for ironing this evening. (I always iron in the evenings so I can watch tv at the same time.) Husband just rang to say he is leaving work early and going to the electrical discount shop to negotiate a price for a nice new dishwasher. (Their list price is £15 higher than Comet.) Have a good evening. Elisabeth x

Hi it's me, I decided because it was a nice sunny day that I ought to venture out on my scootmobilel The snow has almost disappeared, leaving the remnants of snowmen, snowballs and some bright spark even built an igloo, and this has remained quite intact. I did have a little shower of rain along the way, but it was so nice to be out of the house again. Johan was busy connecting up the new printer/scanner/copier and the end product looks quite good. Realised now that should have had fax as well as our fax machine is past it and not worth being repaired. Will probably not see you for a couple of days unless I use Janet's computer. We'll see. Keep the thread alive Sylvia xxx

Hi Sylvia, can i ask what model of multifunction you bought ,as if its an epson or packard it will have a fax integeral ,and you will only have to put the programme in to activate it,i have an epson cx6600,with fax facility but my old cx 32000 had the same.I think you will find that with the right programme most multi role printers will support e/fax. You seem to be getting out and about despite the weather, and in any case ,spring is just around the corner. It is great to have my puter back, here was i ready to do a few photies and a load of dvd covers ,and guess what,my dear grandson has used all my ink, grrrrrr,it's not as though he is hard up ,he earns a lot more than me,and it's not as though the cartridges cost me a fortune ,the whole set of four only cost me 15 quid ,but i had'nt even used them lol. I may as well go swanning round the site now as i can't do any more work tonight .Fred.ptfg.&a&g&s.

Kathleen Report 9 Mar 2005 02:18

Hello all, The last two days have been very dull and overcast, not really much rain and today the wind had died down so felt a little warmer. You have all been very busy, Sylvia pleased that you have now got the antibiotics, hopefully your cold/cough will clear up and you will feel better. Must have felt good to get out for a while and now the snow is melting much easier to get around. Fred, how frustrating to find all your ink cartridges empty. Disappointing as well if you had planned to do some work. I imagine your grandson didn't realise that he had used that much. How are those seeds coming along? June, Beckham sounds like a very bright dog!! Or he has a great sense of humour, keeping you guessing by making the lights come on. It always amuses me to read that cats and dogs can't 'see' certain things or don't understand words etc. They obviously do, otherwise why did we have to spell W A L K - say the word and Kyzer used to get his lead and stand with his tail wagging - mind you he quickly learnt how to spell, at least that word!! Jude, Madoc also uses the same trick Kyzer did, sliding out of his basket, very slowly and obviously hoping that you wouldn't notice. Also when he had been naughty he used to cover his eyes with his paws - just like a baby does thinking you can't see them. There is a poor little cat that has gone missing from Heathrow. Called Luna, she was being transferred from one container to another and escaped. On her way to her owner in South Africa she has had several serious mishaps and is on medication so we are all being asked to keep a look out for her. As she is very shy they ask for her to be tempted with a little food, not too much because of her medical problems, they will then try to catch her if the food is put out regularly. Preferably tempt her into the house when they will come straight away to collect her. Poor little thing in this recent cold weather - her owner is very upset. Don't know if she has been found yet. Elisabeth, how is your new car? I bought a lottery ticket today for tomorrow's draw - having just driven along our main road with those awful humps - you know those little cushion type ones that don't stop the large vans or any wide based vehicle from speeding. The suspension on my car is dreadful and it jars my neck however slowly I go over them. Fancy you forgetting to pick your mum-in-law up from the hairdresser :-) There is another thread about babies in the 50's and several people mentioned about getting halfway home and realising they had left their babies in their prams outside the shop. At least she was warm and had someone to chat to. It is so easy to get caught up in what you are doing. I imagine we have all been guilty of doing something like that, you think 'I've just got time' to do some little job that you think will only take 20 minutes or so - and then realise that you have missed an appointment or not picked up a child from school (I did that once with Indira). I hope Brenda and Ann are enjoying their holidays. Our little circle seems to be getting smaller. With Di no longer writing on here and some of the other people who appeared early on in the thread not staying around. To start with I also got Page cannot be displayed on Sylvia's site but just back spaced and tried again and it came up. Susan is doing ok, she has ups and downs. Yesterday she got very cross with me because she didn't listen properly to what I was saying, All forgotten today and I took her shopping this afternoon. Well I am off to bed, hope you all have a good night and sleep well. God bless Love Kathleen

June Report 9 Mar 2005 07:28

Hi everyone, I'm up early this morning, I awakened early and just couldn't lie any longer. It s a lovely day again, t didn't get the primulas yesterday maybe today. By the time I had done all my ferrying around it was 1 o'clock. I felt a right divvy yesterday, you remember I had been having trouble with my burglar alarm, well the engineer finally caught up with me yesterday. When he examined the computer thingy, he couldn't find any fault recorded but he could see where I had been switching it on and off to try and correct it. He had also received a call from my neighbours that live next door but one and it was their alarm that was faulty, not mine! That will teach me not to get engrossed in my Family Tree. Jude, Fred has suggested on Bill's thread that we should have a double act with Madoc and Beckham, maybe we could make our fortune, lol. Elisabeth, I'm having a chuckle at you leaving your mother at the hairdressers, at least she was somewhere warm and plenty of people to chat with. Did your husband sort out the new dishwasher, I think I will have to think about getting one again if we do move in together. The last time I had one, the thought of pots being in there waiting to be washed used to annoy me and I used to take them out and wash them by hand! Sylvia, I wish I had been there with my camera, I have this vision of you riding along, scarf streaming out behind you. Enjoy your little break. Fred, The joys of grandchildren! Its not that they are mean, they just do not think. It is infuriating though when you decide to do something and you cant get on, I try to keep a spare cartridge of each colour in but have just remembered I need a blue replacement. Kathleen, When Beckham has been naughty he spreads out on the floor as though he is pressing himself into the ground wishing it would open up. Sometimes when he does it, I dont even know what he's done and have to go searching to find out. Probably Susan getting cross is frustration, her brain is wanting to do more than her body, it just takes time as you are well aware. Anyway all forgotten now, a sign of a good relationship. I'm off now to get dressed. Love June xx

Morning all,it's not so bad here this morning and i may get out in the garden this afternoon after iv'e taken Liz ut on a promised trip. Fred has been really crafty ,he he ,this little trip will entail passing at least three nursuries and liz is a sucker for her flowers lol,i can see some more plants coming home for Fred to find a home for, those Viola sound tempting Kathleen, and i think some more bluebell bulbs.. The ink replacement is'nt too bad,the four durabrite i need for my Epson are only £15 so it could be a lot worse,i can recommend this printer for anyone ,even a moron [me can set it up for any function cause all you do is press the button it tells you to ,and it does it all for you [my type of printer] and the prints are ace. well ,i'm off before a slipper comes my way, think i could do with loaning one of the dogs to lose them all,but there again Liz might use something heavier ,like a frying pan [gulp].cyal .Fred.ptfg.&a&g&s.

Hi everyone I think we have had a little drop of rain during the night but I dont think it has been enough to do any good. I will still have to fill the bird bath up, these blackbirds splash about so much, they lose most of the water. I am sitting here and I feel half asleep, I must have been in a deep sleep last night. Yesterday I almost completed putting this new information on to my tree, once again I am going sideways and not upwards, still it is information on my greataunt. I still haven't received my grandfather's will, I must ring them today after all they took the money from my account last Thursday so it should soon be on its way. I still haven't got some plants for my garden, where does all the time go? Fred, I hope your little scheme worked and you got some plants. Jude, Its surprising how soon the thread drops out of sight.I just type it in the search box to bring it up these days. Last night I didn't see the friend that I usually see, some people wanted to view my property, cant think why they want to view in the dark. Today is the day for meeting another friend, so no doubt the world will be put to right again. Anyway I had better go and get dressed ready to take my granddaughter to work. I hope Brenda, Ann and Sylvia are enjoying their breaks. Love June xx

Elisabeth Report 10 Mar 2005 09:24

Morning all, I had my usual busy day yesterday, and realised when I got to bed, I hadn’t even looked at the thread – sorry! The new dishwasher is now on order and will arrive on Friday morning. It is almost the same model as we had before so should not be too difficult to get used to. I was convinced the old one hadn’t lasted very long, but looking out the receipt, we had bought it a little over 5 years ago, so that seems par for the course for electrical devices these days. We suspected the control panel had gone on the old one so it probably wouldn’t have been cost effective to have it mended. If we had the pump would have gone soon anyway. I bumped into an acquaintance yesterday who is the mother of two girls the same age as our two boys. The younger daughter had a kidney transplant a few years ago and her parents are always fundraising for kidney research. The daughter is a very accomplished amateur musician and her father had recorded her playing the piano over a number of years. Anyway, the CD of her piano pieces was sent to a record producer and they are running off 500 copies of the music, free of charge. I was so pleased to hand over my money for an early copy. I have already been out this morning as husband has a meeting in London today, so I have dropped him off at the station. It seems a pleasant morning with blue sky and a few clouds. I hope it stays dry as my neighbour is having a new pitched roof built on their garage. The flat one is leaking! The new car is going fine – it gave Mum-in-law a shock when she was arriving at the hairdressers. She always takes the seatbelt off far too early, and it was beeping at her. We tell her so many times to keep the belt on until the car is at a standstill, but she doesn’t listen. Off to do Auntie’s washing now so I can take it back this afternoon when I take her for her pension. She had her electricity bill on Tuesday and is convinced she must pay it within a couple of days. Have a good day. Elisabeth xx

June Report 11 Mar 2005 07:35

Hi everyone Its very blustery here in the NorthWest today, I can hear things getting blown over, I keep glancing out but fortuneately everything seems alright. Well Elisabeth, it looks as though we have the thread to ourselves at the moment, everyone must be very busy. I agree with you, 5 years does seem to be the life span of electrical goods these days. I have recently changed my hoover and the old one was just over 5 years old. No wonder you forgot to add to the thread with all your comings and goings. So far today, I think I have only got to take my granddaughter to work and then pick her up at 6 tonight. Now that I've said that something is bound to crop up. My grandson is coming back on Monday for a couple of days, I cant wait to see him. So next week will be pretty busy. I had better go and get dressed now, then maybe after tidying around, I'll put some more photos on my PAF file. Take care everyone, Love June xx

Elisabeth Report 11 Mar 2005 13:39

Afternoon June, and anyone else, The lovely new dishwasher has arrived - 8.30 am as promised. You always wonder if a promised time window will be achieved but it was. I do have to say, it was only coming about a mile!! It looks lovely but quite complicated, but I will get used to it. (The water inlet is slightly different, so we may have to make some alterations to the pipework behind it, otherwise I would have had it plumbed in by now, and whirring away!) I have done my weekend shopping and a list for Mum so I will soon be on my delivery trip to her. I took Auntie to the post office for her pension yesterday afternoon and it was so funny watching her trying to get in and out of the new car. She is only about 5' and not too agile now but with the smart new seats she couldn't get out at all. We both had a good laugh. I have had a lovely letter from an old friend this morning telling me how she was thinking of me on Mothering Sunday. It is so heart-warming when someone takes the trouble to write a few lines, in a proper letter, to say they thought of you. It is a shame that with all the modern ways of communication, the good old fashioned letter seems to be used so rarely. There is nothing nicer than finding a letter on the mat, rather than bills or offers of fantastic credit cards which go straight in the recycling bin (after being shredded). It seems everyone else is busy, or like Ann and Brenda, off sunning themselves. It is not too sunny here today, very cold and windy with more snow forecast. I pity the poor builder next door, putting a new pitched roof on the garage. It is good to see proper rafters being built from planks of wood, with amazing angles being cut. I could watch him for hours, but can't see him from the computer table!! Have a happy weekend. Elisabeth xx
