I took my sons on an open top bus tour today and we went past Hyde Park, Buckingham Palace & St. Pauls, at all of which points I thought of Diana. nell |

Oh I am sat here really cold and lots of goosebumps. I got up in the morning with my Boyfriend and the phone rang and it was my Mum saying have you heard put the telly on. So I was shouting at the Boyfriend quick Dodi and Di are dead. He didnt have a clue what I was gabbling on about. I just couldnt believe it. And I remember the funeral I was freezing cold all day I sat with a crochet blanket. |

We had just returned from holiday the day before. My daughter woke us up to tell us the news. We spent the day watching the tv, unable to believe what we were seeing and hearing. Yesterday we went to Sandringham, it seemed appropriate somehow, and gave us the opportunity to spend a few quiet moments remembering her, her beauty, her good works and the enormous impact she made on our lives. A piece of history that we have lived through. |

My son was six weeks old and I had gone straight in the bath when I woke up, my eldest daughter was three and she came in the bathroom and told me "A princess had died" I thought it was a story on childrens T.V she had been watching. It still makes me think that life is to short and you should make the most of each and every day. |

I did'nt hear the news until I went to the pub on the Sunday morning and I asked why they had a TV in the lounge. The barman seemed amazed that I did'nt know what had happened. I felt numb that a beautiful woman like Diana could be gone so suddenly. My son was on duty in London for the funeral and he said the atmosphere with the crowds was so emotional that he too found himself crying. It's all so sad for her two sons especially. Jo. |

7 years ago today, Husband, Mothr, Brother and I travelled to Germany for a Holiday. We had to get up at approx 4am , to leave home to czatch early ferry from Dover (we travelled by car all the way). We arrived in Calais, where the flags were half mast. On arrival at out guest house, there were some English Brickies (Think that programme with Jimmy Nail in). Still cant believe that happened. On the day of the funeral, we planned to visit a castle nearby. We arrived before the funeral started, and parked up, In the carpark, there were different so many people, from different nationalities, listening to the funeral on their radios. Liz |

Still go cold when I remember now - just couldn't believe it. We were staying at my in-laws and I was 5/6 months pregnant with Jamie. Charlotte was 17 months. Got up and turned TV on and just stood there shouting for the rest of the family to come. Later that week I went with my mum and Charlotte to Buckingham Palace to lay some flowers at the gate. Can still remember the huge carpet of bouquets and the massive crowds. All the usual noise and bustle of central London, then as you stepped through the police cordon and walked through the flowers, there was total silence, like being in a bubble. Even the children seemed to know and were just in awe. I will never forget it. I hope now, as then, that she found her peace at last. Maz. XX |

My husband and I (well it seems appropriate to start with a royal beginning) woke up to the radio alarm, with the newsreaders talking about "Diana". We took a few minutes to wake up and take in which Diana they meant. 17 years before that I woke to the news that John Lennon had been shot. Now I wake up to music instead, its less traumatic. 31st August was my father-in-law's birthday. We took him and his lady companion out for a pub meal and sat outside while our children played near the river. Although it was a great shock, I couldn't really see Princess Di growing old. For the record, I don't see that Camilla is a bitch. I don't know anything about their private lives and what you read in the papers about what other people said they say and do is just gossip. Would anyone's private life stand up to scrutiny in the media? I do think that Charles & Di shouldn't have married, but were pushed into it because he needed to marry and his wife had to be a virgin of childbearing age who wasn't Catholic (or indeed acceptably any faith other than C of E). And she didn't die because she was in a car crash, she died because she wasn't wearing a seat belt. My 5-year-old son used to check regularly that I had my seat-belt on when I got in the car for quite a while after the accident. Strange role-reversal, but his name was William and I think because Di's son was William it occured to him people's mummys could die. I told him not only did I always wear a seat belt, but that I didn't go around in cars which exceeded the speed limit, or which were driven by people who had been drinking. nell |

My son was then 2 years old. Hubby had gone to do a private moving job, I put on the telly, and before switching to kids programmes, I caught a bit of the news. It was footage of Diana, a lot of footage,. I put on teletext and there at the top of the news page was DIANA AND DODI DEAD. I felt numb. I think it hit home hard, as she was our princess, an icon in our country, had money, had protection. And even with all that protection, here she was dead. It brought home the reality that it could be anyone of us in an instant, no time to say goodbye, things unsaid,. I cuddled my son & told him (as I always tell him) I love you. And thought of her sons & the raw grief they were experiencing. I dont think the royal family planned this accident. The queen loves her grandsons, as Charles loves his sons, and i doubt neither would delibratly inflict the pain of losing their mother on to them. It was Dianas & Dodis choice to get into that car that night. Maybe if they had left half hour earlier/later they would still be alive today. As for Charles & horsey face, if William & Harry are happy thats all that matters. Elaine x |
