Hi Sue. Yes have all the directories here. Actually I was only half serious when I mentioned a coach and driver. But I am now wondering. We have a mixture of members hoping to come. But of course we all have different tastes. They are not all going to want to sit in a pub all day, having a good old chin wag surely. What do you think? Jennyx |

I'm up for it. I will be driving up to Hartlepool probably on the Wednesday, relaxing and visiting rellies for a day or so, then up to the Toon on Saturday morning, stay at a B&B in the area, A drive round the Collieries, Wingate, Coxhoe, Cornforth etc on Sunday, and then Durham Record Office on Monday for however long it takes, and drive back home later in the week. |

Does anyone know how much it costs to hire a 52 seater coach and driver for the day??? We could get it to pick us up at Central Station, take in The Angel of the North, The New Millenium Bridge, Baltic Flour Mills etc. For all those that have not been up here for years. A trip to North Shields Fish Quay for Fish and Chips. Say hello to Stan Laurel then on to Tynemouth Priory and Castle, gulping in all that sea air. A quick pint in the Stuffed Dog, say hello to Wanderin' Willie in the glass case. Then onto Whitley Bay. Come on you Geordie's help me out here. You know the place better than me. Jennyx |

Sorry, folks, I seem to be monopolising this thread! LoL Hi Jenny, Thank you. Not knowing any better, I'll go where I'm put! But don't take me anywhere where they sell fish - I'd just HAVE to buy some and I'd be very unpopular going round the Museum, etc! LoL It's Sunderland, BWMth cemetery and Boldon I'd like to see mainly, but Whitley Bay sounds tempting - I like the sea. The other places I've mentioned matter less, and I don't have to see them all this trip. If I behave, I might be allowed back another time, and I could see the rest then. I think there could be several of us 'foreigners' wanting to look around the area. Perhaps we can find out who wants to look where and all try and go together? See what everyone else thinks. Jim and Kim, where are you? CB >|< |

C B. You are going to have one massive itinerary on your hands. Christchurch in Tynemouth, is where I live. I think we had better put you up for the weekend, have the Meet-up at Tynemouth, then on to Whitley Bay for the afternoon and early evening. Then on the Sunday to the Church then round the big Preston Road Cemetary, both five minutes away from me, then get you to South Shields Church which is on the way to Sunderland. Anyone fancy Whitley Bay???? Taking in Tynemouth and North Shields Fish Quay before hand. There are plenty of B*B's in Whitley Bay. Jenny x |

Andrea, Thank you. I have read a couple of articles about the disaster and seen a web photo of the memorial. I now know it's been moved to Mowbray Park, so I can go and photgraph it. Do you know if the Museum is open on Sundays, please? I was disappointed to see that the street maps I've got don't give the names of the various churches shown. I'd particularly like to know the whereabouts of Holy Trinity and St Peter's (Sunderland), St Nicholas (Newcastle), Christ Church (Tynemouth) and St Hilda's (South Shields). If someone could please tell me which roads they are in, that would help a lot. CB >|< X |

Anna, I think mainly Bishopwearmouth, but if there's another in Hendon, I'd be interested in that. Grandad was born in Silver St, others lived in Dock Street, Stamps Lane and Lawton (?) Street. I'd also be interested in seeing Toward Road, where my Gt Uncle died as a child in a stampede in a theatre in 1883. It's not there now, but I'd like to see where it was. A monument was put up in BWMth Cemetery to the children who died there, and I'd like a picture of it, if poss, but just a general wander round would be good. Thanks. CB >|< |

Anna, All day I hope. We will all have to agree on a time, according to those that have to travel a distance. Trains arriving etc. I would have thought around 11am at Central Station, perhaps a little later. What do you think? CB Got your other E'mail. Thats great. Will see what I can sort out. Looking forward to seeing you both. Jennyx |

Why oh why am I in Istanbul? You guys have got me green with envy... Thanks for the tall ships info, we're planning our first 'together' visit to the UK for July... hubby is pracitisin his Geordish like crazy ..lol... Must tell you this one... a couple of nights ago he was chatting to customers in the wine bar (not Yates), they told him they were from Newcastle, so he starts talking about Cramlington, Blyth, mentions the Central Station and waffles on as though he knows the toon like the back of his hand, so much so they came back FOUR times. I know he's a charmer - but I never took him for a fibber, will have to watch this one more closely ...lol... With be with you all in spirit on 23rd - perfect choice mommy! This should nudge it up a bit... Magi - the homesick Geordie in Istanbul |
