Cliff Curtis another NZ actor plays her father - he was in a George Clooney film Three Kings (! not certain of the title) playing an Iraqi (yes Maori actors play these types of roles - a bit like Anthony Quinn as a Mexican) |

Google and you would be right - Whale Rider was a hit film around the world, Keisha Castle Hughes playing the girl who guides the whale back to sea is recognised as her family's leader and is accepted as such by the grandfather. It is a good film, sad yes but you will enjoy it. |

As mentioned this is a NZ film, the lead actress was nominated for best actress - tells the story of girl fighting for acceptance from her grandfather, she was a twin her brother died at birth. The sea and giant creature from the sea are focal points of the film. |
