Oops, forgot I had been waiting for you to come back so that I could post a message about a brilliant play that we went to see. It was 'The History Boys' and it was great. It's set in a sixth form college history class. Although they have had many scholars go to university they haven't had any go to Oxford or Cambridge. They bring in a new young tutor in the hope that he can teach them how to get in to one of these, much to the disappointment of the existing old master. It was both funny and moving in places and well worth a visit. Chrissie xx |

I didn't even know that was on Lynda! Where is it please? Frances I love Les Mis too :-)) ex and f-i-l both mad on it - we used to have the video and CD, but they were 'his' so I haven't got them any more! I didn't like Miss Saigon though - too operatic for me - I couldn't understand the words! I'd like to take the kids to Les Mis, I know they do matinees, but I worry that it would be too long for them. Maz. XX |

Hello Lynda I saw Joseph and the Amazing Colour Dreamcoat a long time ago when Philip Scholfield was in it. I went with my sister and her husband, and it was brilliant. Think we saw it in Tottenham Court road. I remember singing the songs all the way home ! Jayne x |

Lynda I've just spotted your thread and had a quick look through. We saw A Slice of Saturday Night quite a lot of years ago with Alvin Stardust as the Club Owner. It was great and I wish it would come back. I still hum some of the songs now. I still have the soundtrack on cassette (!!!!) somewhere. |

went to see a feelgood theatre production of Arthur and the Britons in Heaton Park, Manchester on Sunday night. It was fantastic. This is where the scenes move around and the audience follows. The atmosphere was amazing. I would definately recommend any outdoor walk about performances to anyone, I have seen Much ado about nothing and Romeo and Juliette. All outstanding from small companies, that are often charities too that struggle against huge theatre productions. catherine xx |

We went to 'A Summer Soire`e' evening last Saturday. Two one act plays with strawberries, cream and wine. We didn't enjoy the first play 'A Respectable Funeral' by Jimmy Chinn. I'm not a big fan of his anyway but hubby is and even he didn't enjoy it. Too morbid. The second one however was very well done and very funny. It was 'Albert' by Richard Harris. I am a fan of his anyway as I love 'Stepping Out' and 'Outside Edge' but this one was new to me. It's a fairly simple concept but very well written. A Finnish au pair is looking after an Italian couples baby while they are away, when the husbands brother arrives on a visit. Throughout the play they are trying to speak to each other, he is Italian, she in Finnish (obviously both spoken in English or the audience wouldn't have understood:). Some really funny misunderstandings occur, which are only complicated further by the arrival at the end of an Englishman. He fell for the last au pair who was French and has come to visit her but he mistakes the new au pair for the lady of the house. It sounds a bit corny the way I've described it but it was so well written and acted that some of the more predictable lines could be forgiven. Chrissie xx |

MOVIN' OUT music by Billy Joel A musical with a difference, no dialogue, but dance routines to Billy Joel songs portaying a story of 5 high school friends after leaving school. In order to appreciate this show I recommend advance knowledge of the storyline, otherwise I envisage it being a little difficult to understand. Excellent music. |

Went to see Frank Sinatra show at the Palladium, fantastic. The story of Frank Sinatra, told by him, with picture footage, of the great man himself, singing. The Big band, were sooooo good, also the singers and dancers who did a fantastic job. Came out singing, now there a treat:))) Well worth a visit, especially if you love Sinatra. Lynda |

Your absolutely right Lynda. Blood Brothers is totally different from any of the other musicals that I can think of. Since I saw Miss Saigon I have started to realise that I think I would have enjoyed it far more if hubby had enjoyed it. I'm not usually swayed by others opinions but he so didn't like it that I think I questioned my own judgement on it. Chrissie xx |
