Yeah Aileen I remember there was a mad Irish bloke, everyone loved him he spoke rubbish and sense, and always got some money out off people, which you weren't supposed to do. There was the bible thumpers of course, have to have them. Although Lord Soper used to pop down there, as did Bruce Kent. There was many oddballs I remember a bloke who was full of tattoes I can't remember what he used to shout about, but I know I was bored and used to try and work out what a lot of the tattoes were LOL. Talk about colourful Characters, got them all there. Tony Benn was never announced, he would just arrive and then that would be it, the rest could forget it oh except the bible thumpers of course LOL. Lucia any more clues, I am so useless at modern stuff, I know thick I am, sorry. :-) Pat x

Before we got married and moved to Surrey my hubby and I used to go up to Speakers Corner occasionally. Some of the speakers were so funny we were in hysterics. Others spoke absolute drivel or were bible thumpers which I can never stand listening to. Then you got someone who would be really topical and you got a good old debate going without it getting personal. Those were the days. Aileen

Lucia afraid I know zilch about poetry i'm afraid. I would recommend early Woody Allen like Sleeper, Annie Hall, Broadway Danny Rose, Puple Rose of Cairo, Manhatten, Hannah & her Sisters, Radio Days, Play it again Sam, take the money and Run. I like all those and Diane Keaton who is in some of them is great. Lucia I attend as many anti war demonstrations as I can, never have changed my view, never will now too old to now :-) Pat x

BTW, Were any of you at the big anti-war protest a few years ago in Trafalger Square? I was and the amount of people there was phenomenal. There was new age, monks, buddhists...you name it! lol Lucia :-)

Maybe that's where all the Glasgow lot where when they weren't to be seen? LOL I have great memories of Hippies I also walked the Oxfam 1969 march with many thousands of school girls (like me) sponsored from School and tons and I mean tons of hippies joined in, brilliant it was. Many demonstrations at Grosvenor Square anti Vietnam time, it was an unforgettable time, and they were great. Pat x

Pat Report 7 Mar 2005 23:15

LOL depends where your Mum lived and what she did Lucia. I was on many demonstrations with thousands of hippies, hung around Hyde Park on Sundays mainly speakers corner, there was always plenty hippies chilling in Summer there and all over London, so I don't know where your Mum was? Pat x Oh yes Annie Hall is right, do you like any Woody Allen films? Well done Lucia X

I used to see a lot of hippies in Glasgow in the 70s. Now they only come out when we have an environmental fair. Think they must be kept in a trunk in the attic the rest of the time. Aileen
