See what u mean, Jock-Taffy. Bob Regarding unpaid members, my wife is registered, but not paid up, so any contacts/requests she requires, I do for her, mostly.....

bob, i have changed my name to the above, as my brother-in-law has access to this site although he ain't a member, and has remarked on my comments, my building and adding of decended members. etc. the usual genuine members like your self will know who i am. if not i'll give you a clue, stars, moon, nasa, grampa, we have communicated a few times to each other

If I want to get in touch with another subscriber, which I fequently do, this may be done off the boards, quite simply. Then is the time to divulge actual identities, if one thinks fit. I have disagreed, quite amicably, with Grandpa Jim several times and do so again here. GpJ has also contacted me off the boards Len

I think that a genuine first name and your registered number should go a long way to foiling cheats....if a message is 'unusual' then a hover on the name will show up if its genuine.?

i do agree with you len, when you get chatting etc yes, your area, town will get thrown into the conversation somewhere along the line and it don't take brains to retreive the persons info. we are on this site, we do have the knowledge to gather all our and other peoples info for them. i think hiding our identities is the best way, only genes will know our particulairs

Denise - your name will still stay the same in the name search. Joy

I used my real name for a long time then I started to have telephone calls that I really didn't need. As I do not want to go ex-directory for several reasons, it seemed logical to refrain from using my surname. Bear in mind that if you publish your name here, I for one can easily get your address (and telephone number unless you are ex-directory) from my UK-Info Disc and there are thousands of less scrupulous people out there able to do the same. Thanks for this thread Grampa, it's been really interesting reading it. I've never used my surname on the boards because when I joined the site, I was still in the midst of adoption stuff and have personal reasons for not wanting my maiden name (ie my parents' surname) brandished too publicly, especially as it's quite unusual. However, I don't mind having my married name on show if it would help with security issues. I also think that it should only be full paying members who can view the site - the same as it is on other websites. Also by only having paying members, they are easier to track down via their payment method. Mandy :)
