Thank you Caz for your concern, I am coping, having good and bad days, but I have my family, we are all very close and help one another. I also have all my 'family reasearch' friends around the world. Only this last week a third cousin in Canada found me and the best part is she is second cousin to another contact here in UK, there is a fourth cousin out in NZ, who is actually a fourth cousin and I seem to be the one that they have contacted in the first place. Every event and incident is very different since I lost my husband and as a result I take each day at a time. The offer of a meeting and a coffee is very kind of you and yes I will take you up on the offer one day soon. The idea of a 'Matlock Meet' also interests me, I have noticed that there are a number of you on here that live very close to me but I do not have anyone to 'work with'. As I have transport I would appreciate the company some time. Gill |

It feels odd, I have just looked at the old photos, I lived in South Normanton until I was 16 and can only remember a couple of things, a bit disappointed with myself really. June xx |

Hi Elaine and all re a meet up may i only has a suggestion recomend lunch at The Peacock at Oakerthorpe, recently had some fantastic food there, and it has large tables that can cater for large groups, and the pub has masses of history, being several hundred years old, it has a well, in the bar and aledgedly a tunnel up to Wingfield Manor. where Mary Queen of Scots was prisoned and she was thought to have been brought to the pub via the tunnel, ther are lots of pictures and litrature about this and the local history. only a thought |

Hi Elaine Most of my Maternal family came from around the Matlock area My Greatgrandparents lived in Lea and my Grandmother and mother lived in Matlock before she got married then moved to Yorkshire but I remember visiting there as a child. my Greatgrandparents had a farm in Lea and I vaguely remember my mother telling me that her father and his parents owned a bakers shop in Matlock. I also had an Auntie on my fathers side that way back in the 50s owned a cinema in Ambergate. I remember going there when I was a child. Matlock is so pretty and it has always stuck in my memory. It's been many many years since I was last there. Too many miles away now to visit again I think. I will always remember it though Regards Jackie |

Kim. I USED TO WORK AT THORNTON's IN BELPER ...... used to get on the train every morning from Matlock ! Guess where my daughter started working last Monday ?????????? Thornton's ... in Somercoates ... Belper - as far as I'm aware, was shut down ... and replaced with this head quarters at Somercoates. Kim ..... this is REALLY spooky ..... I had a load of friends at Thornton's ... I loved it working there ! ... and that's what convinced my daughter to give it a try. I remember people face to face ... but I'm terrible with names. And by the way ... I was UNDER age when I worked at the Pav !! ... started in the cafe end ... then did some glass collecting ... then behind the bar at 17+ !! I wonder if we do know each other ? Elaine :-) ... feeling really guilty now incase we were once friends .... pmsl !... its c26 years since I worked at Thornton's !! my fella had a bike and sometimes collected me from work ? |
