Christine, Took me ages to remember the originals of those UB40 versions, BUT if it means that even ONE person will look for the original Reggae or Soul versions and enjoy them, it's worth it :-) Yeah sorry reading back it does look a bit show off :-( Still I will leave it there anyway. Pat x

Slightly different tack... Heard a nice song recently, sung by Norah Jones... 'Heart of Mine'. Found out that the original was a Bob Dylan song. Downloaded it from iTunes... dreadful ! lol

Heard a new release of Cat Steven's song Father and Son done by a duo. I knew it wasn't him, but the guy who was singing had his voice down perfect. Margaret

Paul, Are you sure Tainted Love is a remake? I seem to remember I have a copy of that on 45 from the 80's from Australia. Maybe a re-release? Or maybe just new to the UK? Fine Young Cannibals did a good version of Elvis' Suspicious Minds. More upbeat - nice tempo. Margaret

Louise especially for you, I looked up what Reggae songs UB40 recorded and so here goes: Cherry Oh Baby Eric Donaldson Keep On Moving The Wailers Please Don't Make Me Cry Winston Groovy Sweet Sensation The Melodians Johnny Too Bad The Slickers Red Red Wine written by Neil Diamond Reggae hit for Tony Tribe Guilty Tiger She Caught The Train Ray MArtell Version Girl R. Livingstone Many Rivers To Cross Jimmy Cliff Here I Am (Come And Take Me)originally sung by Al Green written Green/Hodges Reggae version by Al Brown 1971. Groovin' (out on life) Hopeton Lewis The Way You Do The Things You Do The Temptations Reggae version by Eric Donaldson Wear You To The Ball written and performed by John Holt /Hugh Roy Singer Man Kingstonians Kingston Town Lord Creator aka Kentrick Patrick Baby The Heptones Sweet Cherrie Honey Boy Stick By Me John Holt Just Another Girl Ken Boothe written by H.Seaton/K.Boothe Homely Girl The Chi-lites Hit in Reggae by Jackie Robinson Impossible Love Bob Andy aka Keith Anderson Holly Holy written by Neil Diamond Fabulous Flames It's My Delight The Melodians Come Back Darling Johnny Osbourne Never Let You Go Reggae hit for the late Slim Smith written by Winston Holness aka Niney Soul Rebel The Wailers My Best Girl Written by John Holt sung by the Paragons Good Ambition Leonard Dillon The Ethiopians The Train Is Coming Ken Boothe Blood And Fire Winston Holness aka Niney Mr. Fix It Winston Francis Stay A Little Bit Longer Delano Stewart Someone Like You The Wailers The Time Has Come the late Slim Smith Crying Over You Ken Boothe Legalise It Peter Tosh There maybe more that I have missed, but I believe every one of the above are better than UB40's lame versions. Pleased you like the Paragons version of 'The Tide Is High' written by John Holt lead singer with the Paragons in those days, better than Blondie's or even the Atomic Kitten versions. Oh I also agree 'Tainted Love' was ruined by Soft Cell :-( Pat x

Mama told me not to come written by Randy Newman. I first heard it years ago done by Three Dog Night. I have Randy Newman's version and the one Tom Jones did with the Stereophonics on Reload and I love all 3 - its a great song! I heard it through the grapevine Marvin Gaye classic, but originally recorded by Gladys Knight & the Pips. I drive my kids mad when they say they like a 'new' song and I dive into our CD collection to find the original! nell
