Hi folks With holidays on the horizon I thought this quote might amuse you all I like to have exciting evenings on holiday, because after you've spent eight hours reading on the beach you don't feel like turning in early with a good book Arthur Smith (1954- ) (The Live Bed Show 1995) Dee xx |

Hi folks I have ordered The Family Tree, it should be here this week, it is a hardback, so I assume it hasn't been around long. Is anyone else finding Cloud Atlas difficult to follow or is it just me? Hi Anne It's good to see a new 'face', hope you have a great holiday and look forward to hearing what you think of the books you read. Dee xx |

Hi Dee, I haven't heard from Mike since last friday. Hope he is OK. I have read Cloud Atlas - as soon as I see it was a contender for a Booker prize i know I am in trouble!!! I kept thinking i was on the way to understanding it when the story changed. And some of it I just couldn't follow. Glad I am not alone!! |

Hi Ann I have ordered it second hand from Amazon, seemed a good deal Cloud Atlas is not getting any better. I hope the other book for this month will be better, Crimson Petal and the White. The other half bought me a book the other week - 'The Floating Brothel' by Sian Rees!!!! Not sure what the woman in the shop must have thought of him!!! Based on a true account of 237 women convicts sent to Australia in 1789 to provide a 'breeding bank' for the men already there. Amazing what happened in those days isn't it? Dee |

Dee Hmm the floating brothel, sounds interesting. Must get around to ordering Family Tree, don't really want to pay £9.99 for it. For those interested: Mike is OK, he hasn't been too good over the weekend due to an accident at work but has been back in touch now. Jacqui any sign of that book yet? Taking ages isn't it? Ann It might be an idea if we find out from Mike what the runner up was in the vote for non classic as it seems The Family Tree may be difficult to get hold of. I am quite happy to lend you my copy if it helps, hope it will arrive today or tomorrow. Was sorry to hear about Mike's accident, If you are looking in Mike I hope you will soon be fully recovered. Dee xx |

First of all Hi Mike - hope you are fully recovered now - any excuse to stay at home and read all day eh??!!! Family Tree - hmmm - have reserved this at work today and am a bit puzzled! There are copies available in Haringey libraries - already being loaned. Wandsworth libraries have their copies added on the computer - not yet available for loan. Redbridge - where I work - don't even have any listed on the computer!! If WE can't get it, I'm not surprised YOU LOT can't!!! Maz. XX |

I have just ordered The family tree from Amazon second hand, works out about £9 with postage. Couldn't get it any cheaper, mostly about £6.50 plus postage. Tescos on line was £9 plus postage so dearer than it will probably be in the shops. Not that I have seen it in the shops yet. it had beter be worth it. if anyone want to wait until i have received it and read it, then just pay the postage I will share with them. Ann Glos |

Hi folks I heard from Mike last night and he is so frustrated that he cannot reply to threads in person Ann He was sorry to hear about your son in law, and hopes he will soon make a full recovery He has noticed people are having trouble getting hold of The Family Tree. Should we be considering one of the runners up as an alternative? Let us know what you think. The runners up were The Time Travellers Wife and Never Look Back Less than a month now until you are back with us Mike, counting the days. Dee xx (The soon to be redundant Bibliomaniac) |

Hi folks I have finished Cloud Atlas, not sure how I can review it though! It is not going to be easy. I think I must be really thick ( Mike, you are not supposed to agree with that comment!!!!! ) I have my suspicions that this book has a deep inner meaning, the trouble is I am at a loss to know what it is!!!! I have two weeks to read the other book, The Crimson Petal and The White, so I hope that one will be more to my taste Dee xx |

Hi everyone! Well, I am well and truly started on the Crimson Petal - Dee, beware it is LONG!!! Getting in a bit of a pickle now with books lol. Have got Cloud Atlas sitting there - needs to be read by the 23rd - but today the new Kathy Reichs came in for me, and my boss is next on the waiting list so I can't put it off! Have also got Rebecca and the Family Tree came today too. Then there is the latest John Connelly also in the pile - probably others waiting for that one too!! Its not that I don't want to read them all - I DO!! - but there just aren't enough hours in the day for all this reading and the rest of my life too!!! Maz. XX |

Can't seem to get into it....probably because the boys are here and I seem to be cooking or preparing food or clearing up after food constantly!!!!!! Jacquie xxxx |

Jacquie Let me know if you want me to send you my copy of Cloud Atlas. Maz I know the feeling. I came back from holiday with a pile of new books. I tend to go into the local Tourist imformation offices and buy books about life in the area that have been written by local people. They are often quite fascinating. I have stopped doing housework, find it gives me the time I need to read, and come on these boards!!!!!! Dee xx |
