I am thinking of you and your family at this worrying time. I know exactly how you are feeling as my husband has had similar blood disorder, a lymphoma. He has had it for many years and (despite some very scary moments) he has normal blood results now. Try not to panic. Here are some practical suggestions which might help. I think it's a good idea to go with your husband when he has appointments with doctors because two people seem to hear and remember more about what was said. I wish I had kept a written record of the various treatments and exactly when things happened. My husband's hospital records are so thick that when we see anyone they tend to ask us what he is taking and when he had particular treatments/operations etc. I think it helps to do your own research. I eventually found a drug being trialed in the USA and showed the docs the information. My husband was put on it and that really made a difference. Even in dark moments there is hope and I do believe that all the prayers that were said for my husband helped. If you need to chat to someone who has been there please contact me. very best wishes Sue

Heather Report 24 Jun 2005 23:23

I am so very sorry to hear your news. But to try to be positive, if he has at least 15 years you can at least plan to use every moment of those years wisely My sister had similar dreadful news about her husband,53, a few years back, but it was a fast spreading cancer and she lost him the following year. There were so many things they had wanted to do, but had saved the money for an early retirement at 55 when they were planning to move abroad and just enjoy life. They had no time to do that, all the money just sat there. Try to think of the 15 years as being time to enjoy every thing you have wanted to do together. And, 15 years or more is a long time during that time many things may change, new drugs/treatment discovered. I will pray for you.
