Christine Loved the cat stories especially the wrapping paper one. I have 4 cats and one of them (Mynx) is exactly as you described. Every time she sees wrapping paper she goes mad and ends up ripping the paper. When I put the presents under the tree on christmas eve she leaps on them all and runs round the room having a mad half hour. Juliexx

Love christmas but am always disappointed that it doesn't snow like it used to. Decorating tree with the kids putting up cards and other decorations, buying presents. My favourite though is watching them open their presents christmas morning especially the ones other people have bought when I don't know what they are.

Sorry.......... can't get into Christmas this year - I don't even want to think about it........... have been looking for part time work for 10 months now without success, registered disabled due to neck injury 2 years ago in a car accident (although you wouldn't know by appearance alone thankfully) but it restricts work I can do and also absence record from full time work due to injury doesn't help. I have tried and tried even for a position in a sandwich shop but with no success.......... Not entitled to benefits cos disability isn't considered severe enough (although the pain is real) and can't get incapacity benefit except for N.I. contributions paid due to not earning enough in the last 2 years, again due to to time off sick due to accident, to have made enough contributions - so no income.......... normally I'm like a kid at Christmas but this year I don't know what I am going to do............ Still....... I'll be smiling and laughing as usual, just won't be able to give any pressies.

Hi Gaynor Sorry to hear about your problems. I'm sure your family and friends love you for yourself and not what you give them. Have you ever considered giving them IOU's ie offering to walk dog, babysit etc for x number of times/hours. (I don't know whether or not there are any children/pets in family. If not something else) I'm sure these would be appreciated. Juliexx

That's a great idea Julie, I might just try that one if I am still in the same position, although I sounded negative I really am not that way inclined...... trouble I really do love buying gifts for people I love, but like you say.... I.O.U's are a great idea :-)

Gaynor Have you thought about making little gifts like a batch of toffee or fudge or doing some pickles etc. A friend of mine does this most years as to quote her she aint got two pennies to rub together. She even makes things for her mum plus she does a promise gift for her mum and other family members like help with spring clean , 2 nights babysitting ( she said she would offer more if she wasn't looking after the devils kids !!!! LOL ) I make a couple of extra xmas cakes and give them as gifts , mind you one reason fro that is the recipe I have is for a 3 tier wedding cake and we only need one LOL Have also done a dozen mince pies as a gift for some one a fews years ago Jan xxx

Gaynor, when I first got married we didn't have much money, none to spare on Christmas so I made all my presents that year...do you remember those awful nail and string pictures...I made about 4 of those..!!!! lol We also made a lot of the kids presents. Good Luck to you this year.....we will be very frugal as well. Jacquie. xxxx

Jacquie, All for the cake? I don't think so......½ cup of whisky to soak the fruit in for 3 months. ¼ cup extra needed to pour over the top when it comes out of the oven, the rest is mine. Which is why I bought a lovely bottle of Jamiesons.
