I've heard that when you pass to the world of spirit and you haven't learnt your 'lessons', you choose the next body to come back in and keep coming back untill you learn them. i don't like all this life is about learning lessons business. We have all that at school. I feel a 'meaning of life' thead coming on.

I think some people are Reincarnated as part of their journey through life (not just this life) and as part of the lessons that need to be learned. I agree that there must be a degree of choice - don't see how everybody can be reincarnated. It's an interesting debate and I'm really enjoying reading all the different views. Kaye x

Em, for a psychologist, you don't half ramble! Who says we are imprisoned (justly or not)? Who says we have had past lives to sin in? Who says we committed evil in paradise? Who says we are from paradise? Perhaps we are involved in some sort of meaningless game (which I have already postulated, on another thread - though no-one rose to that bait!). You are over-complicating the issue; you are trying to understand the full workings of a car by looking at a wheel nut - it can't be done. Accept that there is more to find out about, but you can't do that - yet - and enjoy theorising about it all. Alternatively, of course, there is nothing more than a wheel nut... Rob

I am afraid, that as a christian and a psychologist, i believe that Reincarnation cannot account for itself. Why are our souls imprisoned in bodies? Is it the just punishment for evils we committed in past reincarnations? But why were those past reincarnations necessary? For the same reason. But the beginning of the process that justly imprisoned our souls in bodies in the first place—this must have antedated the series of bodies. How could we have committed evil in the state of perfect, pure, heavenly spirituality? Further, if we sinned in that paradise, it is not paradisical after all. Yet that is the state that reincarnation is supposed to lead us back to after all our embodied yearnings are over. If the answer is given that our bodies are not penalties for sin but illusions of individuality, the pantheistic One becoming many in human consciousness, no reason can possibly be given for this. Indeed, Hinduism calls it simply lila, divine play. What a stupid game for God to play! If Oneness is perfection, why would perfection play the game of imperfection? All the world’s sins and sufferings are reduced to a meaningless, inexplicable game.

Good to see your debating juices flowing, Len. One interesting thought - what if the spiritual world is not temporally linked to the physical world (the one we all know - erm, maybe we all THINK we know)? Reincarnation could then take place at any period in history; some may live the same life over again (hopefully getting it right, this time!); others may leap forward (so your last life WAS in 600BC, Pauline); while others may go back, and become the great inventors of their time. One other thought - reincarnation makes more sense of the biblical threat of 'the sins of the fathers being visited upon the children.' To punish a generation for faults not their own does not seem just; to punish a reincarnated spirit for his misdemeanours in past lives does. Rob

A lot of you have already indicated my views. I believe to a certain extent. I have read a lot on the subject and believe that some are reincarnated because they have left certain things unfinished that are of extreme importance to them. For example one book took a young girl back through several lives and in each one she either bore children and lost them or for whatever reason could not conceive. Each time her spirit returned it was with the intent to have children and live long enough to see them fulfil their lives dreams. Authors Edgar Case and Jess Stern were strong believers in reincarnation and supernatural events. If you can find anything on these authors and are interested in the subject have a read.

i often wonder if your reincarnated how come your spirit speaks to medium, but praps its cos you spirit lives on but your soul moves to a new person, dunno

I once paid £70 to be regressed by a lady hypnotist at her house in Aylesbury. Two other people, complete strangers to one another, also took part in the experience which was spread over a week-end, with mid-day meals provided. Each of the subjects took a turn at being regressed whilst the other two witnessed the session and made notes, as well as having it tape-recorded. I was regressed to the year 1340 and was staggered by the amount of information I gave of the period about which I am sure I had no previous knowledge. History was not a suject that interested be up until then. len

The body dies BUT does the spirit?? and where does it go ?? how can you explain the feeling you have been somewhere before when you have not been there in your present lifetime ?? Too many questions that cannot be answered. So the spirit/soul must survive until it finds a body to inhabit. .. Well thats my theory

Plato regarded the soul as being like the brain but without the physical properties; a rational, free-floating eternal intelligence. He regarded God in the same light but omnipotent. Many cosmologists now concede that the universe cannot be explained by mathematics but can only be the product of a vast intelligence It is beginning, according to scientists, to become apparent that we do have souls although perhaps it is more p.c. to refer to this intelligence as “mind or consciousness”. So far, science has been unable to define consciousness. Evidence is slowly emerging that this mind/soul/consciousness is NOT a brain function but is capable of leaving the body for periods, sometimes returning. This is the inference of the 5 independent reports referred to elsewhere. There are other sources. It is not a great leap of logic to suppose that the period may extend to infinity i.e. when the body no longer sustains life and is beyond resuscitation. A professor of psychology at City University (London) described the power of mind/consciousness as “ a subtle energy field that, as yet, we can’t measure but which can, in various ways, interact between living organisms” The mind may also contact and influence other minds instantaneously, irrespective of distance (Distant Intentionality). This ability may account for other phenomena such as hypnosis, spiritual healing, clairvoyance, premonitions and so on. It may also affect inanimate things. If it can do this whilst within a living brain, why not after separation (or liberation)? So is this mind an independent spirit which may still have intelligent thought after departing from a body? May it still have an interest in its living kith and kin and perhaps seek to influence or comfort them? And could it return to a different, unborn body? That would be re-incarnation.. Nor is it beyond reasoning, based on published scientific papers, that a mind separated from a body under traumatic or unexpectedly violent circumstances may be unable to adapt to the change and be left in a void or “time warp”. Ghosts did someone say? If there is a God and he gave us free-will and the power to think, would it be churlish not to do so?
