Dear Guys, I thank you from my heart, I have just returned home. Ive been in the hospital since Wednesday. First day dad unconscious but was squeezing my hand when I asked if he knew I was there. I was telling him I wanted him well and he would have to come home with me. I told him my eldest boy was coming down to see him and he waved his hand as if to say 'No, I dont want him to see me like this' but I said, 'Tough dad, he loves you so much, he will come anyway'. We took his shaving stuff in and a male nurse shaved him and washed him and put on his face creme I bought him and I have to say he looked beautiful. None of the nurses could believe he was that old. They all thought he was in his 70's. He always has a tan, full head of hair and not one wrinkle on his face. Second day he was still responding to us. I had seen in his Radio Times he had circled the England Poland match so I took in the paper and eldest son read the report on it and he kicked his feet about. On his birthday, his book on Millwall FC 1895-1940 (when he played with them) arrived - Id ordered it for him for a present. I took it in and read out the names and places to him and he moved his feet around. When I kissed him he would move his feet too. My sister bought a miniature bottle of whisky and we asked if it was ok to put a tiny drop on his lips and the sister said that was no problem. He moved his feet around again. The consultant told us it was a massive stroke and after 48 hours he had taken dad off antibiotics (he had a chest infection aswell) and that it was really a case of just time. My sister and my son had to go home - she is in Nottingham, son in Peterborough. I packed my case to go too and it was in sons car when we went to the hospital but when I saw dad I couldnt leave him. I stayed with him all yesterday and had a chair next to his bed during the night, holding his hand. His breathing was getting very laboured and they kept having to use suction to clear his chest. At 3.30 my husband appeared around the curtain - I thought I was dreaming at first as I hadnt expected him down again til today but he said he was worried and at 4.30 a.m. he took me back to dads house and returned to the hospital to sit with dad - he said I should rest and then hed pick me up (only 10 minutes away) at 8. At 6 am he came back to dads and I knew from his tears - Guys, I am so very very proud of my dad and I am glad I kept telling him that - not just while he was in hospital but always. Thank you so much for your kind thoughts. He was a wonderful man and I am very blessed to have known him and even more blessed that he was my father.
