Any man who hits his wife needs to be locked up. Since when does a woman have to ask her husbands permission to do something. Its the 21st century. He may disagree, but to hit his wife is no excuse. and as usual, the army pulles ranks

I wonder too Em, I once won a baby doll in Majorca (not a nightie..blush), playing bingo lol when I was 17, The doll had pierced ears and earrings, which I found very amusing at the time. I do wonder (and this is no reflection on all the wonderful young mums out there) if a very small minority of very young mums have a little girl , and love to show her off like a dolly ? ( I know we all gush over those little pink dresses awww ) (remember i'm not knocking all young mums, or any mums who have had their babies ears pierced. the majority are sensible and...well...great mums ! ) E

yes i see Elaine, and i do think we did stray off the point a little, you are right it is not a slur on a persons parenting skill, just that i do wonder if they have thought the matter through fully or just acted because its the done thing to do.

Em I personally wouldnt have my kids done young., I can see the dangers of ear piercing (im a worrier) But its up to individial parents to make their own choices, it doesnt make them bad parents, and i just wanted to make a point of the possible pro's in getting a small child done, as weve heard the cons lol My cousin was about 9, and went to have her ears pierced. They got this freezing spray and within seconds she was screaming in pain. They left without having it done. The week later they went somewhere else, and they just used the gun, it was so quick and far less painfull. E x

I once saw a baby of a few days old with pierced ears. I was a student midwife visiting the Mum and baby at home. She was of African decent and had used a needle and thread so the baby had a thread dangling from it`s ears! How cruel. Rosalyn

on the bottle argument lol ! The only things a baby needs in its bottle are milk or water. Filling a babies bottle with anything else is damaging to teeth, and giving tea/coffee in a bottle has no benefit other than to make your child hyper, and reduce the child's absorption of nutrients from food. ((Contains tannin)) Even juices are damaging to teeth and should only be given with food and in a beaker (kids don't normally keep it in the mouth for long periods) or preferably an open cup. My two had only milk and water for ages. and very occasionally up to the age of five, juice if we were out somewhere. They still prefer water, although on occasions we have hot choc, or a cup of tea when its really cold. or if out round family or friends houses...always without sugar. Elaine x

If a kid doesn't have their ears pierced in the first place they can't be ripped out.

Tea and Coffee isn't the worst of it, my dad used to dip my dummie in whiskey to get me asleep! My mum always had a go at him! lol

Earrings can be later taken out and the holes closed if wanted to. Earrings will not affect the childs life unless some kid rips them out,,,then its the other kids fault, not the parents. <<<<<< wouldn't you feel some responsibilty as the parent for having had them pierced? I would!! what about if your child goes flying down the slide and rips them out - sue the council?

I do believe that some mothers have their young babies ears pierced as such a young age as the child accepts the earrings very quickly...whilst an older child may play with them etc. The earring gun fires in the earrings so quick its only a moments pain. And to be honest far less painfull than freezing which lasts up to a minute. As a baby under a year old normally sleeps on its back, there is little danger of laying on those sore ears, aiding healing. Jim Circumstision in boys for religious purposes as small babies (which i dont personally agree with) would have little bearing on their adult life and the need to sue anyone. They can have the same sex life with or without their bits. (my son was done for a medical reason) Female circumsticion is totaly wrong and yes they should sue. But neither is revelent and can be compared to ear piercing. Earrings can be later taken out and the holes closed if wanted to. Earrings will not affect the childs life unless some kid rips them out,,,then its the other kids fault, not the parents. I have pierced ears and do not feel damaged.

Tea and coffee in bottles! Realy? Goodness me. A friend at toddler group lets her son have coffee, about three mugs a day - age three. Seems mad to me when he's already a bit hyperactive and wont settle at night - oh, and she is worried because he wets the bed. Perhaps if she didn't feed him a dioretic (spelling?) he'd have a better odds.

Babies should be babies while they can. children grow up far too quickly as it is. I dont think they should have their ears pierced, wear shoes until they walk, be propped up in buggies before they can hold their head up, and my absolute pet hate DRINK TEA/COFFEE FROM A BOTTLE !!

I haven't read the replies, but I hope that when the babies grow up they will sue their parents like some American kids did about having been circumcised. I think it is disgusting to damage your children because of fashion.

Hi Limme, My reply is not aimed at anyone,,but in general young mothers with less than year old babies with piercings often than not..,,,,do it for the fashion aspect ....Because it looks cute!but it does inflict pain even with a piercing gun,,,, People in other countires do it as> cultral tradition>we dont have that tradition in this counrtry,,,,,and it was thought many moons ago that ear piercing help give you better eye sight.... kay,
