George is on life support he has an infection which he cannot fight because the drugs he takes to stop rejection mean his immune system is shot. He has internal bleeding. Please can we keep negative remarks to ourselves, it is in very poor taste at the moment. Gwynne

Im not saying alcoholics shouldnt get a new liver Every one deserves a second chance after all to change their ways. Just to not abuse that liver once its given to them. They often say, whats borrowed can be taken back. As said, my sympathy lies with the donors family, and georges family who are the true sufferers. Elaine x

Hi Helen, I posted having seen the latest news from the hospital I wasn't talking about previous messages. I just thought, given the current situation, futher negative messages were tasteless. Gwynne

can everyone please take a step back and re-read what Gwynne has posted ? 'George ... has an infection which he cannot fight because the drugs he takes to stop rejection mean his immune system is shot. He has internal bleeding.' This could happen to anyone who has a transplant, whether they drink or not. It's not being blamed on continued drinking accordign to all the reports I've heard/read - he is simply very ill, and deserves our compassion as much as anyone else. The last I heard, alcoholism was treated as a disease these days.

My thoughts are with the family of the person who's organs George has abused!! I know he's a legend and I hope his passing is painless, but this family will have to go through their loss twice.... i do hope they don't know its George who has the organs!!

God Bless you George, I pray that you pull through. You are not the first and you won't be the last to make promises to yourself , your loved ones, and others that can be hard to keep. With Love from Suzie, xxxxxxxxxxx

Despite alcohol not being the cause of his recent downfull, it HAS been several times before. and this is why people are cross...and rightly so. Putting a thread up about George best, was going to get mixed reactions. It did last time, and it will this time. as said my sympathy lies with the donors family, and georges family who are the true sufferers. and I wish george a painless passing, or hopefully a speedy recovery...for his families sake, and for his. I'm with Elaine..... George needed a donor Liver due to his abuse of alcohol affecting his own.... yes its an illness, but George has had more opportunity than most to overcome this illness and he chose not too! As a smoker would I expect new lungs if I damaged mine? Absolutely not!! Diana

Jesus wept. Remind me not to ask for any sympathy or empathy on this board should I need help coping with an addiction or fall ill with a related illness.

I do feel so sorry for everyone involved. Any illness is tragic whether self-inflicted or otherwise. People with ordinary lives fall prey to alchol abuse but think how easier it is for celebrities who are always partying to become a victim. Drug addicts can kick their habits and if they move in the right circles can avoid coming into contact with it again, but alchohl is widely available so I would asume harder to kick. God bless George Claire x
