Len None of us were there at the time. We all see the evidence, and draw different conclusions from that evidence, therefore I think the word 'suposition' was reasonable regards David

Paul I think religion and politics are topics which often arouse controversy and dissent. I do not feel very happy with the word 'spiritual' or 'religion' but I do attend a Quaker meeting from time to time. I like it because no one preaches, we pray/think in silence, unless someone feels the need to say something. It is very refreshing. But the idea that everyone in a particular church or building will all feel the same and agree about everything is absurd. The point of attending worship with others surely is to overcome the differences and be together in one's search for meaning. nell

What we perceive of the world, not to mention the universe, is just a tiny range of what there is. Our eyes are sensitive to just a very narrow band of a huge spectrum of radiation that includes radio waves, microwaves, x-rays, gamma rays, infra red and ultra violet light and beyond and all manner of electro-magnetic waves. Our ears pick up but a fraction of the sound that exists and we come a very poor second, in this respect, to our domestic pets. We are oblivious to things less than about a millimeter across, but tend to believe that what our puny senses do not perceive cannot possibly exist. Most people had difficulty in coming to terms with or even believing in bacteria until the fairly recent invention of the microscope. Even today, with some people, 'seeing is believing'. Len

Joy - what you saying? You're an alien?? (joke) I recently joined a group online which is meant to be multi cultural and religion. It had an oath thingy you were meant to follow, and it said 'You will follow the laws set by God' and I immediatly though 'Eh?' so much for multi faith!

As a child I had a constant spirit 'friend' ,hated this earth and to my mothers horror kept saying that I wanted to 'Go Home' A Great Aunt was a Clairvoyant and said that I was not the only one who felt that way and that one day we all would. I've been to churches all over the world and listened to differant beliefs. I know what I believe and it's not anything to do with human religious dictats. That some people have rare gifts .and are able to 'Tap into ' a source of power, is possibly something which we have lost over the years. After all it is not long ago that Australian Aborigines could send mental messahes over vast distances. There's more in Heaven and Earth than we can Imagine JaY

Len of the Chilterns

Len of the Chilterns Report 26 Nov 2005 23:28

I have never seen a ghost. I would like to do so. The word is from the archaic English for a spirit or entity. I have sensed the presence of things though and am aware that not all spirits are neutral; some are evil. I believe that some races of people are more sensitive to such things eg the Celts which include Irish, Welsh, some Scots, Basques (French & Spanish) and nomadic Romany’s; therefore it may be true to believe that having 'the gift' is an inherited trait. I must refresh my memory sometime but I believe these people arrived in what is now Europe from India before later waves of peoples (Germanics and Latinos, Slavs etc) originally from Africa, via the Middle East, who pushed the Celts to the western fringes of Europe. It has been hypothesised that the extinct Neanderthals who pre-dated the Celts, were a more spiritual hominid than the successful Cro-Magnons from whom we all sprang. They had larger brains (1700c against our 1600cc average) but less well-developed speech centres and may well have communicated more by telepathy. A deeper understanding of the paranormal may only be achieved by 'doing some'. To understand metaphysics (or philosophy, or law, or biology, or horticulture) it helps to study the subject and I would suggest that anyone aspiring to enter these discussions should do so. A course in meditation would be a good start. len

Hi Paul Unfortunately, whichever Spiritualist Church you go to they will pray. I have been to 2 different 'ones'. The first did not believe in Christ, but they did believe in the life everafter. They contacted the dead the same as the other Church. The 2nd Spiritualist Church does believe in Christ, and does have a cross on the alter. That is the only difference between the 2. Both get messages from the dead. If you go again, why not just bow your head, think your own thoughts, and let people believe what they want. Good luck, Granny

Hi Paul, I understand what your asking. I am not a Church goer any more .... but do believe there possible is a God, but more so believe that we have a 'Guardian'. I was forced to go to Church whilst I was a child ....... but not because I wanted to. I also have a keen interest in Spiritualism ( as you know from Lou's thread !) ........ and I did raise a similar question myself a couple of weeks ago, ..... not knowing WHAT to expect if I was to go to our local Spiritualist Church. I will one day go to our 'local' ... and grin and bear the 'Christian' way ......... and I WILL bow my head at least ... as this is what I have had drummed into me ! ...... 'even if you don't pray, you should bow your head in respect'. A very small price to pay I think, for the rewards. To answer your actual question, no I DON'T discuss/talk about religion / politics etc ! Elaine ;-)
