Trouble is by the time weve trawled through loads of simular member numbers, the baddie has done a runner lol ! Best thing to do is if you suspect a member is acting out of sorts, jot down the member number and if the post is abusive, mail abuse. I agree with Chunks, a petition is never listened to, besides its not always easy for GR to make such changes, after all, there are millions of members, not just us who frequent the boards !....imagine adding the member number to each boardname...phew ! I'm OK with that, as long as nothing happens with my number, I don't know, I'm not at all technical, and I can't see the pitfalls.....

Elaine, I don't think they'd do it manually lol P.x

Just read Steedie's mention of someone needing two email addresses to have two different account numbers, and thought I'd let you know that you don't need two! I have - legitimately - got two GR accounts, because I've got two family trees. They are BOTH assigned to my ONE email account, just got two different passwords. So I suppose anyone could have as many accounts as they liked on just one email address. Thought I'd point that out, maybe people don't realise that. Mandy :) PS: When I took a break at the end of last year, I rejoined with the same email address, so technically I've joined three times with the same email address. GR never questioned this; surely they have enough funds to tighten up on security and pick up on people using the same ISP over and over again?

HeatherinLeicestershire Report 9 Jan 2006 16:30

And as someone has already said, GR would link you with your ISP addy, so if you wanted to be sneaky, you would have to change your provider too. To much hassle if you ask me :) Heather

What have i missed? Has someone used a nasty name on the board?

Sue

Sue Report 9 Jan 2006 16:38

Mandy, I also have two accounts on one email address (I don't pay for one of them) I assume you could have as many as you wanted, and if you pay for them, post in as many names as you like. However much we pay for this, it would not be a lot of money if your hobby is causing bother! Suex

Mandy in Wiltshire Report 9 Jan 2006 16:41

Sue, yes that's exactly it! I would rather that GR questioned genuine people like you and me, than let troublemakers get away with it. Mandy :)

Sue

Sue Report 9 Jan 2006 16:50

Mandy, When I forgot the password to the account I don't use much, I wondered how I would find it out, having just the one e mail addy, I sent for a reminder, quoting the addy, the just sent me both of the passwords! Simple. Suex

I joined GR last year and didnt want to give out my personal details on the internet. i used my step sisters details and before i knew what i has done i was using her identity. i didnt think i was hurting noone until she joined the site. she realised what i ad done and i agreed to stay off the boards. i am sorry for what i did and she has forgived me. i havnt used my account to hurt noone and i wont be renewing i finish on 31st jan. it was not me causing trouble by swapping my name and i dont want no more emails from the person that thinks it was me. i wont be replying to any mail so please dont send it .thankyou.

Paul I'm confused - have you add another message from the woman who may or may not have been having a go at me the other night?

Unknown

Unknown Report 9 Jan 2006 17:16

Hi Jacqui It seems I was wrong and Karen wasn't Vixon999 - I'm told so by a few people. I did have a thread apologising so perhaps I ought to nudge it. Someone called Portia had an entry in her tree that offended a few people. Paul & someone else messaged her and Paul had a reply back from her that night. There were a couple of threads about it until someone very reasonable said that it was getting a bit witch-hunty so we all deleted - like most exciting things it was all over with very quickly lol. But I don't know if this is who has messaged Paul again. Sorry just read the thread properly amd realised it was her again.

Unknown Report 9 Jan 2006 17:20

David, Thats the impression I got too. I've also been led to believe that Vixon wasn't karen, but was in fact someone else we all know and love lol Paul
