Hi Merle As you know before 1837 it was all parish records. Which area are you looking for? Have you tried Family Search (the Latter Day Saints site)? Or have you tried the tips/records boards on here for advice? Or perhaps you could try Rootschat - all sorts of lovely helpful people on there and the site is arranged under counties. You can ask on there for help. PM me if you want more details. There are other Wattlers who are far more experienced than I am who may be able to offer better advice. Good luck Anna |

Morning...:>)) Another very warm day in Melbin.Getting up around 34 -35c today. Hot winds blowing, and me poor Vegie leaves are wilting. Some rain predicted, but the worst job in Melbin would have to be a weather forecaster. Off to daughter number 2 sometime today or to-morrow, as she has bought a Range Hood exuast for her stove, and yesterday whilst picking Sarah up from her house, she gave me the little girl puppy dog eye look. Dad......we bought a Range hood, and we got a quote to install it, and it will cost us nearly $200 to have it installed, and of course she knows exactly what I'm going to say..lol $200 bucks!!!!!!!!!!.......be buttered...:>)) Il'e install it for you for a cuppa coffee and a cuddle. They really know how to work there ol man, my girls.....lol But there kids, and they struggle, just like we did, so i try to help where possible. Yes, I'm amazed at the kids of today. If ya break there calculators and digital watches they would perish. I dont blame the teachers, but like you say Anna......its the teaching standard system. I was no road scholar at school myself, but i still knew how to count,( add & subtract ) if even just on my fingers. Whatever happened to problem solving..?? JudeDIY is away i think?..she did ask not to send her Emails on a post just near Xmas. Thanks for the pickles Tassie. Hope everyone has a great day. catcha ron.......when we win Lotto....hee hee Tony Oz.....:>))) |

~~~~~~~~~~~ morning everyone :) Well if I type fast it will still be morning!! OH, Son and DIL just left to visit the scene of the accident - hoping to jog son's memory. He is steadfastly refusing to wear his assorted casts and slings and his wife is at her wits end. MEN!!!! I told her to go back to work to have a break :) I will be away for a week from tomorrow - I'm assistant cook at a year 7/8 camp down the coast. Must be mad. :o Never done it before so should be fun. Son and DIL are moving back in with us for a week as they have a gap before they move to their next house sitting job. The next one is long term - and I think will take them to October with a break in the middle somewhere. trying to get a tidy house before I leave, so will look in later. Vonny |
I've bought the two girls (6 & 7) a kite. .. Does anyone remember the kites we used to hassle our Dad's to make, and even tried to make ourselves. .. The thinnest of dowling, brown paper, flour and water and yards of string, oh yes, little bits of rag tied in knots all the way down the string. .. What fun we had. I'm looking forward to kite flying again in Bendigo - watching it dance from side to side. .. Must be the kid in me lol .. Still life in this ole girl yet! (Actually it brings back to mind my girlfriend and I flying kites somewhere in the Flinders Ranges when we were camping - and our kids were all grown up too!!!) Jood |
Morning all. Tony how did YOU guess I was psychic (tee hee) .. *taps side of nose* .. I jest know these things! Fanny - dying to hear further developments!! Laurie, say hello to Fluffy from me. I'm amazed that kids can't do simple mental arithmetic, and that they can't count money up correctly (Gwenda) - it does say little for the education system. Like you Laurie, I have often proffered the coins with the notes to make things easier for them, and they look at me confused!!!! .. Whilst these new fangled tills show the amount of change to give, (and is correct) - it makes peeps brain lazy. .. I mentally work out the change myself sometimes,(if they are not using those sorts of tills) just to make sure I'm getting the right change. Doesn't do any harm to exercise the old brain occasionally. About 45 days to Mudgee now. But first Lew does her t to the Ank Arkick, and I do mine (to Bendigo) Hey - come to think of it - we haven't heard from Jude DIY for aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages - where's are you Jude? Jood |
Good morning, good morning JA - you sure got the jump on all of us this morning but I had to rescue us from page 3 Caught up on the news from where I left off last night. Tony - I'd believe that - I am constantly dumbfounded by this generation with counting. No wonder our stocktakes are always so out - how basic is counting and they can't get that right so what hope of anything else. You should see how they count their money at the end of the day - we get $10 & $20 notes in amongst the $50s because that will make an even number. Mental arithmetic doesn't exist at all - I can have an answer in a couple of seconds while they are still thinking about it - education standards have definitely dropped since we were at school. Off my soap box Tassie - thanks for the piccles - the sand surfing looked a lot of fun. Have a great day peeps - glorious looking here at mo but going to get HOT - yuck. Off to work in an hour or so, catchya later Gwenda |
Good evening Wafflers . . . Another lovely day in Queensland . . . we had a few showers early in the day - but the rest has been dry and not too hot. TLR has been busy outside doing odd jobs, and I have been busy inside slowly getting my house back. I have had colour charts out trying to decide what colours to use in the repaint job - still none the wiser. Thanks for the pics Tassie . . . Lovely! I have a snake story too . . . this morning while walking down the back paddock looking for my little Tawny Frogmouth family, I wasn't looking where I was treading - looking up in the trees . . . and yes, I looked down just in time to see the darn thing before I stepped on a rotten brown. Luckily it was more frightened than I was and it retreated into the scrub at a great rate of knots. I have been looking down everywhere I walked since! The old heart was in the mouth! For goodness sake Lew . . . let the poor man win something will you . . give 'Humble, Voodoo Tony' the pills to look after, so he can tell Barcode he is a winner too !!!! Just make sure he knows the difference between the lovely coloured ones and the VB ones he usually clings to. LOL I know what you mean with the change Tony . . . so often when I give say a $20 note and 35cents if the total is $15.35 I get the blank stare. Very interesting coincidence there Yvette . . . like Tony said I would be doing a double check on the house. Jood, we plan to leave here on Thursday next week - Ray doesn't have to be at the office until 15th, but we have a few places to call into on the way south. (you guessed it - more cemeteries) We are going up to stay at Glen's house for the weekend so TLR can help him with his fence, I hope to spend some time with Ducky as I have no intention of doing any fencing. Time I was off to bed so will see you when I see you Thanks for the Lotto Lew & Tony Nigh nite - sleep well - sweet dreams luv Laurie |
Night all Thanks Tassie for the pickles - brought back memories for me seeing Wineglass Bay. Sad to see the damage the fires did. And thanks Lew Lew and Tony for the Lotto. Here's hoping! Oh Queenie - I didn't know you spoke in many tongues - how very royal of you! Tony, I'm not surprised about the change at Hungries - it's a sad reflection on our education system. See ya all tomorra X Anna |
Thanks Tony and Jood too I was trying to find another woman who my FIL commited bigamy with trying to find another half brother of Tigers, who probably still doesn't know that the five kids here ever existed as he married her the son was born then apparently he took off ,so we don't know what happened to this bloke at all. I have a copy of the marriage cert and the son's birth cert too but just wondered if they would be on IGI etc and we could contact the descendants of him or him if he is still with us he was born in 1937 and could well be alive , love Lara |
Yvette. Thats quite an interesting story mate, for this person to be living in the same house as your Dad and Nan, and now possible a connection. Although, you say...she seems to be connected. I would look a bit further into this, as it seems uncanny for her to be living in the same house as your own family. Bit spooky, if ya ask me.......but then again, not impossible i surpose? Id'e be pumping for more info on how she is related to your side. Tony Oz....:>)) |
We stopped at Hungry Jack's for a burger on the way home, and couldnt believe what i saw/heard. I ordered at the counter, and a young girl served me ( about 16 years old )....the total came to $12.35.......so i gave her $15 bucks. Her till stuffed up, or went on the blink or something. hi all , thanks for the lotto, the lotto list and the piccies from sue. i wanna go to tassie! been working hard in reasonable sized efforts. have even used the gym stuff in my break. my butt aches and i've got indigestion from Miles steamed dim sims. have been fishing 2 x today and i've still got sand in all the spaces. went shopping and haven't put it away. my question is family history related. i write to a person who it seems is connected to both sides of my dads family. she is quite chuffed because a a similar story on her side. this comes from a fair way back, but we share quite a few relos without being close. romany side. this week my darling cousin, who i've met once, confirmed my nans address. my dad lived there when he was a kid, my -parents lived there when i was born, my nan lived there until her death mid 70's. suprise - the person I write to, also lived there until 15 years ago. do you think its coincidence or would it futher confirm a relationship? am waiting to hear from her and get some piccies. i had sent her one of myself as a baby in the lounge room, not realising it was the newbies house! think it may have been a council house , but not sure. so i have been doing f/h, just getting impatient waiting for replies. love Yvette x |
Hi Lara. A round off figure would be about mid to late 1940s. Also depends on what County or Village if you mean the U.K........and if its been entered into the I.G.I A marriage or birth like, say..... Mary SMITH....Mary JONES or Mary BROWN *common forenames and surnames........region British Isles...... Country England..........will give you a marriage listed on the I.G.I up to 1946. Best i can help mate, unless someone else can help a bit more. Tony Oz..:>))) * eating a Chocky Ice cream * |
