Thanks Tony, It's my mum and dad's wedding cert. I always thought my dad's dad died when he was a boy but looking at their cert. today it suddenly struck me that my g.dad's name and occ. was on it, didn't say deceased after his name either, so if perhaps he was still alive in 1938 no wonder I can't find any trace of his death in the Irish indexes in the time frame I've been trolling through . Should I post the question on the tips board do you think, sorry to keep asking. Jillx

TonyOz Report 17 Oct 2006 08:31

Hi Jill. Not necessarily....but....... in most cases at the very end of a marriage cert. it states: Fathers name/Surname......Rank or proffesion of father. Here you might find.....eg: William SMITH farmer/labourer deceased, or just William SMITH deceased. Also depending if both couples were of age ( 21 )..and year/century of course......Its pot luck really mate..but there is no provision for it on the Cert.( normally ) My great grandparents ( both 23 & 20 ..age ) marriage cert 1864 England shows. When married: Name and Surname: Age: Condition: Rank or Profession: Residence at the time of Marriage: Fathers name and Surname: Rank or Profession of father: **************************************** My G,G, Uncle, Henry Williamson marriage cert aged 24...in 1896 England......where it says.......... 'Fathers Name and Surname' it says: Humphrey Williamson......under that is says in brackets ( deceased ). Might be a good idea to ask a Brit.also Jill. Perhaps Joy ( Maid Marion ) or Honey Rum or even the Cat ( Julie )..just to make sure. Tony Oz..:>))

Afternoon all, Tony you may be able to help me with this one. On British wedding certs. if the father of the groom or bride is deceased would it say so. Donna sorry to hear you are still having so much pain, are you sure some of Dr.Lew's pills wouldn't help? some nice purple ones off the top shelf. I'm hoping to see Pam and her family tomorrow, if I am able to speak with her I will tell her how much she is in all our thoughts and prayers. Luv Jillx

Afternoon all :) I lied - won't be on tonight, forgot I was going out this evening!!! Lots of clouds and looked hopeful but no rain :( Going down to Sussex first week in November - looking forward to it soooo much. The Boat has had three coats of varnish and is getting the last one tonight. Will send a pickle when it is finished. Got to do the washing up - no dishwasher yet :( BUT we sold the old car the kid's were using for $400 so that has almost covered the excess for the one the tree branch fell on!! SO - maybe I can get a dishwasher soon after all :) Love to all, Vonny

Ooooooooh, I’ve just had a visitor !!!! Mary and John send greetings to everyone, they have just been to see me here in Albury, and I’ve SEEN the NUGGET !! lol Mary will need a dissecting kit to share it out amongst all wattlers though!! We had a lovely chat , they should be home tomorrow night. Mary wanted to remind all the Victorians that the Weekly Times Pioneer series is still going and that there will be a disc available at the end of the series for genealogists, I should know what its all about but I keep selling out of Weekly Times and so I don’t – perhaps its Victorian BDM’s I can’t quite remember!! I think you mentioned it before too Lara. Mary has got some very interesting info for you Lara, she was so pleased to be able to get somewhere with the names you gave her. Anna I did have a giggle about your having to concoct vampire blood for the girls film making exercise – how did they go? Sounds like you are run off your feet atm –isn’t it the way, everything happens at once. Tony, Shazz, pmsl you take the cake with your jokes. DIYJude you are a marvel, the wattlers birthday party sounded really great fun and I’m glad the hot blustery weather had passed by then, don’t know that I like having February in October. Can’t stay today I’m afraid, and I’ve still got a few pages to read too. (((Ducky))) hope all goes well tomorrow. Hope everyone else is well, ~~~~ to All, Hz

Afternoon everyone Hope all is going well Tassie - at least you can type if your mouth is sore! Bit overcast and windy here today but no rain. Our tank arrived this morning and you will all be peased to know that the crane lifted it over the house without any nasty mishaps. Now we just have to wait for the plumber to connect it up! And then we need rain! I think the plumber will get here before the rain going on weather patterns lately. Busy week - Katherine has either choir or orchestra performances tonight, Wed night, and Friday night. Saturday afternoon, both her choir and stage band are performing at our local shopping mall for family week. And I'm working tomorrow and Thursday so it's just like old times before I retired! Trouble is I'm getting to need nanny naps so hope I don't fall asleep on the job! Shazz - Chris and I keep giggling over that joke - what a hoot! Very quiet on here again today - where is ya Jood? Hugs to you Fluff - hope arrangements are progressing smoothly. Shall look in again later XX Anna

Morning all . . . tis Tuesday in Melbourne, and looking like a pretty good day. Sunny with a gentle breeze - but like I said its Melbourne so still 3 more seasons to have today. Shaz, the apartments are really great . . . so big, and everything here . . . just the housekeeping that is letting the side down. We have another day of being the tourist today, still lots of things on the map that haven't been ticked off !!! We tried the little Italian joint close by here for dinner last night, 'Florin' really lovely food - folks on the river cruise told us they had tried and liked, so seeing as how it was close by thought we would give it a go . . . most impressed with the meal, prices were very reasonable, and although not the swishiest place in town, quaint might do for a description. Sue, probably missed you, but will be thinking about you . . . Donna, hope your stating to get a little relief from the medication. For all . . . a little wattle magic dust headed for you all to bring you comfort . . I am being hurried so best get off here. . . cheers luv Laurie
