Lew lew & Mary - Strange you should mention Lanarkshire being Irish - coz I have some born in Lanarkshire, and further back, from Ireland. Tony - reason I asked you about the Uk (it was a typo by the way, I meant England lol) was that a netpal of mine in Nottingham who I was talking to this morning - said you are quite welcome to stay at her place freeeeeeeeeeeee. She's a widow and a ball of fun. Loves her nightly red wine tipple. I wasnt sure if you were just going up north this time. She said she'd show you around, although on some days she'd have commitments (bowls, usually). Jude 3 - you were clever to work out how many parts you were - one part scottish, 2 parts something else pmsl I know Im one part Canadian, but I wouldnt know how to divide up the English, Scottish and Irish ancestors !!! <I'm very proud of my one part Canadian ..... grin > Do you know our Sydney Anzac Parade lasted for 3½ hours. I missed Laurie though ..... :-(( Mary, I do wish thems would stop talking about Yarrawonga when they know it upsets us ,,,,,:-(( Never mind mate - we will all go to the Casino and gorge ourselves on - what was it Sandra? lol I may even miss out on the Qld one ............... sob! Afternoon Wattlers, Hope you had a good morning, I caught up on the ironing while watching the march, missed seeing Laurie tho. Joodles yes i'm a bit sad can't go to Yarra, the lunch at casino sounds good when we can get there, just love those ( you know what's) lol I thought you were all mad at first talking about Farkles ect what a hoot. All the talk of Scotland brought to mind about the time I spent there as a 15/16 yr old as a nanny's maid,worked for the Wills tobacco people who had a holiday house in Fort William,anyway the cook who was young and single used to try and carry on with the Italian butler oh the shenagins I was only there a month, got homesick and went back to London. To all the Diggers and their families have a good ANZAC DAY, LEST WE FORGET Sorry Lizzie been a little busy travelling to Wonthaggi a long way from home to for hubby to march with some of his mates , please come back a again and say hello after this weekend mate as the meetup is this wekend at my hometown and we are going to have ripper of a weekend , sorry I was not around to introduce Liizy to you all she is my newest some sort of cousin who lives in Wales Lizzie is from the Stockers my 3xgreat grandmother was Ellen Stocker from Devon who married George Greening and came to Australia in 1862 arriving in Warrnambool Victoria my first family to arrive here on my Dad's side , LIzzie actually found me , so asked her to call in and say hello , but slightly busy here at the moment, Welcome Ella Rose love your part of the world too we stayed ar the time share at Mandurah when we did the big one in the van and after 15 weeks in the 17ft van was sure ready for the luxury of the time share resort we parked the van outside for a week and explored the surrounding towns its lovely there love the movie theatre resturants and board walk area we went on a cruise around the canals I bet since then its grown too it was in 2000 I think when we were there after Mandurah I was lucky enough to get another weeks time share and we stayed at Bunbury at for another week . I have to go now folks as the umpires are killing collingwood and have to go toTV and yell at the white Maggots to get it right B****dy Idiots bye for now see some of you soon hehe and will talk to you all tomorrow

Hullo Lizzy Welcome to the wattle (waffle) thread! My Dad came here from Wales in 1925 when he was 18. He was from Penarth near Cardiff. I still have cousins living there and visited them in 2000. I want to go back again so I can visit the old mining towns where my Dad's family originally came from - Aberdare, Pontypridd, Merthyr Tydfil etc. The family came to Wales from Herefordshire - around Kington. What part of Wales are you from? Come back and talk to us again Cheers Anna

Lara If Lizzy is your cousin she is doubly welcome.. Any cousin of Laras is a cousin of ours...LOL We adopt all cousins... Wish I was comming this weekend but perhaps next time.. Will miss you all and remember absent friends when you are grogging on...LOL Sandra and Joodles.. Hi All No I havent dropped of the face of the earth, I have tried to catch up on the last couple of days, but I thought by the time I read about 6 pages I will have to get off here again for someone else to have a go. It is still easter holidays here for schools, they go back tomorrow as does David, so I will have house to myself again and also the puta. Morning everyone :-) Firstly I know I'm probably a bit late but Happy Anzacs Day :-) Lew I will gladly take you up on your offer when I sort a few things out (like my tree lol). Lizzy and Ella welcome but I feel I should warn you that if you want to keep your sanity I should say now........... RUN FOR THE HILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PMSL.................. especially from that Rebs and Lew Lew hehe ;-ppp Lew Lew about the Mugadee meet, I would love to but I'm only just able to afford to go to stay with Jilly in Scotland for the weekend in August then I want to save and take the kids on holiday next year so unless I win the lottery it's not going to happen :-(((. Laurie I missed the Mary Bryant unfortunately but bet it was good.........ah well tv over has a habit of repeating things so I'll probably catch it some other time. Tony enjoy your holiday and if you go near Falkirk wave to Lemon, or Fife wave to Jilly lol Anna I'm doing an access to further education course which is GCSE level and consists of a bit of this and a bit of that lol. Mostly at the moment it's psychology and sociology plus an English GCSE. From September I wnt to do the access to higher education course where I'll concentrate on the humanities side of things ie history and classics which interests me more than the social sciences. Hair is still straight lol.........luckily enough it stays that way for a couple of days so I don't have to use straighteners everyday :-) Has anyone seen Trifley or is she still partying on her barge :-). Was wondering because I was watching the English version of Gladiators last night and one of the gladiators reminds me of her description of Nefer. Loved the descriptions about the farkles.......why is it I can see Rebs chasing them lol One day you'll all have to tell me the names of the football teams you support and their nicknames so I can keep up with you football talk lolol Well the suns gone awol around here. Well its Anzac Day 2006 in Sydney, the lovely Ray crept out and left me asleep for the dawn service, I didn't surface until he got back at about 6.50am. We had a quick breakkie and headed into the city. I think I should give up going in Anzac Day marches, I'm a 'blubberer' - but then I used to be like when the band was playing at normal weekly parades way back when - so nothings changed! But I am a proud Aussie, and I carry tissues! How incredible it is to march, with all those people waving, cheering you on . . I used to think I had no place there, but a letter in the Navy newspaper a few years ago changed my perspective . . . and it is great to catch up with old friends that I only see once a year (even our old ma'am dragon) . . . . So many thank you signs, The entertainers were a highlight, specially Smokey Dawson, God love him . . . Dick Smith standing there on the corner near the Queen Victoria Building with a big Thank You sign - and he points to everyone individually - though I'm guessing his fingers would have been sore by the end of the march. We (being the superior service . . . NAVY) were at the front of the march, behind the tribute to the missing WW1 diggers, it started to rain as we approached Town Hall, but nothing too heavy - was all gone by the time we got to Hyde Park. I marched with the WRANS and Ray marched with HMAS Perth - two units behind us. The march started at 9am, and finished just short of 1pm - being in the early crowd to go through, we were able to then stand with the other grateful and cheer those behind us. It was very emotional, as I kept thinking about my uncles that didn't return from WW11, about my grandma Kate, and the pain she must have gone through, and about my Dad who never missed an Anzac Day march. I think today, I finally got it - I know why it was so important to him, I know why he was so involved in starting up the RSL club in Cobar - I am ashamed that I never commiserated with him that he lost 2 brothers and a b-i-l - especially think looseing his baby brother would have been so painful - Uncle Geoff, who was a navigator in a Lancaster shot down over Germany, he was only 20yrs old - twelve years younger than Dad. While we were standing watching the march go past, we saw a special young man - friend of Oni's son from out at West Wyalong, he is on HMAS Kanimbla, so we yelled and waved at him, - and it is special - because my Dad was in a special Army unit attatched to the Navy and he spent a lot of time on the old Kanimbla - he was up in the crows nest when it was torpedoed, he fell crashing through the deck, received injuries that stayed with him the rest of his life. The bands were fantastic, and they do such a mighty job, most go around three or four times. The Scots have a wonderful tradition - after the march they all march back to Martin Place and have their own wreath layer ceromony, its amazing, about 200 bagpipes, and the same number of drummers. We have a dear old friend heavily involved - he was a flag bearer today so we stayed behind to watch and enjoy that. We then went for social afternoon at the Brighton RSL, and have only just returned, and no Mary, I was only drinking lemon, lime & bitters ! So ends another Anzac Day, 'May those who are left to grow old, have our gratitude and the peace that we wish for those who are resting' . . . . luv Laurie

Laurie I saw the tribute to the diggers, but I didnt realise that was your corps behind them, I thought all the WW2's came through first, and of course I had no idea who Ray was marching with ............... awww ..... sorry - I ended up watching all 3 almost 4 hours of the march !!! If I'd known what I know now, I would have watched the news with particular interest. I got emotional again tonight on the news ........... I'm sooooo proud to be an aussie. ..... So proud of the men who lost their lives for their country. I also watched the gallipoli ceremony and the Kokoda Trail ceremony.. It is sooo nice that the younger generation are coming to appreciate what the fellows did for us. Well thats all from me tonight Jood

Don't believe everything they tell you on this thread..........the parties on the Royal Barge are quite refined. It's not my fault our pommie friends want to drink, eat, have massages and oigle(sp) men. The last party started out as a quiet little affair but it ended up I had to invent 6 brothers for Nefer. Now I have 7 Nubian man servants and I don't know what to do with them..........( sighs with a small smile on face). Hi Mary.......Pookaka.......sounds exotic. Do I need one? Do you wanna swap one for a brother? Aaahh.......The pipes, the pipes are calling............Laurie............there is nothing more stirring than a pipe band. I love the pipes. The march must have been wonderful to see. And, as usual, you have managed to describe it in such a way that I could almost think I was there. Thanks. The shed..............it's finished....yaaayyy! Mark & I did a bit of prep work yesterday and he & Graeme got to it early this morning. After I finished the washing I took over from Mark at lunch time when he went to golf and I carried on after Graeme went to work at 3pm. I finished all the fiddly bits........clips, screws, shelves, door knob and (of course!) as is the job of the labourer................cleaned up afterwards. Tools, extension lead, drill, ladder, tressle, broom and all the cardboard, styro-foam, tape, plastic bags and sundry other rubbish. Then a quick shower, the ironing and collapsed on the lounge with a small sherry. Just a usual sort of day. I think I might have a early night tonight and try to read some more of my book. To all my wonderful cyber friends.....Rebs, Joodles, Lara, Jude3, Vonny (I know, she's away!), SuzyQ, Donna and...another CRAFT moment, sorry to all those I forgot,.......a big ~~~~wave from me sitting here on the Royal Barge.
