You're welcome here any time Julie Cat. There's a Mudgee Meet next Feb, so keep that in mind. If you need any Ancestry lookups, please let me know, 'cause I subscribe and love to research other peoples trees, only because when I hit a brick wall in mine, it eases the pain! Spend a fair amount of time in the Records Office and Trying To Find just mucking around, so let me know if you need a hand. Hey, and that goes to all you guys out there, too. Only too pleased to help. Lew Lew (67 sleeps, 9 Fridays!!!) xxx

Evening Waffling Wattlers . . . Well we had a sunny but cooler day her today, those giraffes are pretty idle, had 9 heads skywards today, the breeze I will call a wind, as I'm sure did those nuts on the kiteboards. Plenty of jumping and diving and bobbing to watch as I sunned with the cuppa on the balcony. Alice in Rebeland, or McAlice in Rebeland or Alice in McRebeland . . . . well done! Glad my late night ravings were an inspiration to someone - didn't do much for me - was getting frustrated - can't find what I really wanted to find on 41! Julie Cat - - - those of us that have a convict in our tree are very proud of them I'll have you know . . Did you watch Mary Bryant - was on tellie in Uk last week I believe - - them that survived, did it tough! Gwenda, all this talk of getting sorted has me on a run too - never know I might just get there!! Have found lots of things today that I forgot I had. I've ended up with stuff everywhere - think I should have stuck to cleaning windows too Suzy Q Joodles, you are allowed to change your name - just leave the Joodles in there somewhere! I think maybe the Trifle has too much grog in it . . . . the cakes gone all soggy !!!! Nice to see you back Cilla - hope you can make it to Brisvegas on 10th - be lovely to catch up with you. Oh Jude TA . . . the joys of being a parent to the broken hearted - our eldest had love of his life give him back the ring just before the marriage and she married someone else a few weeks later . . . two years ago . . . he still doesn't trust - I could pull her hair out a million times for the damage she did! I know, better that she didn't go thru with marriage, I never did want her for a daughter, but she could have done it better and sooner! Tony, I think you'll find that Von has laready left home, and plans on buying the Lotto when she gets to Yarrawonga so Lara can show her how to do it - might have to scan on Laras puter and get them off from there !!! Your description of the cockys in the tree brought pictures of 'The rains are 'er' that corn add !!!! Well it will be dawn service down at the Brighton RSL in the morning for us, followed by the march in town - so look out for me too Lew - marching with the Ex-Wrans. Made my Anzac bickies today . . . Hi Lara - wondering what you were up to c u there !!! cheers for now all luv Laurie

Evening Wattlers, hope everyone is fit and well....make that just well, we can't all be fitness freaks. Much cooler here as well, heating is on FOOTY is on GO THE SAINTS. Tomorrow is my weekend, so plan to get some time on the puta to search for dead peeps. Anyone got a good site for finding deaths at sea in the 1800's? This relly (that i met at the cemetary last week) has put doubts in my mind re which Charles Maynard died on the way here, son or father. B****y woman, i felt quite sure i had it pegged, now need to prove i am right he he. I read through most of the last couple of days of thread, ...love catching up on whats happening, but then am too worn out to add much. I also seem to spread papers around me that i just want to check something on before filing :-))). Ok have to go, almost time for this tired old bird to go to bed. Take care all

hello everyone I'm here all by my lonesome. OH still in Melbourne and daughter has gone on a music camp to Western Queensland. (Mitchell, Charleville, Quilpie) They are performing at the Anzac Day Ceremony in Mitchell tomorrow and doing performances and work shops at various Western schools. However - she had to be at school at 600am and I was terrified we'd oversleep so I set the alarm clock, she set the alarm on her mobile phone and just to make sure ....I got a Telstra wake up call! Yes we did wake up in time! Got to school, unloaded the suitcase, 4 X2litre bottles of water which they each had to bring, hand luggage, flute, music and loaded her into lthe bus and waved goodbye. When I got home I found all her sleeping gear on the back seat - air mattress, sleeping bag etc. I am distraught - don't know what she's going to sleep on for the next 3 nights. How stupid are both mother and daughter to forget the sleeping bag!! Went mad and had a beautiful curry Dad's Pie for tea - yum! Settlement on son's house happened today - thank goodness it's all over. I'm bearing the scars from the big clean up - managed to burn my hand when I was cleaning the oven, scratch my arm on a rose bush when I was weeding the garden, ram a splinter under my finger nail when I was picking up rubbish and there is skin off in various places for which I have no explanation! This old duck is pluddy exhausted - will sleep the sleep of the righteous tonight! I am so jealous of you all going to Yarrawonga. Hope you have a fabulous time. I'll be waiting for the piccies on the net. Nice to hear from you Sandra and Cilla and hope you have both fully recovered. Jude2 - your trip must have been great. Popping over to Paris for the day sounds so blase! I loved Edinburgh - the Edinburgh Fesitival and the Military Tattoo were on whilst we were there in 2000 and we enjoyed both. Didn't get to the underground city though - it sounds fascinating. Sorry to hear about your daughter - my eldest son was in a relationship for 5 years and the girl who I loved dearly met someone else. Son was absolutely devestated - I was really worried about him and I felt a real sense of loss also. Funny thing was that later when my son was diagnosed with cancer, she was there for him as a friend and was so supportive. After David's death, she eventually married the other guy (at Dalkeith in Scotland) and I still keep in touch with her. And the really crazy thing is that when I got the book from our family reunion, I discovered that her husband and I are descended from the some great great grandparents!! The David Hack Classic Meet, a showcase for classic cars and planes which Toowoomba North Rotary Club organize each year in memory of my son with proceeds going to the Leukaemia Foundation and Blue Nurses is on this weekend at the Toowoomba Airport so that is where I will be on Sunday. Hi Julie - what course are you doing at college? Psychology sounds interestting - though challenging! If you want any hair product, hair straighteners, etc etc my daughter has a cupboard full of them! As Rebs says, hair product accounts for a goodly proportion of the supermarket bill! Trifley - that barge of yours is beginning to sound like a floating brothel!! I was tempted to climb aboard but I'm so pooped I would have been a real wet blanket. Although I could have benefited from a therapeutic massage! And och aye lassie MacReb (sounds like a new Macdonald's ham burger) - got a little bit of scotch in you? Eh eh nod wink etc etc!! Look out for the farkles if you go back to the auld country - we were going to go farkling when we staying on the moors but we didn't get up early enough. You can only catch them early in the morn when the mist is still heavy on the highlands. Lew - I don't see you as the domesticated little wife making Anzac bikkies - there's always one more prickle to the porcupine! That Vonny has done a runner - hopefully Lara will get her organized with the lotto entry. Hi Laurie - thanks for the giggle - willl watch out for you in the Sydney Anzac Day March on the telly. Please wave to me as you go past. Sounds as if the organisation at Anzac Cove is much improved this year - thank goodness. I've been trying to think of that song - I was only sixteen - about a soldier. I think John Williamson or Lee Kernighan sing it . I wish I could find it as the words are beautiful. I've tried googling but all I can get is Dr Hook's 'She was only 16'!! Not quite the thing. Hi Joodles, Mary, Tony, Shazz, Suzy Q, Wilson, any other Judies around, Devly - where the devil are you - you've gone quiet - and anyone else that my addled brain has missed. I'm off to bed to rest my weary bones Luv Anna

Lol Anna, the song is 'I was only 19' by Redgum. Mum and Dad and Denny saw the passing out parade at Puckapunyal, (1t was long march from cadets). The Sixth Battalion was the next to tour and it was me who drew the card… We did Canungra and Shoalwater before we left. And Townsville lined the footpath as we marched down to the quay; This clipping from the paper shows us young and strong and clean; And there's me in my slouch hat, with my SLR and greens… God help me, I was only nineteen. From Vung Tau riding Chinooks to the dust at Nui Dat, I'd been in and out of choppers now for months. But we made our tents a home, VB and pin-ups on the lockers, and an Asian orange sunset through the scrub. And can you tell me, doctor, why I still can't get to sleep? And night time's just a jungle dark and a barking M16? And what's this rash that comes and goes, can you tell me what it means? God help me, I was only nineteen. A four week operation, when each step could mean your last one on two legs: it was a war within yourself. But you wouldn't let your mates down 'til they had you dusted off, so you closed your eyes and thought about something else. Then someone yelled out 'Contact'', and the bloke behind me swore. We hooked in there for hours, then a God almighty roar; Frankie kicked a mine the day that mankind kicked the moon: - God help me, he was going home in June. 1 can still see Frankie, drinking tinnies in the Grand Hotel on a thirty-six hour rec. leave in Vung Tau. And I can still hear Frankie lying screaming in the jungle. 'Till the morphine came and killed the bloody row And the Anzac legends didn't mention mud and blood and tears, and stories that my father told me never seemed quite real I caught some pieces in my back that I didn't even feel… God help me, I was only nineteen. And can you tell me, doctor, why I still can't get to sleep? And why the Channel Seven chopper chills me to my feet? And what's this rash that comes and goes, can you tell me what it means? God help me, I was only nineteen. return to Portrait - The Very Best of John Schumann

Bless you MacReb I was only a few years out! But some of the boys did put their ages up so they could go to war so he could have been only 16. The words to that song are very moving. You should post it on the Anzac Day thread Rebs. Redgum, John Williamson, Lee Kernighan - I knew it was someone like that!! XX Anna

Dear MacRare ribs Farkles: They are native to Scotland - they have 1 short front leg and two longer back legs so that they can climb around the mountain slopes easily. You catch them with a farkling stick - something like a shepherd's crook. Surprised Reb that you haven't heard of them. XX Anna
