Hi everyone Update Multi blood tests done last week Results today: Lipids fine Diabetes = borderline to be controlled by diet (great as I still can't loose any weight) Thyroid = a drop in my levels as predicted, retest in 2 months I now have extremely painful joints and difficulty with mobility especially in the mornings, getting dressed is a juggling act and takes ages until I have loosened up. I now have another Dr appointment next Friday to see if I need blood tests to check for rheumatoid arthritus? I am wondering if all these issues point to a viral debilitation like fibromyalgia? Hope everyone else reading this is coping at present. Regards Linda :o)

Hi All Had a blood test a couple of weeks ago now, and as hadn't heard otherwise assumed I was to carry on a taking 50mcg of thyroxine, (my doctor's normally very good, at phoning up if i need to make appointment if my blood tests show anything different). I had to put a repeat prescription in - which I picked up yesterday, good job i looked close My thyroxine dose has been increased to 100mcg a day now. No wonder I was still feeling tired. No energy and my get up and go non exixtant. Joints still ache etc etc My blood test must have shown levels still low. At least my diabetic tables etc have not changed. Regards Liz

I am undergoing test to see whether i have a underactive thyroid gland. I have periods where i feel so tired, cant even get out of the bed until 10, i can feel like this for days. This has been going on for several months, i get bouts of real tiredness, in between this is still feel tired just not as bad. went to doctors on monday as i couldnt get up with the kids, told her how i was feeling, she said that she would test for underactive thyroid. She did not give to much info only said it could explain the tiredness, gainin weight, i have been trying to eat healthy to loose weight, but no diets seem to work. Doctor signed me off work this week, get results tomorrow. how reliable is the blood test, as i;m sure it will come back negative, as the doctor usually shrugs it off with general tiredness, the only way i can describe; it is as if i am walking in snow/mud with wellingtons on, every step seems to ache all over.

Hi Everyone Just thought I would put in my two pennyworth about Thyroid Problems. I have had an underactive Thyroid for 3 years now and it took 3 doctors to find a decent level of Thyroxine for me. I have regular blood tests about every 6 weeks now to make sure it is ok. I am on 100mg of Thyroxine Monday to Friday and 50mg on Saturday and Sunday. My level now seems to be OK for the time being. I get achy joints and have trouble sleeping I also get very tired easy and I feel the Heat something chronic. Living in Australia doesn't help as it get's pretty hot here. I have also got Bursitis in my left hip area and I was told by the Physio that it could be caused with Thyroid problems it seems the Thyroid Gland controls most of your body. My friend that lives over the other side of Australia recently sent me an email regarding her Thyroid problem. It seems she has been to a specialist recently this was what he said and I quote: (((((The condition you have is called Hypothyroidism and causes heat sensitivity and perspiring more than normal. difficulty tolerating hot weather, fatigue weakness to upper arms and thighs. My advice to you is to try the RADIOIODINE ABLATION tablet which kills the Thyroid. After that you would need to have a Hormone replacement tablet daily for the rest of your life.))))) She also said that you had to stay away from small children for a week after taking this tablet. I have never heard of it personally but I am going to ask my Gp about it next time I go to see him. Has anyone else heard of it??? KInd Regards Jackie

I often get worried when any problems I have get put down to the fibromyalgia, doc nevers seems concerned about the weight I have put on, I had to ask for my blood pressure to be taken last time I was in surgery, as it is never checked, think I might change doctors.

Will be thinking about you this afternoon!! I've only just come across this thread & a lot of it rings true for me!! I remember when I switched Dr's a couple of years ago having a blood test. I told the nurse I was feeling tired all the time & had issues with my weight. I was put onto iron tablets as I was slightly anaemic. They told me I was borderline under-active thyroid. I have put on approx 2 stone since last summer but have put that down to other health issues but reading the list of symptoms am now having second thoughts. I'm seeing my Dr soon and may ask to be tested again!! BTW - I was told by a friend who has thyroid problem that if it goes undetected for a long period of time that you can develop mental health problems & that's why back in Victorian times 'Lunatic Assylums' were so full!! Has anyone else heard this??

i have had over active thyroid twice which then went under. mine kicks off in pregnancy. i lost about four stone whilst pregnant, looked very ill. Had twins and everybody was amazed as always rushing around, never tired etc, came back to live near parents and family member made me go to doctors, hence thyroid problem. get tested every year now and i am borderline now, put weight and more back on, feel tired all the time etc, but doctors say not low enough for tablets, i think it is just to save money my self. another point no one seems to have mentioned, if left untreated u can end up having a nervous breakdown. things can get that bad.

Hi all Well Hospital apt went well Consultant was very kind and listened to me !!!!!!!!!!!!! Asked loads of questions. She thinks all my thyroid levels are OK on the present dosage. Suggests 'normal ' eating, no extremes but to be aware and to increase my exercise levels as much as possible Checking blood tests taken today for hormone levels = menopause. More blood tests tomorrow after some tablets to check steroid levels as this is a possible but unlikely problem. Also having tests tomorrow for Thyroid, Diabetes and Arthritus. Back to hospital in 6 weeks for the results Think of me please as I will end up like a pincushion Regards To everyone I'll keep you upto date when I hear anything Linda :o)

Hi everyone Had 6 monthly check up yesterday, for diabeties and thyroid. Thyroid levels are in 'normal' range at mo - although the lower end - so still on 100mcg of thyroxine - have to go back for repeat blood test end July, for thyroid and diabeties check. Mind you I still feel tired and sometimes I want to stay in bed all day, although get to work. Work collegues - can't of don't seem to understand why sometimes I feel so tired. Men!!!! Diabeties wise - apart from the fact I'm not losing as much weight as I or the Docs are happy with, is fairly ok. just put me on 1 more tablet to be taken at lunch time, as well as the ones at Breakfast and evening. Trouble is, having underactive thyroid does not help with trrying to loose weight - which I need to do - to help with diabeties. its not like am eating the wrong type of foods either, then I would not mind so much. Take care all Liz
