Thanks Dan, it was a new bit to what I had read, so thanks. Seemingly the records have been moved to Preson for some obscure reason...oh and by the way the Wizard turned out lovely....and his Maw and Paw too X

I presume you've already googled it plenty of times, but it appears (only as a passing reference) in one of the stories I did on Friday: The Exploding Boiler The long frost of January 1893 was particularly unpleasant and was to become the cause of the tragic fatality of a Rock Ferry housewife. Twenty-three year old Sarah Bishop was the wife of Head schoolmaster Mr. J. Bishop, who taught on the Akbar, a reformatory school ship moored in the Mersey. On the afternoon of Thursday 5th, Mrs Bishop was busy with the housework at her home No. 52 Mersey Road. At about three o’clock, she began hanging some clothes up to dry on a line in the kitchen. It stretched across to the other side of the living room about ten feet up, in front of the fireplace. All of a sudden the whole house began to shudder, quickly followed by a terrific explosion. The blast caused the fireplace to blow out from the wall with great power, causing immense damage throughout the whole room. The might of the force rendered Mrs Bishop unconscious as beams of light poured over her body through the gaping hole which was now protruding out into the side alley. Fourteen year old Joseph Poole was in the parlour. He was Mr. Bishop’s attendant and upon hearing the explosion ran into the kitchen to see what had happened. The room was full and steam of smoke, and after only a brief search Joseph was forced to retreat to catch his breath. On composing himself again, the youngster returned to the enclosed scene of destruction and upon entering for a second time, Joseph could hear the faint groans of Mrs Bishop as she lay injured underneath the rubble. He gallantly began to remove the bricks, plaster and even the oven from on top of Sarah and heaved her out of the debris. With great care, the youth carried the insentient woman out into the safety of the parlour and placed her gently down on the sofa. He then set off out into the street calling for further help. He found Mr. Booth walking by, and at once called for him to help his master’s wife. Luckily the passing man had had experience working in the ambulance profession and was able to able to assist the wounded woman until a doctor could be sought. Not long afterwards Doctor Pearson and Doctor Robson arrived to treat the injured Mrs Bishop and they found her to be suffering from shock and a number of internal injuries. Through their assistance Mrs Bishop managed to recover consciousness but sadly died between nine and ten o’clock later that evening. On investigation it was discovered that the boiler, which lay battered in the corner of the kitchen, was found to contain several inches of ice and both pipes were frozen. The pressure caused by the icy blockage was undoubtedly the cause of the explosion that dreadful afternoon. An Inquest held at the Royal Standard Hotel before Mr. Churton returned a verdict of Accidental Death, and a total of four shillings and nine pence was collected for Joseph Poole in recognition of his brave and heroic efforts.
