Sadly, yes there are still plenty of people who use the term 'bastard' in its original context. Sadly, yes, it has happened to me a few times over the years that I have been one - 62 - There is still plenty of prejudice out there. It will probably still be there when your child is old enough to notice it - so maybe it is best to bite the bullet and get married. Marriage is one of the few remaining 'rites of passage' it doesn't have to be religious if you are not religious. There are plenty of beautiful ways and places of pledging love, or you can make it totally private for just you two - and little one - and go to the registry office with no-one else and get two witnesses who are strangers. Many people are put off by the thought of a huge expensive public display. It doesn't have to be that way, and could be a lot more meaningful often without. Even in this day and age, the right bit of paper smoothes many paths. |
