BORN IN 1874 HE ATTENDED THE ROYAL MILITARY ACADEMY AND HE DESCRIBED HIS GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT AS HIS 'WALK WITH DESTINY'. HIS POLITICAL CAREER STARTED IN 1900 WHEN HE BECAME MP FOR OLDHAM UNDER THE CONSERVATIVES (A SEAT THAT HE FAILED TO WIN BEFORE). IN 1906 HE MIGRATED TO THE LIBERALS,HE WAS ALSO AN ARBITRATOR WHO FOUGHT FOR PEACE AT THE BOER WAR. IN 1917 HE WAS APPOINTED LlOYD GEORGE'S MINISTER OF MUNITIONS AND WAS INVOLVED IN THE MASS PRODUCTION OF TANKS. FROM 1912-1921 HE ACTED AS SECRETARY OF STATE, IN 1924 HE BECAME CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER. HE WAS ALSO HATED BY MANY TRADE UNION MEMBERS AND SECTIONS OF THE WORKING CLASS AS HE WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN HELPING TO BREAK THE 1926 GENERAL STRIKE. HE EVENTUALLY LOST POWER IN 1945. HE BECAME PRIME MINISTER AGAIN AT THE AGE OF 77. WHO AM I??? |
