Somehow it's you and part of you, so no I don't mind at all. I don't know why it should but it does grate a bit when other people do it! LOL I can't stand being call hun especially by someone younger than myself (again I don't know why I should object) and if anyone calls me 'my love' I cringe. Soooo patronising and It makes me feel like some doddering old biddy - and I ain't there yet! A foible I know but if someone says 'bless you' directly to me that is absolutely fine but have anyone say 'bless her' about me and I see red. Doddering old biddy syndrome again! I suppose much of the difference is I can 'hear' you saying it - so I know the inflection and how it's meant - so keep going! LOL Mags xxx

I used Sweetie and Honey. If this annoys/upsets anyone please let me know and I won't call them it. Ultimately it is a term of endearment and meant in the nicest way! xx

Oh Pink there are probably a lot of really bad names you could call us so sweetie etc does not offend, in fact I'm the type that if someone calls me by endearing names it makes me warm and fuzzy. Luv Debs

Louise Report 28 Mar 2006 16:10

I can't speak for other people but I do hate it when I get called 'sweetie' as I find it patronising. I'm sure it's not meant like that (and I don't get called it often) but it's reminds me of when a teacher talks to you. But that may not be the reason other's hate it. I also hate being called babe by men in general if they aren't my partner. It's too personal. A good friend of men always calls me babe and I've had to say that I don't like it. It's better to say something that to continually be annoyed every time the person says it. But I don't think it would bother me if a woman friend called me 'babe'. Other than that I don't mind 'darling' or 'dear'. I'm talking in general though as I've never been addressed by any of those terms on the boards. Louise :-)
