Hi Debs, I,ve been on 21 mg for 4 weeks now and start on 14mg tomorrow. I,m using the 'Equate' patches, made my Novartis. It,s what they gave me when I was in the hospital last year and I think they work just as well as the more expensive Nicoderm. (This is my 4th attempt, lol). I,ll be on the 14 mg for 2 weeks and then 7mg for another 2 weeks. My doctor says that once I come off the patches, it won,t hurt to use the 4mg gum for those 'odd' cravings. Hopefully by then, a stick of Wrigleys will work just as well. lol. |

Hi All, Well done to all the non smokers and keep up the good work. James - I was the only smoker in the house or should i say on the porch/in the garage (dependant on weather). Carol in Rochester - I am about to go onto week 4 of 21 mg and think that I should do the whole course of 10 weeks, how many weeks have you done on them? Debs - How long does the nurse count before your an official non smoker? Still having weird dreams, wouldnt dare repeat them to anyone!! Sleep pattern isnt normal yet but getting there. Joined a great site for encouragement called stop smoking. Good luck all and again well done Debs x |

Hi James, Got your PM. I,m still going strong although I had a weak moment last week and had a couple of puffs. Like Debs, I,m still on the patches but about to go down to the 14mg ones. Having some really odd pains, kinda like indegestion. Maybe it,s my lungs getting back to normal or the exercises I,ve been doing. I,m too bloomin old for sit-ups. lol. Hope to be smoke free for that flight to Manchester in 10 weeks! |

4 more patches left & then I'll be at the 16 weeks mark! The smoking nurse last week told me I am now classed as an ex smoker officially! Can't believe it but really chuffed - with the £80 a month I'm saving, I've decorated the back bedroom and bought lots of new stuff to go in there! Also booked a holiday to Parga in September for a week! Only downside is I'm piling weight on! Debby |

Debs the time flies past over 20 days don't rush to come off the patches, hope you are now sleeping better now and soon you will be preaching to your husband about the smell he makes with his smoking...........out the backdoor with him!!!! Carol 3 months for you already if you look back on your early threads you will be amazed. James |

Day 18 - I feel so much better for not smoking, but I cant believe how easy it is (hope I havent spoken too soon), hubby says its because I wanted to stop and I have my mind set to do it.. But I have joined a quit smoking group online for support and reading their threads they say day 30 is a huge tempatation???? Carol I am sure you along with others can answer this for me, and I am so proud of you for hitting 12 weeks, cant wait for it to be my turn! AND where are the others who have just quit or about too?????? Debs x |

Good Morning All, Well today is day 17.. Thinking about them even less and less, this week is appearing to be easier than last week and about the same as week 1!! Still on the 21mg patch each day and have decided I am going to do the full 10 weeks on them before going it alone. But I know I wont go back to smoking.. Where are all the others who have packed in?? Good luck everyone and well done those who have quit the weed Debs x |

Hi Debs, OOOH You little tearway, smoking at 13, When you see young kids smoking today and you know the trouble they are going to have in years to come, and they say 'I can give it up just like that' yer, you think to yourself, pull the other leg it's got bells on it. But you would think with all the warnings kids get, they would not smoke but I suppose its a case 'I know better than you' It is not like in our younger days when the films had people smoking in them, now if you see someone smoking on TV it comes as a shock. Keep on the straight and narrow you are doing fine Get you your hubby and son to look through the threads and maybe they will get the hint that ex-smokers need all the encouragement they can get. All the best James |

Well done Debs and all. I think it is really important to get someone patting you on the back and saying how marvellous you are for quitting! Sorry have been offline for a few days so that is why I have not been on here egging you all on:-) But James is doing a great job:-) Happy Smoke Free Easter to one and all. You are just GREAT! James, Hubby thinks if he doesnt mention it, it helps, but sometimes you want them to say 'well done' I smoked about 15 a day for 23 yrs (and im only 36!!). I know they are proud of me. Just been to best buy and looked at the laptops - said only another 5 and a half months till you put your hand in your pocket, but what really keeps me going is not wanting to be addicted to something, I want to control things not something control me.. Well done 10 yrs!! Keep up the good work everyone.. and Happy Easter Debs x |

Telling it like it is. Smoked heavily for 45 years. Was up to 30 small cigars (inhaled) per day A nurse who should have known better having 3 cigars before arriving at work at 8 in the morning. Have not smoked for 2 years. Never been overweight before, can shift it the weight with diet and exercise but it always creeps back and makes me so very fed up. Was addicted to nicotine lozenges until one month ago. Want nicotine every morning when I wake and throughout every day. The purpose of writing this is to encourage anyone who has given up not to trust themselves with even a puff. Someone who smoked heavily rather than socially was a nicotine addict and just like any other addict - the addiction will be with them for life. You'll always be a smoker who just isn't going to have one today! That's why it is so tough and that is why it is so very commendable! Well done you all - and me too! Sylvie |
