Jeans Reunited Report 8 Apr 2006 21:14

hello sorry for butting in, but I disliked Charles when he said something like Whatever love is, whist being interviewed after his engagement to Diana. She should have run a mile then, and would probably still be alive today Claire

Charles couldn't have married Camilla years ago if he was trying to 'keep to the rules' and please everyone and I have no reason to doubt that was the case. I doubt that Charles has done anything other than try to do the right thing. Certainly he could have made better choices in some areas, but like I said before, he's just human like the rest of us, and hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I have to say that I have the upmost respect for the Queen, she does a b****y good job and is so professional. However, it could be said that her mothering skills leave a lot to be desired - 3 out of 4 married and then divorced - all but one of her Grand children come from broken homes.I suppose that it was her 'duty' to have children but I feel that they suffered due to her dedication to her destiny

No Felicity. I have lots of other reasons why I don't like Charles and don't think he is a fit King. Believe me, I really hope I am wrong but I fear for the future of the monarchy if he succeeds. If he loved Camilla that much, he could have married her years ago. He didn't because she wasn't a virgin and he was duty bound to marry a virgin with no past to come up and cause discomfort later. He found himself a virgin, married her, and went back to the love of his life. What a lovely story...................if you were not the poor innocent 19 year old he married. I also watched with horror his comments about the BBC journalist when he was skiing and doing a press conference with his boys. Quite amusing as it was only a journalist he was abusing, but what if he lapsed like that at an important international function..........doesn't bear thinking about

Just to add that basically although it produced 2 great kids Charles and Diana really shouldn't have got married and I think that could have saved a lot of hurt for everyone. They both had very different ideas on what they were getting into and I feel that they were both used by their families. Charles' behaviour when he was married to Diana was normal for his position but not for the modern times that he was living in. As Charles becoming King - at this rate the Queen will live forever. I feel that Charles has had a very difficult position waiting to be King all his life. William will more than likely be the next King due to everyone's ages.

I think that the only opinion to be drawn is that Charles will make a dreadful king because he does not have ESP and the knowledge that his phrase about a tampon will be bugged and made public knowledge. If he can't tell the future what kind of King will he make?!! (Only joking - but I think that's about as silly as any other judgement about that particular thing.) :-)

We only know what the press choose to tell us, personally I wish Charles and Camilla well because they appear to be genuinely happy and that is SO nice to see

Unknown Report 8 Apr 2006 20:53

Agreed Felicity . 100%. But it is out there now so I can't help but form an opinion partly based on that. Like I said before, I do concede that it wasn't said for pubication and that it was a private conversation originallly.

Felicity

Felicity Report 8 Apr 2006 20:48

Marie, I think the point is that the remark made by Charles was made in a private context and is no-one else's business. There is no indication as to whom the comment was made but it certainly wasn't to the public at large. As such it is pointless to give it any credence or even to make any judgements about it. Given that it was in a private conversation, I defy anyone to say that they have never said anything to anyone that would be cringe-making if anyone else heard about it. Charle's folly was only saying something over the telephone that was best kept to the bedroom, but who knows if his bed had a bugging device such is the temerity of the press. I wouldn't walk in the shoes of Royalty for anything.

Think they are a smashing couple and hope they become king and Queen. There have been many threads over Charles and Diana. None of us know the real truth, a lot of us just think we do. I remember the old days when we used to sing 'God save the king'/ Who knows? Happy days

Unknown Report 8 Apr 2006 20:40

I didn't make the remark about the Tampon, I was referring to something Charles himself said. I think it was crude and uncalled for too !!! (however will concede that it was supposed to be a private comment) I agree with you in that the past for many reasons was not a nice place to be and in lots of ways thank goodness it has changed. Mostly for the better. Let's not forget though, that Charles has to vow to be defender of the faith/faiths and in the eyes of the church which he will head (albeit as figurehead) he did not honour his vow in the eyes of god to remain faithful etc etc which he took during his wedding vows. Why would we believe he would take his coronation vows more seriously ? I agree anybody else could choose to break these vows and it wouldn't mean too much. But as somebody who needs to vow to defend the faith it counts for a lot more xx

I have my views on Charles and Camilla, but that aside, my gut feeling is that Charles won't become King. I don't know why; perhaps it's his age. But I just feel that William will become the next monarch. x

I loved Diana, thought she was great. But as said, they are all Human Edward and Wallace was years ago, It cannot be compared at all. At the same time there were backstreet abortions and single mothers were often put in nut houses or cruel institutions to have their illegitimate child. There was capital punishment and corporal punishment was given in schools. Time and life has moved on. If Charles and Camilla were ordinary members of the public, then not an eyelid would have been batted. If Diana had not died, then she most likely would have had a partner by now. Princess Anne was divorced, and is now happily married...no one mentions that. I also think the remark about the tampon is crude and uncalled for Elaine x
