Lee, the Peak Freans factory was in Rotherhithe.(perhaps there was more than one?) I was born 2 houses down from it. I may even have a piccy somewhere of it - Ill check it out. I got a lot of stuff from Southwark archives about the area - even photos of the 'playground' we had which was basically a bomb site with a few hardy weeds. My GGF was on the census 'commercial traveller in biscuits'!!

Tell you what Jackie, how often did you wear shoes in the summer? I always walk around now with no shoes on in the garden - we just didnt wear them unless we were 'going out'. I cant remember cutting our feet, though I can remember getting a few sharp stones in them! And we all used to sit on the front door step chatting. God, Im feeling really sad now. Ive got a house that my grandparents would have thought was a palace (though not as tidy), a drive full of cars, holidays, lots of grub but I am damn sure they were happier than we are.
