Not sure about Amiriri, cant find it on my maps. Some of the others I had never heard of, but they are on the maps. Didnt need to look up some. I know Awhitu well. In what was Franklin County when dad was county engineer. Now Franklin district, dont think they have an engineer. You are all doing well. How about mountains? Anybody know the Maori name for our tallest mountain beginning with A? It means cloud piercer. And there is another mountain nearby, not a Maori name. |

Well done Carol, and everybody else. Welcome to any newbies who I have not met before. Do you all have good atlases, or have you been googling, or do you have a NZ friend or rellie who is feeding info to you? We might move on to B at 0600 hrs GMT, when everybody might be thinking of getting up. I will be thinking of dinner then. |

Huia - Have to say I have never come across Amiriri either - Michelle |

Could she mean Atiamuri or Ahuriri perhaps? Some maps are not easy to read. Perhaps there was a crease in the page. |

By the way I can find four things beginning with Z - a mountain, a saddle, glacier and one other - Michelle |

Huia | Report | 7 May 2006 05:23 |
Ok Michelle we can include Z but I didnt see them on the index for my AA maps. Will have to find a better source. Racking my brains at present. Have travelled over much of NZ but admit I dont know everything. Only 99.99% (tongue in cheek). |

I've got a 2005 version of the The Complete Driver's Atlas to New Zealand (from Reader's Digest) here, what I can't see is anything that begins with letter X - Michelle |

Huia | Report | 7 May 2006 05:51 |
No, well I had planned to tell them to skip X when we came to it, or I was going to substitute it with a quiz or some such. |

Have you got a spider in the alarm? Damp? what do you mean? It has been a lovely sunny day here, at least when I have taken my eyes off this thing and looked out the window! Sun is just setting now. |

Hi Huia, as an ex resident of New Plymouth, I guess I ought to have a go at this, although I don't usually even look at these threads. I'm up early for me on my day off too, with the sun shining in the window. First B I can think of, off the top of my head; Bay of Plenty Vivienne xx |

Vivienne, were you brought up in NZ or was it just a visit? I am surprised you did not put the name of a 'ding-a-ling' place near NP. |

Hi Huia, No I was born here in UK, spent 6+yrs in NP & my sister & her family have been there since 1954. Sis still in NP, her son & family in Hamilton & daughter & family in Auckland. Do you mean Bell Block? I wasn't sure how provincial you wanted to go. There is a park in NP called Broadlands. Vivienne xx |

Nobody has mentioned the place named after animals. When that has been done you can move on to C if you wish. I am off to bed now, past 11pm. Good night, be good and if you cant be good be clever as the saying goes. |
