First Lou can I say thanks ever so much for that. It was fantastic! I think the person that you were in contact with was my maternal Grandad. He wasn't in any of the photos I sent, but his wife was the baby in the photo of the 3 girls. He was an ex-submariner and was always telling mucky jokes! LOL. And yes he did do magic tricks and the old paper bag routine. He used to work at the local mental hospital (as did his sister, half brother, daughter...my Mum, and me!) I have a vague recollection of there being some hoo-har at work and I will check with Mum. But I'm sure you can imagine, working in a mental hospital, you were always being accused of one thing or another! Grandad also used to work at the power station up at Pontefract and we only mentioned Pontefract cakes yesterday when we were talking about Heartbeat. He used to holiday up on the North Yorkshire Moors when my Mum was a kid. Then later on in life he had an old converted ambulance and used to take himself off up there for weeks on end!

McAnne or Christine James and WW1 - I feel he was wounded and received a medal in recognition for what he had done in battle, if he is yours - he would be on your paternal side of the family?
