This is an old one: Vicar leaning over the gate, talking to an old countryman. 'My word, what a beautiful garden! How wonderful to see what God and man can do together' Old Boy 'Yes, you shoulda seen it when he had it to himself' OC |

Alan Why do they need to knock on peoples doors though? Don't they realise that if you were so interested, you would have already found them yourself? Debby |

Jess I claim the unique distinction of being the only person in the Western Hemisphere to arrange an appointment for a DG salesman to call at my home, after an unsolicited call (I really really wanted DG) He did not turn up! OC |

disfellowshipped...- never heard of that! is that similar to telling the double glazing telephone sales people that are so eager to come and quote , that you have pending CCJ's............ ( a lie by the way!) That is quite an effective deterent- suddenly they remember theyare not going to be in your area at all!! |

Jess, I have found over the years that people like that are not so understanding of God's Will when he says NO to them! Just you finish your wall, I can see it from here... it's beautiful!! LOL Deanna X |

'What the Dickens' wrote: ' If this person was a Jehovah's Witness & out deliberately to 'witness', then please be assured that JW's are NOT Christians! They are a cult...' That is your view and I respect it but this is not the place to peddle bigotry. I AM NOT A JW but know several. If ever you want rid of them just tell them that you are 'disfellowshipped' that will make sure you are never bothered by them again as they are not allowed to speak to someone who has left the group. |

I'm not part of any religion and I certainly wouldn't want it preached at me whilst trying to build a wall (LOL at the thought of me building a wall) I have to say though that I have always found the JW to be lovely kind helpful people, I don't subscribe to their beliefs and they understand that and bring me the books anyway! Just wanted to say they are not all bad and I don't believe they are a cult! Brings to mind visions of the moonies! Julie xxx |

Jess. Good on you for sending the woman packing. Was it God's wish that a mother of 23 , after just giving birth to delightful twins, should die for the want of a transfusion, because of a belief that might turn out to be insignificant. Those twins are now about 30, wonder if they consider their Mum was right to refuse blood. I turn JW's away with the comment that they would have denied me a family if I had thought that way. My children both being affected cos positive and negative blood argued at that time. I know medicine has come a long way in 40 years and that they are now able to treat babes within the womb. Jess, I am so sorry that some thoughtless person , seemingly representing a bunch of others, has made you so cross. If this person was a Jehovah's Witness & out deliberately to 'witness', then please be assured that JW's are NOT Christians! They are a cult, with subtle surface similarities to Christianity, just similar enough to confuse people and draw them away from finding & exploring the true message of Jesus! For instance, JW's do not believe that Jesus is also God,a basic tenet of Christianity. Denise |

I don't personally have anything against JW's, but know that they can be annoying. I try to remember that although they seem to be trying to force their opinions down other peoples throats, in their minds they are simply trying to save us all. Please don't think that this one woman is a true representative of 'organised religion' - my Step Father is a retired Methodist Minister and both he and my Mother do a huge amount of good work for people from all walks of life. My Mother would never dream of saying something so insensitive and if you had the pleasure to meet her, you would find her to be an incredibly caring and considerate person. Kaye x |

NB I should add that I'm not knocking Christians in general, as obviously there are good and bad everywhere... I just find the contradictory and rigid beliefs a little strange sometimes. |

You should have told them to be a good Christian (are JW's Christian???) and help you build the wall. As you might guess, I'm not a churchgoer. Did go once to please hubby (that's another story but I've managed to convert him) and had all that 'God's will' bunkum thrown at me and how we should be like brothers and sisters to each other. When I met one of the speakers the next day in the High Street she totally ignored me even though I said Hello to her. If that's being Christian I can do without thank you. |

Hi Jess I read your main posting and had my reply all ready to add....then I read everyone else's replies and realised that Liz had said exactly what I was going to say! Please don't assume that this person is a good representative of either organised religion or the Christian faith. They probably mean well in their own little minds, but they are greatly mistaken. I was born into a churchgoing family and attended regularly myself until a few years ago (still searching for my spiritual home but haven't given up looking). I think that whilst it is good for Christians to gather together in corporate worship, Christianity is all about the person you are, or try to be. I only make my beliefs known when I'm asked, or on such a thread as this where we are all giving our own personal opinions. A kind word, being a good friend, going the extra mile for someone, caring; those are the things that make a true Christian, not someone who forces their misguided beliefs onto others. Mandy :) x |

Do you know what I read earlier today ? To despair is a sin. So God can't help you. Unless you aren't no longer despairing. Which is surely when you'd need him the most ? Found that amusing, don't know why. |

I love it when these people come to me, after about 5 minutes they cannot get away fast enough, Jehovah,s Witnesses bypass my house because i don't let them go if they knock on my door because i question every single thing they say i also put myself between them and the gate so they cannot get away, I do not believe in any religion.
