Hi Rod what I said about the smokey atmosthpere was a personal thing, I found it difficult to talk and had to keep sipping my lemonade to make conversation. People smoke that is their right, as Carol said 7 out of 12 about 60% of the people smoked at the meeting so I cannot complain. James

Hi Ang Some suggestions Make sure you have finished the last cigarette, because if you have any then it will be ten times harder. A lot of smoking is habit the hand goes to the pocket where the cigarrettes are before the brain knows about it Move ashtrays out of sight Tell everyone you are quiting for health reasons or on doctors orders Their is always the stupid people who think it is funny to try and tempt you because they do not have the will power to stop themselfs Use the patches, I found that buying the first lot of patches was the hardest because it was a week cigarette money Get a packet of stickers and put one on a calender for each day you have not smoked Start a Building Society Account and put the money you would have spent on fags into it and watch it build up and think of the holiday you will be taking with it. Keep posting on the thread, it is not easy getting out of the grip of Nic O Tine, he is always out there to try and trip you up. Try to keep out of smokey areas. All the best it can be done James

Hi Ang Thank you, I have to say I love not smoking.. Ok first of all you really must want to do it otherwise you will go back to them (this is how I started again after trying last year - dont think I was ready). Make sure you have your patches at the ready a book or x stitch (if you do it) to keep your fingers busy. And of course us for support lol If your ready then just stop... either start tomorrow or start now.. the longer you smoke the more you will enjoy it.. Terrible isnt it? Anyway we are here if you need us and good luck. Think of the benefits of not smoking... Debs xx

Well done Debs! 4 months is a real lanmark. James , I understand about the smokey atmosphere. Now the question is how am I going to get back on the 'non-smoking' wagon. I had planned to re-start today but I had a really bad day yesterday so put it off . Any suggestions welcome! Ang

Morning James How you honey? Well I have passed the 4 month mark (last Tue) with ease, just love being a non smoker!! I went out on Tue night and had to leave hubby and his friends in the bar and make my way home as I could not cope with the smell. I kept thinking that I struggled to quit and I will be damned if someone else was going to blow smoke in my lungs.. I did see the photos and I do have to say you can see the smoke, isnt it a shame when that happens.. Off of my soapbox now... Off for my walk as I feel so much healthier, skin looks the best ever and I am a non smoker. Debs x

Hi All went to Carol's Nottingham meet, all smoked there, making it difficult for me to talk because of the smoke in the air. No wonder Carol had problems trying to give up James

James Report 31 Jul 2006 22:13

Hi all Well done to Debs after the stressfull time with your brother's family Joy you are doing so well thank you again for the thread. Carol Ang and Joanne It only takes one fag for Nic O tine to grab a hold of your body again, but you have proved that you can beat the drug addiction and next time you will be more prepared to fight against it, Think of the smell, the breathless you experienced and how much better your body felt when you stopped smoking and your sense of smell came back. I could not have done it without the help of the patches, it is like if I buy a block of icecream I cannot resist it until I have eaten the whole bar, so I try not to buy it. It is more difficult if your partner still smokes, because the temptation is around in the form of cigarettes But you have done before and can do it again, try to get a time when you are not stressed before trying again. All the best James

Carol Good on you for telling - though of course I knew coz you had already told me. You will do it when the time is right that obviously isnt now.. Still cant wait to meet you next year when we move back. Looking forward to having a drink or 2. xx April 1 st last year I tried and succeeded for 3 weeks and then went back to it... But April 1st 10pm 2006 I quit for good, it will be 4 months at 10pm on Tuesday and I can honestly tell you I wouldnt touch another. My reasons for not doing it will always keep me a non smoker. Ang, You tried and had a stressful time again the same as to you as Carol when your ready you will. Hello All Conffesion time, (holds head down in shame)....Im really sorry guys ive let you all down......Even after so long, that nicotine devil has got me again...To be honest with you, the wanting a ciggie never went, hence so much gum chewing.. All it took was something stupid and without thinking i lit a ciggie up.... I feel so bad for letting everyone down, but i had to conffess as couldnt let you all going on praising, when i dont deserve it...Mind ive still managed to hide the fact from my son and my dad, apart from my OH knowing you all do now.. May be when time is right i will try again.....I will still pop on to see how you all are doing..Better than me:((((((( SORRY GUYS:((((((((((( Carol xxxxx
